Title: Yet another request... Post by Gator on May 19th, 2008, 12:31am Seems like there is an awful lot of non-ch pain and suffering going on lately with our families. It saddens me to read post after post about it and now I am adding to it once again. My grandson, Phillip, was climbing around and thought the light bulb in a lamp looked like something he should have. He grabbed the bulb and got second degree burns on his hand. Many of you know he only has the one hand as it is, so aside from the pain of the burn, he is miserable right now not being able to do everything he is used to doing. Here's what his hand looked like yesterday. http://www.plainboard.com/ch/phillipburn.jpg Please remember him in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks, Mike |

Title: Re: Yet another request... Post by Annette on May 19th, 2008, 1:00am OUCH ! That hurts ! Poor little baby ! :( Have you got silvazine cream ? They are excellent for burn. You can keep it in the fridge and apply a thick layer on the hand, cover with a non stick large bandaid and wrap the hand up with crepe bandage for protection. The cool SSD cream is very soothing and will prevent infection as well as promote quick healing for the burnt tissue. It also prevents scarring and should heal within 7 to 10 days. When the new skin starts to form, you can apply some vitamin E cream mixed with a bit of cortisone cream to avoid itchyness and scratching. All the strongest healing vibes going to Phillip. Note: fluorescent light bulbs use much mess energy and arent as hot. Edited to add : Mess energy ? OMG !!! I meant LESS ! :P |

Title: Re: Yet another request... Post by Gator on May 19th, 2008, 8:43am Thanks, everyone. Needless to say, Phillip has learned what the word Hot means. He now points to the lamp and tells his mommy, "Hot!" Harsh way to learn, though. It's not slowing him down too much. Through the miracle of high speed, time lapse photography, scientists have been able to produce this still shot of a tornado: http://www.plainboard.com/ch/phillipburn2.jpg Poor kid hates being corralled. |

Title: Re: Yet another request... Post by George_J on May 19th, 2008, 9:25am Yep. He's that age. [smiley=eek.gif] Mobile, curious, relentless...but able to discover trouble that would never occur to an older child or an adult. Always scared the crap out of me. You have to watch them like a hawk, and even if you do, they'll manage to acquire some divots that you can't even imagine. Set up a lawn chair, and they'll clamber into it in such a way that the whole thing topples over, and they SOMEHOW RIP THAT LITTLE FLAP OF SKIN INSIDE THEIR LOWER LIP WHICH BLEEDS LIKE MAD (whatever that thing is called) . Go to the ocean, and they'll make a beeline for the surf, even though the waves are tossing whole logs around. Show them a mellow old cat, and they'll pull her tail experimentally to see how firmly it is attached. Make dinner, turn your back, and discover that they're wandering around with a twelve-inch chef's knife. It's enough to make your hair fall clean out. Best, George |

Title: Re: Yet another request... Post by deltadarlin on May 19th, 2008, 9:30am Burns are nasty! I remember when my best friend's little boy grabbed her curling iron and came up with a set of nasty burns. Lucky for her, one of my co-workers was an ex burn nurse, so we were able to *treat* the burns (he had burns on several joints of his fingers). She had to debrede the burns several times a day (TW was about 18 mths old at the time). Once it healed, you couldn't even tell he had been burned. Silvadene ointment is the absolute best, but I do think it takes a prescription. Hey, at least you don't have to turn the playpen upside down to corral him ;). Carolyn |
