Title: Prednisone
Post by totka on Feb 10th, 2003, 3:26pm
My Solu-Medrol (similar to your Prednisone) treatment finished yesterday. I was totally pain free for two weeks. But my fuckin' bastard beast knocked at my head at the usual 1.30 am: DO YOU FEEL ME? I'M STILL HERE!
I'm fed up and my beast guffaw at Isoptin, Baclofen, Convulex and Medrol.
Fortunately Imigran works perfectly. :-/

It's all.

Totka - sorry that you are doing the dreaded dance again.  Usually when I get to 10 mgs or below on Prednisone I start getting hit again....if you made it to the end of your daper down period you're pretty lucky.

Keep the faith - I agree with TomM - tomorrow is another day....

Thanks Verndy,

I have thought my back is simply spotty. Anyway these are shingles, herpes, psoriasis ... it's an another good news. I have about all side effects now.
Do you know what's the treatment of psoriasis? Prednisone cream! Take a hair of the dog that bit you. It's funny isn't it?

I've done the prednisone bullshit the last three cycles always hoping that "this" time it will make a difference. As soon as I taper lower than 40 mg then I get hit with CH. Plus I don't know about you but the prednisone makes you feel horrible and bloated and you have to pee all the time.

You didn't mention O2. I swear by O2...it aborts most attacks if you catch it at the beginning, I use it for bad shadows too.

Wishing you PFDAN
K.

Thanks to Medrol I have a huge heartburn and I'm always hungry. (It's 3.44 am now and I'm eating bananas and some cookie :P)
My threatment started at 500 mg/day decreasing to 0 for two weeks.  It's the common therapy for CHs.

I have been using Prednisone for about 6 years now and have made the decision to NEVER use it again. It only provides temporary relief for up to 5 days and then stops working for a couple of weeks and you feel so dopey on it. I am now almost convinced it may extend the CH cycle by several weeks.

It is no help to me.

I’m sorry Totka that the Prednisone is not good. :'(
I can not help you, because I have never tried this med.

Keep well and best wishes to you,

Totka,

I have psoriasis, and while the medications are mostly steroid meds, you can get some that aren't (Dovonex is one) but the best way to treat psoriasis is sun.

If you can't lay out in the sun, go to a tanning salon.

Hi Totka...Cat's right  a good treatment for psorasis is the sun...you could also try Bergamot Oil...a few drops in water and used as a compress make sure the oil you purchase is 100% pure oil, but do not use the oil neat.

Stress is a common cause of this condition, but unfortunatly because a lot of you are on high doses of medication, this can also be a side effect. :-/

Hope this helps....wishing you PFDAN's

Cathy :)

Let's not throw the baby out with the bathwater here, folks (God, what a horrible expression!)

Psoriasis is a common affliction among clusterheads, on or off prednisone.  It's also a symptom of a candida albicans overgrowth but that's a whole other discussion.

We compared notes here a few years ago and there were lots of folks with this problem.  I'm not saying pred CAN'T cause it as well, I'm just saying it's ONLY coming from the pred.

Thanks for the sun bath proposal but over here is winter (-10 °C and 50 cm snow). Chilblain is better than psoriasis? I'd better have a solarium-cure.  8)

I have mixed feelings about predisone.
I took prednisone once a number of years ago.  It was about 10 days into my cycle.  I can't remember the dosage but I think it was about a 5 day treatment.
It worked -- pain went away and the CH's didn't return, but LORDY did it make me feel whacked out and loopy!  I felt totally out of control inside.
I've never used it since -- found some meds that I like much better.  Also heard the horror stories about rebound, etc.

So, I guess I'm not one to dismiss it altogether, but I would definately recommend caution.

My 2 cents.

Regards to all and PFDAN.

Hmmm interesting, I wasn't aware psoriasis was common among CH'ers.  It first surfaced on me when I was 4.  Psoriasis IS hereditary, and it is also now KNOWN to be an autoimmune disorder.

Margi, I don't understand your statement pred can't cause it as well, that it's only coming from the pred??

My psoriasis has nothing to do with prednisone, and was present LONG before I had CH's.  (Or at least knew that I had CH's).  Sorry I'm sounding so dumb here, but that statement has me totally confused  :-/
