Title: New here... and a question
Post by gizmo on Jan 17th, 2008, 5:03am
Hi all!
My name is Oliver and I'm form Germany and I'm really, really glad I've found this site.

My Doc just told me that I'm most likely suffering from CH and sent me to the neurologist (I'll meet him on Tuesday next week).
I'm currently not sure when all this started, but it could be easily 15 years ago.

Question: Since the Doc didn't prescribe me anything I wonder what I can do until next week.
I already know from a long trial and error period that the usual analgesic don't help.
Melatonin is not an option since it isn't freely available in Germany.
Any ideas / hints?

Thanks and please excuse my bad English,
Oliver

Wie getz?

My O2 is helping me alot with my current cycle of CH's, mellitonine has helped at night, red bull and ice on the head.  Good luck, I hope your pain free soon!

In the US Army I spent 3 years outside Stuttgart, and 3 years in Buedingen.

Very well!

I've tried Red Bull last night and it helped me a lot - thanks Kev!
This was the first night for the last seven days with a few hours of sleep.
HURRAY!

I found brisk walks helpful prior to finding out what these were and later getting hooked up with oxygen.  It does not do much for the duration of the hit, but seems to knock it down a notch.  Or maybe it jut gives me something to do besides suffering.  Like oxygen, start as soon as you feel the first twinge of pain.

Your English is far far better than my Deutsch.  perhaps you can fill us in on any news from the doctors over there.  Two sites are:

http://www.clusterheads.de/

Please keep in touch!

Jon

One thing I found is already mentioned in the "O2 question" thread (http://www.clusterheadaches.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=meds;action=display;num=1200579702).

Anyway, I'll have a look at them again and see if I can find some more useful information and post them here.

I will!

Today the neuro confirmed the diagnose.
He prescribed me prednosine and ascotop (zomig), despite the fact that I demanded O2 >:(

To me the prednisone dose seams a bit high.
7 days with 50mg, 7 days with 40mg, 7 days with 30mg and so on.

For now I'll wait and see how good the ascotop works as an abortive.

Any further suggestions?

I've always had to take the prednisone in high doses.  I hate it.  It makes me nervous and eat a lot.  It only kicked the cycle out once in all my cycles.
