Title: Starting to get scared.... Post by Stampertje on Feb 5th, 2003, 9:31am This weekend I scared myself almost to death. For the first time my O2 failed in aborting the attack. First on saturday and then again on sunday. Saturdaymorning my girlfriend was out and so I was alone. For the chicken that I am ( 8)) this was a problem, because I'm terrified of needles. :-/ So I can't give myself a shot, because my hand trembles terribly. After an hour she came home and helped me to make the beast piss off. Thank God she was home on sunday!!! ;D I is it normal that O2 sometimes failes or is it possible that may lose its effect? PFDAN, Rik |

Title: Re: Starting to get scared.... Post by Tony_M on Feb 5th, 2003, 10:46am I am also deathly afraid of needles but when the attack gets really bad I manage to stick the thing in my butt. Do you have the spring loaded injectors? Just jamb and push the button, trembling is ok. If I actually had to push the needle in myself I wouldn't be able to do it. Knowing the springbutton is the point of no return I can do it. Look away and squeeze. |

Rik, You're not the first one that's had a problem with O2 failing at a critical time. There have been plenty of references to it in the past. For some, it quit working all together. For others, it quit working one cycle, then started working again the next. Oh great......... Quote:
Perhaps you should consider adding a second girlfriend..... you know, just to give you injections when your "Main Squeeze" is not at home. I'm sure neither one would have a problem with that, since we all know how nurturing and caring the female of our species is. Sounds good on paper, RJ |

Title: Re: Starting to get scared.... Post by Roxy on Feb 5th, 2003, 11:39am Rik, I'm a little scared this morning too. 02 failed me last night for the first time. Thankfully, I had the nasal sprays, stat pen, and new Maxalt tabs. I've never used the stat pen before, so I used the spray and tab together (while I was cussing my 02 bottle)....took a while, but finally worked. Get a stat pen so you don't have to use the needles....except try to read the instructions before you get hit at 3am, unlike me!!! I think Mr. Happy has a pretty good idea going on there for the extra girlfriend.....just call her your own private nurse (and make her wear a nurses uniform....LOL) I'm going to try the idea out on my husband......see if it works. ;D |

Title: Re: Starting to get scared.... Post by JDH on Feb 5th, 2003, 11:42am Stampertje, Bummer on the o2 failure. This is my first cycle using it and it has worked everytime so far...knock on wood. If you have the auto injector then you should never even see the needle. Just press it against your thigh, look the other way and push that button. I didn't think I could do it either but when the pain get's to a certain point I'm willing to do most anything to make it stop. Good luck and PFDAN's to you. |

Title: Re: Starting to get scared.... Post by Hank on Feb 5th, 2003, 5:57pm I'm a chronic and have been relying on 02 as an abortive for the past 15 years. I think it has failed only a handful of times, yielding most memorable visits by the beast. Looking back at those times, I can't identify anything about the headache or me that was different. By the next headache it was working as good as ever. Go figure. I can't even entertain the thought that it might one day stop working. To loose both my Sansert and my 02 would really suck. Best of continued 02 luck to us both. |

Title: Re: Starting to get scared.... Post by crispy on Feb 5th, 2003, 6:52pm I'm in the worst cycle of 30 years right now.My 02 also is not helping. I've done about 60 shots in 3 weeks with the Q-tip injection method(and boy are my arms tired).you definately get used to the needle after awhile. And we all know that compared to clusterpain it ain't nuthin'. Hang in there we'll make it! |

Title: Re: Starting to get scared.... Post by ave on Feb 5th, 2003, 7:20pm So sorry to hear that, Rick! If you have only the syringe (not the injector pen) then try a few time on an orange! Ask your girlfriend for some empties from the store and pratcice, practice! It seems not altogether a good idea to exchange your very doughty girlfriend for a new one!!!! Don't listen to these old goats! |

Title: Re: Starting to get scared.... Post by Stampertje on Feb 6th, 2003, 4:34am Great to hear that it can be a fluke. The O2 worked the last couple of day's just fine, so my trust in O2 is back. I was scared this was the beginning of the end... :-/ For the Imitrex: I am using the auto-injector. I'm a real idiot, but hand just freezes up. I just have that thing against my thy and that is as far as I get. Maybe if I hold it and have my thumb on the button my sweet and dearest girlfriend can push on my thumb. That could be a start.... (This is her idea, so no credit for me if it works ;) ) PFDAN to all, Rik O, almost forgot the nurse idea. My girlfriend has her birthday in a week, so I think I'll buy her a nurse outfit... ;D |

Title: Re: Starting to get scared.... Post by catlind on Feb 6th, 2003, 9:50am Rik, I've had O2 let me down as well. As a general rule I can count on it aborting 60% of my headaches. However, I am not on traditional 'gold standard' meds for CH YET. Working on that. But I figure even 60% is 60 times better than 0. Cat |

Title: Re: Starting to get scared.... Post by jonny on Feb 6th, 2003, 6:16pm When I was using Imitrex there was no joy greater to me than grabbing that vial, jabbing that needle in my arm and pushing on that Q-tip.....Just knowing that I was killing the beast brought a smile to a hurt'in head ;D ..............................jonny |
