Title: Re: anxiety meds and clusters? Post by Bob_Johnson on Feb 16th, 2003, 9:51am No direct impact on the cluster, sorry. But, if you are high levels of anxiety surrounding an attack, you could make a case for using one of these meds to help bring about some subjective comfort. If you don't have any experience with them, might ask your doc for a sample dose and give it a try. Just don't count on it being an abortive effect akin to Imitrex, etc. |

Title: Re: anxiety meds and clusters? Post by eyes_afire on Feb 16th, 2003, 11:37am Hi Hempgrl. Hopefully your painfree roll continues. Zoloft is not an anxiety med, it is an anti-depressant. It acts mainly upon serotonin. I've tried Zoloft, Serzone, Paxil, Trazdone, and Pamelor. None of those anti-depressants had any effect on my CH. I've never tried anti-anxiety meds, I reckon they'd probably make me way too sleepy. .... rediscovering water and chasing shadows in the snow.... |

Title: Re: anxiety meds and clusters? Post by Riccardo on Feb 16th, 2003, 1:16pm Ciao Hempgrl, Antidepressants act on the serotonil levels. Serotonin is that thing that (also) makes you happy when in the mood..... Tricyclics antidepressants are used from 20 years to lessenting the cluster pain. (to be honest, with poor results. Paxil ....ehm Eyes... we are on opposite sides here.... have had destroyed completely the cycle in 4 Italian patients. (...me too.... but, honestly, it was a "private" try; there is not still clinical evidence for this) But, in any case, antidepressants cannot CAUSE clusters. Being all different, may be that will happen a case in which they cause them, but the probability is the same for the Dr Pepper or a tin foil cap during the night... ;D ;D ;D Ciao, and happy for the remission |

Title: Re: anxiety meds and clusters? Post by Karla on Feb 16th, 2003, 4:07pm Eyes some antidepressents are used to treat anxiety as well as depression. Zoloft is one of them. Paxil and effexor are a couple more. I take effexor and chlonodine for anxiety. I think anticipation of haveing a cluster causes my anxiety and makes it worse. I don't think the anxiety causes the cluster. Have a honkeneh good day. |
