I agree Mel birds are free spirits ! the world looks better that time in the morning !

Charlotte, I was lucky to get the siskin because they are only in my part of the uk in the winter in the summer they fly north, So that lone male was a bit of a find !
And the linnet has just made it on to the red list for the uk  :( numbers are dropping fast the pic i got was the first one id ever seen too !!

I see them there photos now - wonderful.  I love the dragon fly, although I was thinking it looked more like a damson fly as it is a lot more slender, do you know which it is?

I saw my vey first woodpecker 2 weeks ago, I got very excited as I did not know we had them here, but we do have one type, although I cannot remember what it is called.

Sorry about the hits, but atleast the weather has been great for early mornings

You must be so good with that camera ! I find it very hard to come close for a good pic when it comes to birds, they always fly away too quickly !

It's a Damselfly, they are a little smaller, thinner and longer, To be honest they are not as pretty,
As for the woodpecker i think (about 90% sure) it's the Cardinal woodpecker you have in Jersey. There hard to see but the song "laugh" is unmistakeable once you have heard it once you will know it a mile off, Ill try and find a sound file for one for you, i have a sound file for the green woodpecker its   http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdguide/name/g/greenwoodpecker/index.asp  click play on the left
