Title: Lost my Friend Today Post by Slydog on Jan 17th, 2003, 6:47pm Just wanted to tell some of the most compasionate people I know that I lost my best friend of 15 years today. :'( She was my black lab that I got as a puppy. She has been my hunting partner, companion and a great dog. Today she started having siezures and I had to do one of the hardest things in my life.(maybe even harder than dealing with a CH) I had to have her put to sleep at 2:30 today. I am sure going to miss her and I am SOOOOO sad!!!! Just needed to share this with some friends that would understand. Sly |

Title: Re: Lost my Friend Today Post by firebrix on Jan 17th, 2003, 7:57pm Oh Slydog We are so sad to hear this and understand how you feel. We have outlived many canine Best Friends, the most recent our Blue Great Dane, Shadowfax, who was our constant companion. A good friend told me when I swore I'd never have another dog, that dogs need owners like us. Trained in dog-speak, and familiar with canine behaviour. This is long, but I liked it: A tribute to all Best Friends. Dogs are not our children. We feed them, teach them, clothe them and pick up their poohs but thankfully, they'll grow up to be nothing like us because we can't imprint our our worst upon them. Our neediness, our greediness and our comsumptive ferocity. We give them human names, but they're not human. They make us more than that. They make us immortal because we will outlive them. So, dogs are not our children They're better. firebrix |

Title: Re: Lost my Friend Today Post by CathiP on Jan 17th, 2003, 8:28pm Sly-My dog, Hawkeye has been gone now for 9 years- not a day goes by that I don't think of him. it is the unconditional love & their dedication that makes them so special to us. It's hard to say goodbye, but now she will be out of pain, up there looking down on all of us, and smiling at you. Hold her memory close to you. I'm glad you posted. You've got a big heart, and I'm sorry it's broken right now. Maybe some time in the future, you'll feel like finding a new puppy to love. Cathi |

Title: Re: Lost my Friend Today Post by cootie on Jan 17th, 2003, 11:22pm In Loving Memory of : Weep not for me though I am gone Into that gentle night. Grieve if you will, but not for long Upon my soul's sweet flight. I am at peace, my soul's at rest There is no need for tears. For with your love I was so blessed For all those many years. There is no pain, I suffer not, The fear now all is gone. Put now these things out of your thoughts, In your memory I live on. Remember not my fight for breath Remember not the strife. Please do not dwell upon my death, But celebrate my life. |

Title: Re: Lost my Friend Today Post by Linda_Howell on Jan 18th, 2003, 5:15am Slydog, It doesn't matter that this has nothing to do with cluster headaches. We are family here. And sometimes family gets more than it chooses to get. Believe me, we all grieved for Don's dog. Never got the chance to meet him. Your dog...understood what it meant when you had to put her down. Believe me she did. She is up in heaven along with Mildred. (sucking hostas) Linda Howell |

Title: Re: Lost my Friend Today Post by KingOfPain on Jan 18th, 2003, 5:38am Slydog, So sorry for your loss. A dog can sometimes not only be man's best friend, but also man's best comfort & healer. I am very glad you posted & am humbled that you chose to share this very painful time in you life with us. We are a compassionate family & do feel your sorrow. KingOfPain |

Title: Re: Lost my Friend Today Post by Silver_Dolphins on Jan 18th, 2003, 7:14am I am sorry for your loss, Sly. It sounds like she had a wonderful life with you. Labs are such good dogs. They have an inate ability to detect all of our emotions, I think, so much better than any other breed. I have a beagle (Buddy) that has to go to the vet on Monday to have his yearly and get a condition taken care of. I really hope it isn't serious. I don't think it is, because he doesn't seem bothered by it, but our pets can't tell us the amount of pain they are in. I hope your greiving is short lived. I am not a very religious man (spiritual though), but Billy Graham once told someone that lost his pet , that every living thing that brought you joy and happiness on earth will be with you in the afterlife. I hope this is true. PFDAN Barry |

Title: Re: Lost my Friend Today Post by Donna on Jan 18th, 2003, 8:45am Anyone can own a dog..........it takes a special person to be it's best friend. Sounds like this was one lucky dog who had a good, loving life. It is out of kindness and love that we put our pets down. They don't deserve to suffer. Sorry for your loss. |
