when drinking coffee near a laptop, don't add sugar to it. I spilled about 5 drops of coffee on mine this morning and now about half of the keys don't work. no pattern to which work or don't.

I phoned a tech and the first question was "Cream or sugar?" LOL. Apparently sugar can easily screw up your KB. I can hook up another KB temporarily, but I use this now-seemingly-worthless-piece-of-sh!t for work everyday.

So remember...

Just say
"I'd like my (*&%(*$ &%@$ &%$@ #^&$ coffee BLACK!!!"

Sorry. Done now! Anyone with any ideas, please let me know.

(NOTE: Sarcasm would NOT be a good plan right about now!)

Oh, Grant, poor thing. Mine had cream in it, but no sugar - and what a mess it was. (Also red wine at one time., though not on the kb. When they came to repair the CPU the wine had dried on the inside like gore... brrr)

BUT: I unplugged the kb, unscrewed the back so as I could get to lift the front frame. Turned out I had keys that sat on a sort of plastic sheet.
Then I wriggled off all the keys one at the time and washed them gently in soapy water, then dried them.
Then checked the protective sheet and dabbed it as well as I could.
Then put the keys back on.

Remember: takle notes where they came off from...

Obviously you can't do this with just any kb; had another one spoiled on me and there the keys were held in place by plastic thingamajiggs. I threw it out and am now working on an old keyboard with nice chunky keys.

So maybe: buy another kb... sorry

Get thee to an electronics store. Not a fancy one, one that sells parts and wires.
Buy a big spraycan of "contact cleaner" and a can of air.
Spray the keyboard liberally. Q-tip dry.
Repeat first spray and follow with major air spray.

But Grant-
Think of this- while you're waiting for your keyboard to dry out, you could hop on the Greyhound, cruise down to San Diego, thaw out & chill out with a bunch of clusterbuds- sounds like a win-win to me! Oh, and pick up Linda Howell as you go thru CA!

If I did, I'd probably keep heading south. Panama sounds pretty good this time of year.
