Title: Re: Got snow? Post by oringkid on Feb 18th, 2003, 4:22pm here's a question. Do you at least know what is wrong with your back?? I don't!! I have had chronic lower back pain for about 3 years and it is getting worse! I cannot even go shopping without terrible pain! Standing for any amount of time is really bad. Course none of this started until I quit ballet and started a desk/computer job. (course I don't have that job any more but still am on the computer alot!) My Dad and brother live in VA, they didn't get the snow you got but they got ice! Ice is a pain as you more likely as not get the power outages. Ok, get your neighbor (lol) to use that blow dryer for you! ;D Then you get a clear walk and a show! LOL Sher |

Title: Re: Got snow? Post by jonny on Feb 18th, 2003, 4:27pm 5 Buldging discs (L1 thru L5) which press against nerves which causes sciatica (White hot lightining pain shooting down the leg) Get an MRI on your back, Kid.....Fast!!!! .............................jonny |
||
Title: Re: Got snow? Post by oringkid on Feb 18th, 2003, 4:37pm My husband had surgery for his back (L5) in 1989. I haven't had the sciatic pain in the leg, but also have nerve pain in my upper back/lower neck. Probably a C something hehehe. That is much like sciatica (sp?) in that it is nerve pain that is caused by something screwed up in the spine but you feel burning pain in your shoulder/arm/hand...........got that too! That I am pretty sure is mostly from using the computer. The lower back pain does not involve my leg though (thank goodness) and I know what nerve pain feels like! LOL This pain is localized (probably L5 or below) but does not involve the sciatic nerve. Hurts the most when changing positions. You're right though....I need to get a check on it.....but....no insurance means no mri! My husbands new job has all the insurance......but....he doesn't get it until he has been with the company for a year! Sher |

Title: Re: Got snow? Post by jonny on Feb 18th, 2003, 4:54pm Getting a cluster while the sciatica is in full swing is like an amusement ride from hell. Double the fun ;D ......................jonny |

Title: Re: Got snow? Post by jmorgan52 on Feb 19th, 2003, 8:37am Hey Jonny I saw a tv program the other night on discovery channel about some new back treatment they are doing in the UK as an alternative to spinal fusion. They push a thin tube into the disc and then insert a wire into the tube with a loop/coil at the end. They watch with xray or something until the wire is coiled up in the disc and then apply heat for about 20 mins. The disc shrinks in diameter and fattens up a lot. The nerve endings in the disc walls are cauterised too. They showed a women who had been in so much pain she was unable to walk without crutches for several years. A couple of days later she was on her feet with no long recovery period. John |

Title: Re: Got snow? Post by Hound_Dogg on Feb 19th, 2003, 10:37am That sounds like a plan...I've been searching for what you saw on the Discovery channel, but als I can't find anything. My wife has S-4 through L-1 completely blown by Failed Surgeries. Has tried Spinal Cord Stimulator. Which was a waste of time. If anyone knows a link to what JP was talking about, please let me know. Title: Re: Got snow? Post by TomM on Feb 19th, 2003, 11:19am Back to our regularly scheduled program... Snow, you axe?? ??? fukenah! ;D Thank God, Corona, or whomever you pray too, for my neighbor's blower because we got about 24" in Bowie, MD. I couldn't get out of bed on Sunday becuse the beast was killing me but Ray called around 3:30 PM and said to get my ass out there or we'll never get the driveway clean. Guess he forgot about my Ford Expo...the big tan one in drive that won't fit into the garage becasue the wife's Miata is on one side and the beer fridge, freezer, adirandak chairs, and TV on the other side. Did Ray's and my drive on Sunday then on Monday did 3 others along with mine. I'm not talking a one car drive, either; holds 4-6 depending on how tight you pack them. My back, shoulders, chest, forearms hurt but nothing like my head! G.D. beast is kicking and the sun glaring off the snow does not help. 8) None the less, I love this weather. Hey Kid--sorry about your back. Have you tried the VA?? :-[ TomM |

Title: Re: Got snow? Post by NotH20 on Feb 20th, 2003, 8:17am I'm so jealous Jonny! :'( Here in Georgia we hardly ever get any snow and when we do get some sort of accumulation it's only ice!!! I'm not sure I'd like the entire northern winter season day after day....but a good heavy snow down here would be wonderful once every 5 years :) If that's a hot tub on the back I'd start there with the snow removal instead of the walkway.......oh yeah - now your talkin' Mia |

Title: Re: Got snow? Post by catlind on Feb 22nd, 2003, 7:52am Here in Upstate we still have a solid 7 feet on the banks and a solid layered hard as ice 3 feet on the ground from prior storms. Ice storm today. I hate this place >:( Of course, the difference is, in Upstate NY, 2 feet of snow is a minor annoyance, and we have the equipment to handle it. Nothing like watching the snoweating machines. I gotta try and get a pic of one. These great big bull dozer snow blower type thingies that run along the sides of the road with a dump truck behind them eating the banks back so you can see to turn the corner. I wanna go to where it's 80 degrees. At least we had a heat wave last week. 30's all week long YAY! Back to sub zeros this week though *sigh* I feel your pain to everyone buried on the president's day storm. Cat |
