Title: Prescription for 99.9% of CH sufferers !! Post by marty on Feb 19th, 2003, 6:38am Hi Y'all I am sitting here with a prescription from a Doctor in El Cajon CA.. This is what it says: Headache Cocktail Excedrin Migrain 4 tabs + 2 Midrin at start of headache or 4 Alieve + 2 Midrin + Caffeine Beverage This was for clusters headaches and he told me that during his 20 years of practise, this combination works 99.9% of the time to bring total relief to clusters :-/ And yes.. the prescription is signed.. By the way.. this is the same Dr that referred Jill to a new Neuro instead of the pain clinic - when I asked him to correct this, he told me that a Neuro and a pain clinic is the same thing :o Marty Ps. We'll have to keep him as a GP since it is a requirement by Tri Care.. |

Title: Re: Prescription for 99.9% of CH sufferers !! Post by suzy617 on Feb 19th, 2003, 6:50am Marty, I never heard of Midrin before but just looked it up. Each red capsule with pink band contains Isometheptene Mucate USP, 65 mg.; Dichioraiphenazone USP, 100 mg.; and Acetaminophen USP, 325 mg On top of that he prescribes all that alieve. ::) Seems to be that would be a killer on your stomach. How many patients has he treated for CH by the way? Maybe 2?? Yikes....... suzy |

Title: Re: Prescription for 99.9% of CH sufferers !! Post by catlind on Feb 19th, 2003, 8:02am No you don't Marty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Call Tricare and request a different primary care manager. If they tell you no, it is your RIGHT under the healthcare act for the military to request COMPETENT physicians. My PCM just got deployed and so did pretty much the entire 10th combat support hospital, so I was told by the patient representative that I could get an OUTSIDE provider if I went and did the paper work right. The hell with the neuro's there, I still STRONGLY recommend that you get a referral to walter reed ASAP. They can't deny you that and if they try call the patient rep, involve a commander or call Walter Reed directly. I'd still be messing around with incompetent neuros if I hadn't gone the walter reed route. I've been at battle with tricare for over 3 years now, believe me you can work around their system if you just know how. Don't take that shit, get a different PCM and get Jill to Walter Reed. As for that head ache cocktail, that's for rebound headaches, and doesn't work for shit for clusters, btdt. Cat Call me anytime you want some help or need some info on how to beat the system and tryandgetcare errrrr... tricare. 315-493-7003 |

Title: Re: Prescription for 99.9% of CH sufferers !! Post by Karla on Feb 19th, 2003, 8:04am Midrin also called duradrin(sp?) is one of the first medicines my neuro had me try for ch to abort the ha. It did nothing for me. My son takes it for his migraines and clusters and it works for him. So there is some hope it may work. The excedrin and cafeine may help also. Probably it wont tho. I went to the ha clinic/pain clinic the dr I saw there was a neruo. So Jill is being refered to the correct place. It was this neuro that had me try a couple of meds my reg. neuro and I hadn't thought to try. It was also this neuro who put me on methadone after all options had been exhausted and I have been pain free for 5 months now. So hang in there and keep the faith. |

Title: Re: Prescription for 99.9% of CH sufferers !! Post by marty on Feb 19th, 2003, 9:22am I just thought that it was funny.. Catlind: We do have a very good Neuro at UCSD that she is to see on the 27th. We just keep this GP because it is required that she has one in order to get the referral to the Neuro - I think that this Dr may be good with colds adn runny noses ;D And we will get the pain clinic set up today. Karla: Here it seem to be a little bit different since the pain clinic is a special place that is run by Anesteciologists (how do you spell that anyway..) researchers and others that only deal with the pain - not with the cause of the pain. It would be great with a Neuro there but I have a feeling that he/she would not like patients on heavy pain killers when trying new medication combinations. Brain_cramps: Except for the bong hits.. when's the party? ;D Marty |

Title: Re: Prescription for 99.9% of CH sufferers !! Post by RetUSN on Feb 19th, 2003, 9:41am Catlind, Jill has already been to Walter Reed and she didn't luck out with the right neuro. The GP she is using in San Diego is not very good, but I have to agree with Marty, he is a link for the referrals. Once she sees the neuro at UCSD he can extend the visits and she won't have to deal with him anylonger. Barb and I both have talked to Walter Reed and to Balboa and they all agree she is in the right place for help. Tricare has helped her in San Diego and she and Marty have a good relationship with them. They have gone out of their way for them and even went has far as fixing the referral her GP screwed up. As much as I dislike Tricare they have been a big help for both Jill and Marty. I dealt with Tricare here on the east coast with Jill before and they messed everything up. UCSD is a highly recommended pain clinic. As much as my wife and I want Jill here we are very happy with the way things are progressing compared to what they were doing for her on the east coast. Marty, We are in constant contact so you already know how we feel. Keep up the good work. I'll be back to San Diego after my work trips. Cookies are on the way. Ralph |
