Title: Newbie arrival Post by ch_nic on Feb 26th, 2003, 5:51pm So happy to have found this board so we can learn and support each other. I'm from Hong Kong originally, got my BS degree in Wisconsin and now staying for work. My first CH experience was from highschool in HK I think. At that time I didn't know if others' headaches were that painful and it didn't last for too long so I rested my case. Next was before my BS graduation, I couldn't bear it and went to see a doctor at school. She concluded that it was CH and we tried Imitrex and Indomethacin but with no luck. Next we used Prednison for 40mg (5 dayS), 30mg (5 days), 20mg (4 days) 15mg (3 days) 10mg (2 days) 5mg (2 days) and it worked. Now I got this CH since last Wed, I had 4 in the first 48 hours and I skipped work coz of that. Now I'm consulting doctor and he recommended me a different schedule 40 (2 dayS) 30 (2 days) 20 (2 days) 10 (2 days) but once I tapered it down to 30mg I got one again, so I kept my 30mg per day till now, hoping to convince him to keep me on Pred. for a longer time. One time, I find running hot water through my hands are pretty helpful. Coz you got distracted with the hands' sensors from the head. My girlfriend taught me this and it's not a bad idea, just be careful not to burn your hands. Anyways~~ GREETINGS everybody! Oh, my name is nic <added 2/27/03> |

Anyway, I'm the one who posts the circulatory technique and the water over the hands makes some sense but I'd recommmend cool water. Just an idea. Good luck and you'll find lots of good ideas here. Title: Re: Newbie arrival Post by Mark C on Feb 27th, 2003, 1:47am Welcome aboard ch_nic, Sorry you need to be here....glad you are! I have taken large doses of steroids in my fights with the beast and it will work for me or a short while, but I breakthrough as soon as the dose tapers. I have rendered them to the "seldom used" shelf in the medicine cabinet. They also caused me to be EXTREMLY IRRAITABLE.....something no around thought was a good idea. Imirtex injection is my drug of choice right now. Many use oxygen with great sucess....I look foward to trying it my next attack ::) PFDAN's Mark |

Title: Re: Newbie arrival Post by ch_nic on Feb 27th, 2003, 9:16am So far, nothing worked for me as my doctor suggested me those two I mentioned about. I consider myself as a pain endurer, but couldn't fight CH as I wanted to. I saw the CH survey and saw the results by people who participated. But sad to find that it seems there's "Nothing" out there to stop it right away except injection. I probably won't go for injection as my experience tells me that my CH usually last for 2 weeks or 3. Thanks for support! on 02/26/03 at 18:14:25, domm wrote:

Title: Re: Newbie arrival Post by ch_nic on Feb 27th, 2003, 9:19am O2 you mean Oxygen? I haven't tried and I don't know how much it costs. But carrying that tank around doesn't sound like fun at all. My CHs come usually around 2 or 3am. Right now it made me stay awake after work even though I wanted to take a short nap or something, afraid that it'll attack me when I'm asleep. :( But I think I can take it for a little longer as it's already been a week. 4 in the first 48 hours, and only 2 in the next 5 days. The frequency is down at a pretty good rate. Thanks for support too! on 02/26/03 at 18:17:11, suzy617 wrote:

Title: Re: Newbie arrival Post by ch_nic on Feb 27th, 2003, 9:21am Hi~~ doctor prescribed me with Imitrex pills back then. She didn't try other stuff as I complained that they didn't work and went on with something else. on 02/26/03 at 18:45:42, cbolony wrote:

Title: Re: Newbie arrival Post by ch_nic on Feb 27th, 2003, 9:23am Thanks Lori. I love this site a lot because I know I'm talking to some people who knows what kind of pain/suffering I'm talking about and I can be more educated and prepared without 'surprises' (knock wood). :) nic on 02/26/03 at 22:02:40, Lori wrote:

Title: Re: Newbie arrival Post by ch_nic on Feb 27th, 2003, 9:28am Thanks Charlie. I know next time I'd try both hot and cold water, whatever helps me, to sooth my pain. I have a question though, did any of you have any problems or acnes when CH first started? I do get acnes from time to time, and quite a lot in highschool. I find that acnes that grow in the area of eyebrows, T-area (area between eyebrows) kind of hurt like the pain of CHs. Maybe I'm wrong but when I touch them, the pain feels like it partially. Now my acnes are in control. When my CH started a week ago, I had an acne near my eyebrows. Thus made me wonder... ??? on 02/27/03 at 00:21:14, Charlie wrote:

Title: Re: Newbie arrival Post by ch_nic on Feb 27th, 2003, 9:30am Thanks Mark! Prednizone seems to be my savior so far. As I find reduction in the frequency during the week. I don't know what will happen if I reduce the dosage but I don't think I want to do that without another week of mild (30mg) dosage. I'll talk to my doctor in an hour and find out. nic on 02/27/03 at 01:47:12, Mark C wrote:

Title: Re: Newbie arrival Post by Charlie on Feb 28th, 2003, 4:41am Yes. I have some skin trouble but I have a good doctor for it. I have epilepsy as well which is the likely cause. Many epileptics have some skin problems. A lot of us have a form of seborrhea. Turns out that Differin cream works wonders. Great stuff! In any case, it's most likely my skin trouble is related to my seizures. Take care and try some O2. Lots of help with it here. Charlie |
