Title: Message from a newbie
Post by Benny on Feb 22nd, 2003, 9:19am
I just found this site yesterday. This is my first post and I thank all of you for the chance to talk about our illness. I have been diagnosed with rebound headaches (something I have apparently induced upon myself through the over-use of OTC pain meds over the years). I have read about the differences between clusters and rebound and I don't want to take up any of ya'lls time if you don't think you have any advice for me. I couldn't find any forums specifically for rebounds so I joined this one. I have had rebounds for over 23 years and finally found a specialist that thinks he can help me. Any other advice from ya'll would be greatly appreciated.
                                                     thanks
                                                     Benny

Though most of us frown on people posting here that do not have or support Cluster headaches (Me) we will always help point you in the right direction.

Tell us what your headaches are like, how bad, length and any other BS that goes along with them. We can only help if you give us info.

that was very nice jonny... ya are always surprisin me lately...
If they are true rebound headaches... what are you taking the meds for that are causing them... Rebounds are usually caused by OTC meds and some barbituates and pain relievers that are prescribed too... Seems to me you should try going off the meds or try a different type... I would still take the Cluster Quiz to rule out any thing that the doc is missing... Good luck... Ree

Ah, it's all in the choice of words; and who said words don't make a difference? Tis amazing how it is to care when simple honest statements are expressed as opposed to the convoluted pronouncements ( what ever the hell that means) ;D

jonny, it seems like I have one headache all the time. Tylenol makes it go away for approx 4-5 hrs then it returns. The h/a specialist said that I wouldn't be able to stand going cold turkey. I am scheduled for a treatment lasting 5 days in the hospital with a drug called DHE-45 being administered on a regular basis all week. The doc claims an 80% sucess rate. I am stoked....I haven't been able to sleep for more than 4-5 hrs at a time for so long I can't remember. I can't take any aspirin based meds because all the years of over-use has given me stomach trouble. The h/a are in a band above both eyes and even when its not hurting I know it's still there...like a presence or something.

Even though your attacks aren't clusters, I had something hit me for several days like this years ago. The pain never approached anything close to a cluster, but it wouldn't let up. It lasted just over two days and knocked me flat.  Strange, and may have been a sinus attack from hell.

Maybe someone here can help. I've not had rebounds but I'm glad you're getting some help.

Good luck.

Charlie
