Title: Any coffee addicts out there? Post by Roxy on Jan 30th, 2003, 12:52pm We are hard core coffee addicts in our house. I always thought the best coffee in the world was Jamaican Blue Mountain (but, it is waaaaay too expensive)...... I found some called Uganda Bugisu Special...... Since we live out in the boonies, we have no where to buy coffee beans locally.....so I always order online, and you can find a pretty good selection. Has anyone else ever heard of this kind of coffee? What kind of coffee do ya'll drink? Since the neuro told me to quit coffee....I'm kind of obssessing here. ;D ;) PFDAN, Tracey |

Title: Re: Any coffee addicts out there? Post by Roxy on Jan 30th, 2003, 1:29pm LMFAO good one Don! ;D No, I don't have migraines. Told me to lay off caffine, aspertame, my hormones, cigarettes, and alcohol.......figured he was going to tell me sex and food next. Then he has the balls to prescribe me cafergot (only 100mg of caffine in that). Cootie.....after my coffee in the morning, I move on to Pepsi One's.....then to iced tea. Gee....maybe I do have a caffine thing going on here!!!! LOL Guess I'll have to stick with wine.....no caffine there. ;) Mark....I'll have to try that Just Fucking Good coffee. |

Title: Re: Any coffee addicts out there? Post by catlind on Jan 30th, 2003, 1:32pm Roxy, can we talk? LOL Coffee addict, lessee, hubby has a grinder, a bunn coffee maker and wants to order the beans online GREEN and roast them himself for the freshest possible coffee you can get. The best method for roasting coffee beans btw, is an adapted hot air popcorn popper. Now that's an addict. Personally I was and am perfectly content and wonderfully in love with Tim HOrton's coffee, but I have to admit his fresh ground coffee is good. Cat |

Sounds typical. "don't drink coffee, thats a trigger, but here is a pill that condences, oh I don't know, 35 cups of coffee into one pill" Sort of like "don't drink mixed drinks you'll trigger a CH but here suck down this half pint of Vodka" So what is in the coffee that is the trigger? Or maybe it's the styrofoam cup it's in. |

Title: Re: Any coffee addicts out there? Post by marty on Jan 30th, 2003, 1:45pm Hey Roxy.. Next time that you are in one of those big TX Cities, stop by an IKEA store - They sell Swedish coffee. I buy all my coffee at IKEA and if you are not addicted to coffee before you try this kind, you will be for sure.. Now if my Neuro had the guts to tell me to quit coffee, cigarettes (and the occasional beer ;D).. Naawww.. he would not even consider that!! >:( The argument of coffee causing re-bound headaches.. if it helps me get rid of an attack - I have no problem with a re-bound headache.. What is that anyway? like a tension thing that you take two Advil for.. And the Swedish coffee can be ordered on line to by typing in Gevalia or Lofbergs on your search engine. And by the way (in case Svenn is reading this), there is no Norwegian coffee ;D Marty |

My husband started to sweat when he said give up the hormones.....and then whispered, "You're not really gonna do that are you?" Cat.....sounds like our house. We have the Capresso machine that grinds your beans, and then swings the filter around for you. Just tell me that the hotel rooms for the convention have a coffe pot in them....or room service!!!!! LOL My husband tried the roasting the beans.....told him he was just being a pain in the ass. Marty....I'm headed out the door now. For once, I'm in a BIG city. We make it strong. This only makes about 10 pots. We like: http://www.peets.com They also take orders online but here we have 3 stores in town. Much better than Starbuck's. I recommend Mocha Java, Sulawesi Kalossi, French Roast and Kenya. |

Post by Mark C on Jan 30th, 2003, 6:30pm Just North of the big JFG sign is an area of town called The Old City. http://www.raw-footage.com/OC/Old%20City.html Its an old "Brownfield" area that has become the trendy place to be....yuppie central. JFG roasts the beans in a huge old brick buliding....you can smell it for miles. In the basement is the Coffee Shop where you can drink fresh roast, fresh ground coffee, while you smell the beans roasting........nirvana! |

Title: Re: Any coffee addicts out there? Post by Lachesis on Jan 30th, 2003, 7:01pm I live in Seattle, home of the mermaid-pee - I drink an occasional cup there (maybe it tatstes better closer to the corporate HQ?). The Neuro didn't metion coffee as something to stay away from - she prolly has 'bucks stock... ::) Cafe Vita. Very good stuff. Watery coffee makes me pee too much - need hard stuff. Double Americano in the morning & mid-morning, and office coffee as filler (3-5 cups), Espresso after lunch, about 5 cups of the filler in the PM before I fight traffic to go home, and an espresso before bedtime. Addicted? Hell no. ...except the early morning Americano is very important to me ;) I also chew a lot of gum, too - seems to help keep the mind off of the fear of the next visit by the demon, and keeps my teeth clean, too! :D |

