Title: Is It Over? Post by JoeyT on Jan 23rd, 2003, 10:08pm I don't know how many of you read my posts from around Christams time - but I was a mess. Before Jan. 1998 I was basically chronic for 20 years. I got CHs everyday but was able to pretty much control then with Cafergot. In the spring and fall I would get a real bad bout that would last 8-10 weeks. SO I guess I was a chronic/ episodic sufferer. After getting ZERO headaches for almost 5 years they started coming back last fall. Right around the holidays the beast returned wanting payback for the 5 years of peace I had enjoyed. To top it off I've had a mild heart attack which completely rules out Cafergot, Imitrex...and most anything else except O2. I had a business trip I had to go on last week which scatred me to death. I had a few attacks but basically did OK. Have been on 40/30/40 prednisone on my trip and have been able to taper down to 20mg. The beast is showing his ugly face less and less...almost gone. I will soon (2-3 days,God willing) be of the steroids. Question...is it over? Can I have a beer? Not that I'm crazy about beer, but I know it would trigger a CH if they are still around. I still feel headachy now and then but they havent seemed to 'trigger'. How do I know they're gone (at least for a while)? I've got Nitroglycerine but sure as hell wouldn't take it just to see if it would trigger a CH........ How do I know for sure if the cycle is over???? Joey BTW, thanks to the people who offered to help when I had to be in Europe. Especially Ave and Svenn...you don't know how much your words of encouragement helped me. I am in your debt. Joey |

Title: Re: Is It Over? Post by Groove on Jan 23rd, 2003, 10:17pm My cycles just end as mysteriously as they appear. One day I'm on the verge of doing something unthinkable, and the next I'm singing along with Celine Dion (not that I think anybody SHOULD sing along with her insipid trash, but my point being that I'm so happy I would do anything). All this to say that I wish I could answer you but I'm just as stumped as you are when it comes to these damned bastards. |

Title: Re: Is It Over? Post by athos12 on Jan 24th, 2003, 1:50am The only triggers for me are fingernail polish and remover... (smelt not ingested :P ) Alcohol is not a trigger I have had it once and a ahwile I am not a drinker but on the occassion it has done nothing to me to trigger and attack. There is one pizza place and one chineese place that have triggered one every time I have eaten there. I don't eat there. I guess it is the cheeses or something that they use I don't know.... --Athos.... |

Title: Re: Is It Over? Post by rick on Jan 24th, 2003, 2:21am Joey, Nice outside here in Chitown, eh? GOOD GOD, welcome to freakin Alaska... I would personally hold off on the alcohol until I was sure I was out of the woods. Steroids will keep the symptoms down for me, only to see the beast return when I get off of them. Maybe you should wait until then. Peace, -R P.S. We're plotting a clusterhead Sox outing if you are interested. |

Title: Re: Is It Over? Post by suzy617 on Jan 24th, 2003, 5:45am Hi Joey, Beer was always a trigger for me while in cycle. I waited around 2 weeks after completely ending cycle including shadows, had my beer and all was good. You say you still feel headachy now so I wouldnt do anything that would piss the beast off just yet, as you know he can be a spitefull bastard. suzy |

Title: Re: Is It Over? Post by SommelierCH on Jan 24th, 2003, 7:23am Hiya Joey, (and others wondering about alcohol and shadows) ALCOHOL IS A TRIGGER! Sometimes it wouldn’t hit me until 6 hours later. Don’t drink any alcohol until you know for sure, that the shadows have LEFT, it’s just not worth the pain to find out. I drink wine for a living, but when that first attack starts my cycle, I go stone cold sober (10 weeks), until I feel clear of the shadows. If you’re not crazy about beer, don’t drink it. I, on the other hand, love beer, but even a non-alcoholic beer will set me off, if I still have shadows lurking. Until you know your cycle, play it safe, don't test it. Enjoy your PFDAN, David J. |

Title: Re: Is It Over? Post by Linda_Howell on Jan 24th, 2003, 11:07am LMAO @ this thread. I'm surprised someone hasn't mentioned John Tesh or Barry Manlow as a trigger. I agree with everyone here. Stay off the alcohol til you know for sure. Linda |

Title: Re: Is It Over? Post by suzy617 on Jan 24th, 2003, 12:57pm Barry Manilow? Geez I think he was singing his first song on the radio when I got my first CH. Maybe when he retires, I will finally be PF ;D suzy |

Title: Re: Is It Over? Post by K. on Jan 24th, 2003, 6:19pm Suzy, your reply is funny as hell, cracked me up. Same goes for me...maybe we ought to throw Manilow an EARLY retirement party. Then we'll both be PF...as a matter of fact...maybe that's the cure!! |
