Title: Bossman needs prayers Post by Sandy_C on May 13th, 2008, 3:24pm As I've posted over the last several months, my boss has suffered heart problems, stokes, congestive heart failure, the whole nine yards. Yet, this man still tried his best to come in here and be as productive as he could. And, yes, I complained bitterly because he could not be helpful while here, and most often caused more problems. For the past few weeks, bossman has been driven in to the office by his wife, and has been able to spend just a couple of hours here trying to do what he can at his business. This morning, his wife brought him in and they both stayed an hour or two while he read through the mail. Then, they left to take him to a doctor's appointment at noon. About 20 minutes ago, his wife shows up here because she had left her cell phone on bossman's desk. She told me that he had been transported via ambulance from the doctor's office to the hospital, and she needed her cell phone to be able to contact their two daughters and their son. This does not sound good. As much as I complain about my boss, would you please send some prayers his way? His name is Bill. Thanks Sandy |

Title: Re: Bossman needs prayers Post by Sandy_C on May 14th, 2008, 1:36pm Bill is still alive, although extremely weak. He is connected to some sort of pump system that is draining excess fluid from his body. His body cannot get rid of fluids, even though he is and has been taking Furisomide (sp), which is supposed to get rid of the excess fluid, which is causing him to have congestive heart failure. The reason he was transported so quickly is because is blood pressure was dangerously low and he needed to be stabilized. I wondered about this a few days ago because when he tried to stand up out of his chair, he had no balance and started to fall. I was standing right in front of him, so I was able to grab his arm and let him fall back in to the seat of his chair, so no harm was done, but I wondered what was causing this loss of balance. Low blood pressure can do that. I appreciate all the prayers and vibes. As difficult as this man is to work for, I've been with him 18 years, and I hate to see him this way. Please keep em coming. Sandy |

Title: Re: Bossman needs prayers-UPDATE Post by Sandy_C on May 15th, 2008, 12:21pm Well, things are not looking good. Bill is now on a respirator and is heavily sedated. His body is building up fluid faster than they can pump it out. I don't think he's going to be coming back here again. Thanks for the prayers, please keep them coming. Sandy |

Title: Re: Bossman needs prayers-UPDATE Post by Sandy_C on May 22nd, 2008, 5:35pm Bill passed away late Monday afternoon. The fluid build up in his body ended up being more than his body could bear. At last post, he was on a respirator because he had fluid in his lungs, his blood pressure was almost non-existent, and his heart rate was skyrocketing. The respirator did help in raising the BP and lowering the heart rate. They began to wean him off the respirator on Monday. Bill had a defibrillator in his chest from a previous heart attack and once the respirator began to allow his lungs to breathe on their own, his heart stopped and the defibrillator began going off - 7 times. They could not re-start his heart. I've worked for him since October of 1989. At that time, I was a real estate agent, working in a really down market, so I picked up a little part time job doing some typing for Bill and his son, Eric. Well, that little typing job evolved in to an almost 19 year long partnership. Bill was a demanding employer, and I've complained about him several times on these boards on days when I had just about had it, ready to walk, and totally frustrated. He always expected perfection, and 110% dedication to our customers. The buck always stopped at his desk. If something went wrong with a job and the customer was unhappy, Bill made it right, no matter the cost. In my early days with Bill, there were times when I got my paycheck, but he didn't. This is integrity. Bill and I had two distinct personalities, political views, social views, economic views, and racial views. He was probably the worst bigot that I had ever met in my life, and as far as women were concerned, he, as the man, had to shelter us and take care of us. He had never really known a liberated woman until me got to know me (his words) So sparks flew frequently in the office. Yet, Bill taught me everything I know about site lighting, and I don't profess to know it all, but I know a good damn lot of it. He was an avid summer gardener and taught me how to grow tomatoes, corn, beans (I grow tomatoes, but that's about it). His summer garden at his home was huge, and I benefited every year with bags of beans, corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, which Tarey and I thoroughly enjoyed. Bill also taught me a few other things like how to read a racing form. He was an avid thoroughbred horse racing fan. He told me about reading the bloodlines, the history of races, the sire and dam. He taught me about across the board betting, trifectas, etc. We spent many fun-filled hours before the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, Belmont Stakes, and the Breeder's Cup "picking our ponies". We made actual money bets in earlier years (we had a bookie), but in later years, just fun bets. This year, he was able to watch the Derby, but was unable to see the Preakness. Preakness day (Bill was hooked up to a respirator in the hospital). I picked horses and made just for fun bets for Bill. One of my bets was a trifecta, which I had never bet before in my life, but Bill always laid money down on a trifecta, so I bet Bill's trifecta. He/we won! And, then he died on Monday. Bill's funeral was today. I'm sorry this post is so long. I guess I'm just letting go of my grief, venting as usual, but also remembering. Thanks to all of you for your prayers and reading this long post. Bill is in a better place. Sandy |

Title: Re: Bossman needs prayers Post by Redd on May 22nd, 2008, 5:50pm I'm so sorry Sandy. I know it was frustrating at times, but with his ill health, maybe this was the right thing for him at this time. Sometimes a body just say's "I've had enough." He's no longer suffering, and this is what we who are left need to hang tight to. Love you. |

Title: Re: Bossman needs prayers Post by Cathi_Pierce on May 23rd, 2008, 8:38am Sandy, I woke up this morning, wondering if there would be an update on your Bossman, and now this........ Miracles happen in many ways. I think Bill's miracle was being able to slip away quickly. His body had been put through an awful lot. In time, the pain will be replaced by good memories, and a peace will settle in, knowing he no longer suffers. Thanks for sharing your friend with us. MY Sympathy., Cathi |

Title: Re: Bossman needs prayers Post by Sandy_C on May 23rd, 2008, 1:51pm Thank you all so much for your kind words. They mean everything to me. I'm OK, just a little depressed and I cry easily, especially when reading your posts. Bill was a great man, whether I agreed with him or not. It's time for this thread to be put to rest, just as Bill has been put to rest. I love you all. Sandy |
