Title: Balloons in the air! Post by sandie99 on Apr 26th, 2008, 8:34am Timo and I just witnessed this nice event in which 30000 nature friendly balloons were released to the air. These balloons were released to honor Finland's Tivoli, a travelling amusement park, which is turning 120 this year. This was the biggest balloon event of its kind back in the whole Scandinavia. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b176/sandie99/balloons.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b176/sandie99/balloons2.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b176/sandie99/balloons3.jpg Sanna |

Michael, the officials said that the balloons can fly hundreds of kilometers to anywhere, but if they will raise too high, they will explode. Apparently, about 9 kilometers high is enough to destroy them. Everything is possible, though... :) Barry, don't worry, I'm too afraid of hights to even think about that! Timo and I did joke that if Eetu and Kasper would have seen the balloons, they probably could have tried them as a method of transportation... ;) Quote:
I can imagine! :) There were lots of kids, who were all excited! Naturally, some of them were excited because 100 of those balloons had a gift certificate inside them - the kids tried to find those balloons of course. The kids will get a doll with that certificate. Quote:
Jerry, ballons are usually made out of plastic, which doesn't decompose at all, but these nature friendly balloons are simply balloons, which will decompose easily and without harming the nature. A friend of ours got all excited about the idea and plans to get similar balloons for First of May celebrations, which is The occasion for balloons back in here. :) I'm not sure if similar nature friendly balloons are already in stock at stores, but if they are, I'm sure that they'll be a big hit this year. Title: Re: Balloons in the air! Post by sandie99 on Apr 27th, 2008, 4:54am Bit more info... Today's papers reported that actually there were 31 000 balloons in the air - they wanted to be sure that a new record will be set in case lots of balloons will be broken early. And what comes to where balloons can travel: previously balloons which were sent from Helsinki were later on spotted somewhere in Estonia, Sweden and as far as in France. Naturally Jyväskylä and Helsinki are located on different parts of the country, but who knows where the wind will carry the balloons! :) And the nature friendly balloons are made from the rubber tree. They're latex balloons. They break down in the environment the same time as it takes an oak leaf. Biodegradable. :) |