Title: Re: Any coffee addicts out there? Post by catlind on Jan 30th, 2003, 7:38pm Roxy, I hear ya big time on don't even talk to me until I've had at least ONE cup of coffee. Kim LOL no you don't grind green beans. You order coffee beans unroasted, (they are green) and then you roast them yourself, then grind them, then run them through a bunn coffee maker, and you have the best damn coffee going. Mom just brought home some dominican coffee beans from her trip, so we are looking forward to trying that :) Cat |

Title: Re: Any coffee addicts out there? Post by Jarvis on Jan 30th, 2003, 7:52pm Folgers special roast is the only real coffee. Made extra strong. Title: Re: Any coffee addicts out there? Post by SommelierCH on Jan 31st, 2003, 12:49pm I like a dark French Roast, fresh ground and black. So, as long as the coffee beans are 100% mountain grown arabica, from a known producer, I think the roasting process has more influence on the quality of brew in my cup, than the micro-climate the beans were grown in. When you “dark roast” a coffee bean, you destroy the lighter, volatile oils and acids that give it the unique qualities of it’s region. I look for full body, big flavor and reticent bitterness. Here is a site with tons of coffee info. http://www.coffeeresearch.org/science/news.htm David J. |

Title: Re: Any coffee addicts out there? Post by catlind on Jan 31st, 2003, 1:24pm David/Sommelier, Are you coming to the convention?? If you are, remind me not to let you and my hubby come into contact with each other. I don't think I could handle the conversation on the merits of how to roast beans and the levels of various acids and stuff etc etc. You two would take coffee and analyze it into something other than what I need to prevent me from becoming the cat in svenn's icon every morning :P Cat |

Title: Re: Any coffee addicts out there? Post by ave on Jan 31st, 2003, 4:23pm Cat, just let them go off together. You'll be rid of one nuisance at least, lol. I used to ask for the coffee IV when I went somewhere. BUT: Can't abide coffee standing around on hot plates. Best taste is gone before you know it. Can't abide instant, only in those milky fancy taste concoctions that don't taste like anything at all. At least that isn't coffee. I love the arabica with a sucpicion of robusta (no more) but have had lovely results with Nicaragua Rain Forest as they sell it here. There is a lovely shop selling freshly roasted and ground coffee only 10 minutes' walk away. Am I lucky or what? |

No one drinks as much or as strong coffee as I do. Svenn probably comes close. :D I was living with mom, and after she died, I was finally able to make coffee the way I liked. About the time I began my IV coffee (good one Rox) my CH began to disappear. It's most likely a coincidence but I try to impart anything different that I did as they went away. More than two pots a day here and Jamestown doesn't have a Starbucks. Had it in Rochester once. It was OK. Back here, Tim Horton's restaurants have the best coffee. Great stuff. Wendys runs the one we have. Good to the last guzzle Charlie |

Title: Re: Any coffee addicts out there? Post by SommelierCH on Feb 2nd, 2003, 5:57am Charlie, (very cool coffee .gif) I see that you have thrown down the coffee gauntlet, (“No one drinks as much or as strong coffee as I do. Svenn probably comes close.”) and Svenn along with it (maybe Svenn is wearing the gauntlet). I pick up your gauntlet, sans Svenn, and heave-ho back at you, with this: I have 26 years in the restaurant business. Coffee and espresso are free. Restaurants run on caffeine. Thousands of dollars are spent on our professional coffee machines, and the employees are welcome to drink as much as they like. I usually start my night with 3, double, fresh ground espressos, (the last one, run twice through) in a highball glass, with 3 ice cubes. I follow that with half espresso, half coffee for a while….. then I work my way into red wine……Catch. :) Catlind, “Me thinks thou doth protest too much”. You? Afraid of analysis? I think not! As soon as your husband and I start talking about the similarities of fine coffee and EISWEIN production, you will lose all inhibitions and jump in with both feet (insert your own punch line here). Peace, David J. Damn fubar. I had this written last night, (lost my connection) and now you show up. Talk about putting your money where your mouth is, that’s some setup! I can’t compete in the home brew league, but I will go head to head, mano a mano with Charlie’s statement, and his sans Svenn gauntlet. |

Title: Re: Any coffee addicts out there? Post by oringkid on Feb 3rd, 2003, 6:03pm Coffee.....I love it! I only wish that the taste could match that heavenly smell.........ummm! But! The best coffee I have ever had (although, I am nowhere near an expert!) is 7-11 coffee! I have no idea what kind it is, but boy is it good! I miss my 7-11 coffee!! :-[ I drink my coffee black, ie I truly can appreciate the taste. Unfortunately, my stomach limits my coffee intake. Sometimes I can drink unlimited amounts and other times I feel sick after only a few swallows! (I can prevent that by eating something sometimes) As to giving it up... I decided quite a few years back to "decaffeinate" myself. I had no idea that there would be withdrawal symptoms!! I had a dull, aggravating headache pretty much 24/7 for about 2 1/2 months!! Cold turkey is not the way with caffeine! LOL Sherry |
