Title: Pharmacies and other annoyances Post by Groove on Jan 23rd, 2003, 9:36pm Hey now! Okay, maybe I sound too upbeat for a CH sufferer but I just got over a really bad one and I'm elated! So there! But that's not what I want to write about. In fact, I really shouldn't be in a good mood as I write this. Here's what I'll do... I'm going to prick myself in the leg with my empty Imitrex needle over and over again until I become annoyed.... There, okay, now I can move on... OK, so what's the deal with the Pharmacists? I mean, only this afternoon this damned recent graduate of Pharmacy University punk refused to refill my Imitrex prescription until tomorrow, even though I had not gone over my 2 injections per day limit. I told him that I was definitely going to be suffering tonight because of his "professionalism" and he was going to be the one responsible for that. He told me he was just doing his job and then offered me some over-the-counter pain reliever that contained codeine! Now, maybe I'm stupid, but isn't codeine VERY addictive? Which is worse, the safe amount of prescribed Imitrex or an opiate? Anyway, I'm NEVER going to that damned drugstore again. Later on, I went to refill my oxygen tank and brought it home. Then just as I took off my boots I dropped the bloody tank on my big toe! Yeeeeowwwch!!! It's now severely bruised and I walk with a limp! I can only imagine how much it's going to suck tonight as I go through my pacing routine. One final rant. I'm going broke! All these meds and oxygen tanks are costing me a fortune! I know that my insurance will repay but I can't wait until next month, I have rent to pay! Boy would that ever suck... being a homeless, limping, pacing, moaning freak, begging for quarters so that I can buy my drugs from young holier-than-thou white coat wearing bastards. Ummm... that's it. I'll get off my soapbox now and go hide in the corner. Peace |

Title: Re: Pharmacies and other annoyances Post by Charlie on Jan 23rd, 2003, 11:14pm Damn sorry for your troubles Groove. A couple things: Codeine isn't that addictive unless you go nuts with it. It is I guess but I don't know anyone who had trouble with it. Of course it doesn't touch a cluster. Emprin & Codeine I think is what they use:-/ You can use welders O2 and save some real money. Others here can tell you about this. Saves lots of crap. O2 is O2 regardless what they say. Stick around. You'll find some good ideas on how to stretch Imitrex with something like smaller doses or the like. Charlie |

Title: Re: Pharmacies and other annoyances Post by jimbo on Jan 24th, 2003, 9:20am Hey Groove, Instead of poking yourself with the empty Im. needle, take it to the pharmacy, heat it up with a Bic lighter and insert it while its still red-hot right behind the pharmacists eye and twist several times ;D He'll get the picture. Sorry that you sometimes have to deal with ignorant people! What was the exact reason that he couldn't give it to you anyway? I'm curious. What did he mean by doing his job? Seeya, Jimbo |

Title: Re: Pharmacies and other annoyances Post by ozzman on Jan 24th, 2003, 9:51am Hey Groove, My recent experience with the pharmacy taught me a valuable lesson. I have gone through about 12 Imitrex refills in the last 6 weeks or so. (remember according to the guidelines for Migraines, you are only supposed to have a refill every month, which is BS for CHs). Anyway I found out that if your doctor specifies that the supply is, say a 2 or 3 day supply, then the pharmacist doesn't even flinch. However, I forgot to specify to my doctor the supply time thing, and the pharmacist was giving me all sorts of crap, your insurance won't cover it, etc. Well I told her that if she looked at her records, this is a 2 day supply for the kind of headaches I have. She agreed, and changed it herself!! :D After that I had no problems. Except, the pharmacy ran out of Imitrex >:( I used it all! So I had to transfer to another pharmacy around, and so on. Make sure you make your doctor specify how long should the supply last. It works. PFDAN to all Ozzy |
