Title: Vibes needed... Update 2 Post by DennisM1045 on May 10th, 2008, 11:46am My Mother In Law Frances went into the hospital yesterday with severe chest pain. She's a tough old bird. So for her to ask to be taken to the hospital told us it was serious. The diagnosis came this morning: Aortic Dissection. This is what killed John Ritter - quickly. No one is sure why she's stlll here. She was just transported to Mass General in Boston and will be undergoing surgery shortly. She's gonna be 80 this July and has advanced COPD so no one knows if she'll even survive the anesthesia. If the old bird doesn't pull through I'm not sure who I'm gonna fight with anymore. If you have a few vibes, prayers or positive thoughts to send her way we'd appreciate them. -Dennis- |

I love you all. Well Old Fran is still hanging in there. The current strategy is to keep her stable until Monday. That's when all the experts will be back in the hospital again. With all that's going on with her they don't want to rush into anything that would do more harm than good. First, do no harm. She's been on a new drug that is supposed to repair the damage in some without surgery. Unfortunately an MRI this morning showed no improvement so far. So things aren't looking good. It's getting hard to see a way for this to end well. And I'm an optimist... -Dennis- |

Updated Post by DennisM1045 on May 13th, 2008, 9:57pm Well the verdict is in: the dissection starts at the Iliac Crest (where the Aorta splits to feed the legs) and extends one foot up into the abdomen towards the heart. No surgery. No stint. It's just too much of a risky with her lung issues. She's been prone, unable to sit up because of the pain for 5 days now. They're talking about sending her up to rehab in the next day or so. I'm not sure what they are expecting. So we're preparing ourselves now for the last dance. The hospital is assigning a case worker once she gets out of CCU and into rehab. All we want now is to get her back home again. So she can be with the dogs and Grandkids. This will be the third Grandparent they've lost in the last four years. 2004 - My Dad George 2006 - Andrea's Dad Oliver 2008? - ... Andrea's Dad passed peacefully holding the had of a Grand Daughter in the parlor of the addition they shared which is attached to our Kitchen. I guess Fran will go the same way. I just hope it's as peaceful as his passing. Everyone is still holding out hope for a miracle but I just don't feel it. -Dennis- |

I hope she finds comfort and a respite from her pain soon and is granted many more years of life. You have a loving, cohesive family, and itsounds like you rally round when needed to most. It is hard to let a loved one go- I know, I am coming up on my mother's 1st anniv of her death. The hole in my world left by my mother can be justified- it was time, at 82, and her smile had faded. The picture of overwhelming joy I saw on my mother's face as she knew she was slipping away let me know this IS what should be happening. Frances seems to have that same spirit. She could very well decide this is NOT her time-you just never know. All you need to do is make sure every day counts.and, remember, miracles DO happen. |

Fran walked to my waiting car for the ride home today. Like I said before, one tough old bird. Looks like the combined vibes and prayers of family virtual and blood related worked! Thank you everyone from the bottom of our hearts. We have her home again. We have what we all wanted. She's back home with her dogs, our twin Bostons and her "girls", my daughters. How long she has is open to question. If she doesn't aggravate it and keeps her BP and HR down she'll can stay out of trouble. Only time will tell. But the important thing is that she is here now and that is all that counts. -Dennis- |

Heart irregularities, aneurism scare, and lupus. She's 84 now and has continuing health issues, but she just keeps keepin' on.
