Title: Re: I knew it... Post by barry_sword on Apr 26th, 2008, 6:39am People just do not get it!!!! >:( Our ratio's are very high here also. I drink, but never drive after cracking open that first beer. It is that simple, but others still do it, over and over again. [smiley=twocents.gif] |

Title: Re: I knew it... Post by brewcrew on Apr 26th, 2008, 7:19am My brother's in prison until November because of it. |

Title: Re: I knew it... Post by Melissa on Apr 26th, 2008, 8:10am Unfortunately that is our reality. And I've done it in the past myself, drink and then drive (not a lot, but the count does NOT matter). That was years ago and thank God no one was hurt or killed. I try very hard to hit home just how bad it is to drink and drive with Lily. Figure it's much better to hit them when they're young rather than when it's too late. :-/ I will say though that yes, being a Wisconsinite, we definately do enjoy our alcohol. :-[ |

Title: Re: I knew it... Post by LeLimey on Apr 26th, 2008, 8:13am It doesn't matter which state, or country or skin colour - whatever - has the worst drinking and driving rates. What matter's is the information is there to make tables from. I have no tolerance for drink drivers what so ever. I was knocked down at 16 by a woman who was so drunk that not only did she not know she had hit me, she ploughed her car into a house across the road AFTER hitting me and didn't realise that either! A hot shot lawyer got her off too which sickens me even more. The thing is, drinking and driving will not stop until we condemn and villify everyone we know who does. All of us, not just me or Brew.. EVERYONE. Anyone who has a couple of beers, or wines or whatever and thinks they can sit behind the wheel and drive home is a murderer looking for somewhere to happen. Treat them as such. |

Title: Re: I knew it... Post by brewcrew on Apr 26th, 2008, 8:31am And my brother never even hit, hurt or killed anyone. He simply got caught doing it on five separate occasions. The boy needs help, and he'll never get it until he admits that he needs it. Jail is the best place for him. The papa bear in me knows that there's one less drunk a-hole out there who might harm or kill my family. And that drunk a-hole happens to be related to me. I love him because he's my brother, and I hate him because of the path he's chosen. |

Title: Re: I knew it... Post by barry_sword on Apr 26th, 2008, 8:44am This friend of our salesman at my work place was charged with DUI and this waste of skin comes into the shop (on his bike) and jokes about his arrest and his day in court. I am getting red in the face as I type but how I would love to hit record on my camera of him making these jokes and then show it to the judge.! This smart-ass is a prime example that the drunk driving laws here and many other places are not any where near tough enough for these killers. >:( |

Title: Re: I knew it... Post by BarbaraD on Apr 26th, 2008, 8:53am When my son started driving that was one hard fast rule we had -- IF YOU HAVE A DRINK (even one Beer) DO NOT DRIVE - call me and I'll come get you - no questions. As far as I know (and he's almost 40) he still follows that rule. He pulled a good one last night (well some of his cousins were in town and they went to the VFW) and Mama had to go get him, but he didn't drive. We've got to go get his truck this morning, but he had a wonderful time.. :) But I'm with you guys --- NO DRINKING AND DRIVING for any reason. Call a cab or a friend to come get you. It's just not worth the risk. Hugs BD |

Title: Re: I knew it... Post by brewcrew on Apr 26th, 2008, 9:20am Oh, I almost forgot to ask: Quote:
What's that supposed to mean? |

Title: Re: I knew it... Post by jimmers on Apr 26th, 2008, 9:21am Done it myself, absolutely no excuses except for pure and unadulterated stupidity on my part. The company I work for has a cab ride reimbursement policy. If you have had to much to drink, call a cab, keep the receipt and you will be reimbursed, NO QUESTIONS ASKED! I and some coworkers have used it a few times and we are not embarrased by it in the least. Better than letting my "Whiskey muscles" make the decision for me. Jimmers |

Title: Re: I knew it... Post by Callico on Apr 26th, 2008, 10:00pm We jsut settled for the wreck caused by a drunk driver that hit my wife and two of my kids three years ago last week. He had been speeding up and down the street for a couple fo hours, running the stop sign and terrorizing the neighborhood. My son was on his 4th day on his learners permit when the idiot blew the stop sign one last time, t-boning and rolling our van. My wife is stillhaving problems with her neck and headaches that the neurologist said will probably be with her the rest of her life. The drunk had no insurance, (of course), and no license, (of course). ALL he got was 4 weekends in jail, (he has to pay room and board), and he has to go to "school". It aint right! Jerry |

Title: Re: I knew it... Post by Charlie on Apr 26th, 2008, 10:42pm The only time I drove other than a driveway...I did take driving lessons ages ago...was when I was the only one not so drunk in the Chevy that I could find the road. God what idiots. A drunk epileptic behind the wheel. Charlie |

Title: Re: I knew it... Post by Redd on Apr 27th, 2008, 12:45am I'm woman enough to admit that I was behind the wheel and got nailed. Much like Charlie, my Designatd Driver ended up too sloshed to walk or talk, let alone drive. I've seen drunk drivers, over tired drivers, in-attentive drivers. Hell you don't even have to be drunk. In October of 07 a Cop here in town T-boned and killed a teenager here in town. Drunk, tired, talking on a cell phone... Stay off the road. Period. |

Title: Re: I knew it... Post by zwibbs/Scott on Apr 27th, 2008, 6:42am A hot shot lawyer got her off too which sickens me even more. It really isn't the lawyers--it is the Judge in the case. I had a brother in law who worked for Ameritech in Wisc. -several years ago-( now the company is SBC) He was hit by a DD and was involved in a nightmare case--Not only was the driver drunk, but he had a suspended license. It also was obvious that he had political friends and the gentleman walked away free and clear. The law must be the same in every state and country---We must demand a zero--and I mean zero tolerance for this nonsense. The problem is the same everywhere, and it must be stopped. |
