Title: Maxalt mlt 10mg Post by scrumpies on Feb 25th, 2003, 12:00pm I had an appointment with my DR. yesterday and she put me on Maxalt MLT 10mg. This is a quick dissolve tablet. Take it when an attack wakes you up at night or if you are like me..strikes during the day as well. OH MY GOD!!!!!!!! This knocked it out in less than 10 minutes. I was told in some it could take up to an hr. This is a gods sent. The down side is the insurance companies will only issue 6 pills every 30 days. thats sux! they are very expensive as they cost $110 for 6 pills. The doc presrcibed 30 for me to get me to the end of my cycle. But the insurance co. said nope only six. I have 4 left. I am terrified of using the last 4 because there is no more after that. The up side is that there are no rebound headaches so I only had one yesterday. wonder if I can get these in Canada. Or if Gods on my side..maybe 4 will be enough. You can bet I will get 6 more next month even if I dont need them just to keep handy. Lisa |

Title: Re: Maxalt mlt 10mg Post by cbolony on Feb 25th, 2003, 12:17pm Lisa tell your doctor to call your insurance company and tell them you need more maxalt because of your ch. Some insurance companys will give you more then the limit you are getting now.Make sure you get the 6 maxalt every month if you need them or not. |

Title: Re: Maxalt mlt 10mg Post by JDH on Feb 25th, 2003, 12:37pm Lisa, Ever try oxygen as an abortive? It's cheaper than most drugs prescribed and there's no side effects. It might be worth asking your Dr about it. PFDAN's to you. Jim |

Title: Re: Maxalt mlt 10mg Post by cootie on Feb 25th, 2003, 12:44pm Yeah Lisa...have yer doc call your insurence co's physicians hotline or special number they use and explain why you need more then 6 pills a month. It worked for us to get 27 per script and they pay most of it.....but....the doc had to call every 30 days and explain all over again. We have to start all over agin now with all this crap finding a new doc and have different insurence now also so not sure we'll get this deal again.....but it may work for you ! Pam |

Title: Re: Maxalt mlt 10mg Post by Hank on Feb 25th, 2003, 5:02pm One more vote for O2. It really aborts quickly for me....when I can get to it. That's the trick, having it everywhere, home, work, car, etc. I've had two CH this afternoon at work. Its hard to get anything done when you are on one end of the complex and the tank is on the other. I'm going to see if my neuro will authorize a trial with this med. It sure would be nice to just reach into my pocket where ever I am for a dose of short order relief. Thanks for posting this. |

Title: Re: Maxalt mlt 10mg Post by Tim_w on Feb 26th, 2003, 5:51pm Lisa I have taken Maxalt tablets for about 3 years now. I take the tab not mlt. The problem is they are Labled for migraines not clusters. They think 3or4 a month , I have that many before breakfast! Mine are labled up to3 a day no more than 6 aweek. I get mine by mail 3months at a time, all they want to send is 36 pills for 3 months. I got the Doc to write the Ins company a Letter telling them why I need more than 36 pills. now I get 72 pills for 3 months. About $1300 dollars worth for $18.00 I also take 720 mg of Verapamil aday If your doc will not work with you get one that will ! STOCK UP!! wishing you pfdan Tim_w ;) |

Title: Re: Maxalt mlt 10mg Post by jmorgan52 on Feb 27th, 2003, 7:14am I tried Maxalt mlt and it did nothing for me unfortunately, but I am so glad it works quickly for you. Only the Imigran/Imitrex injection stops the pain for me. As with the Imitrex Tip - has anyone tried breaking the Maxalt in half and seeing if it still works for them to extend the meds? John |

I am a firm believer in samples...from both Doctors....friends' Doctors.....always ask. Mine hands them out pretty good too. Hell my general hands me a couple of Imitrex shots about every visit now. As far as Insurance goes...make some noise. My Neuro wrote me a letter of 'Medical Necessity" to my insurance company. It worked....I get them filled as often as I can to stock up! I love a full medicine chest! PFDAN's Mark |

Title: Re: Maxalt mlt 10mg Post by NotH20 on Feb 27th, 2003, 8:29am John, I haven't tried splitting the Maxalt in half, but I did try halfing 100 mgs of Imitrex...did nothing for me. Was hoping to extend my "supply" but I figured it wasn't worth the extended pain. Mia |
