Title: More Battery Drama! (Good news at last!!)
Post by Lizzie2 on Apr 22nd, 2008, 10:10pm
ACK!  So I couldn't post this last night since the site was being "chilled out" for a bit, but yesterday I got news that the newest battery coming out for the occipital/supraorbital nerve stimulator will not be out until August at the earliest!

This was a devastating blow for one planning to have surgery on May 13.

But after talking with the company rep today, I think we are just going to go ahead and implant the larger battery that is already out on the market and keep everything as planned on May 13.  The larger battery still isn't all that big - it's just that instead of getting it implanted in my chest, I'll have to get it placed in my abdomen.  It would stick out far too much on my chest.  The company rep has to discuss this with the neurosurgeon tomorrow to see if he will be agreeable to implanting the larger battery instead of having to wait for the new small one to come out.

The good news is that if I want to interchange the batteries at some point in the future, I can.  So that's a good thing, but I honestly think this one will be fine.

So tomorrow I will find out for sure if we are a "Go" for May 13 for this surgery.  I swear this process has thrown me more brick walls than I know what to do with!  I hope that isn't a sign!   :-[

Thanks for listening to my battery drama part one hundred and eleven. ;)

Hugz,
Carrie :)

You know what's funny is that this is going to turn me into the Energizer Bunny because here's the thing.  I've been on all these meds for a long time now and they knock the living daylights out of me.  But unfortunately this is the only way I've been able to continue functioning as a human being.  But getting the stimulator will allow me to eventually get off all the meds, and then I truly will be back to my energetic self. :)

Well it's official!!  I just got the call from the battery company representative, and he spoke with the neurosurgeon.  The neurosurgeon is in agreement to use the battery already out on the market and implant it in the abdomen instead of the chest due to it being slightly larger than the new battery that will be coming out late this year.  So now I can finally relax over this whole thing and just concentrate on getting through the next few weeks and preparing for the surgery.  I feel greatly relieved!! :)

Thanks for listening to all my crazy drama with this thing.  I have a feeling that this surgery is going to mean a much better quality of life that I have been waiting for for a long time.  :)

Hugz,
Carrie :)

This is great news Carrie!  And you don't have to blaze new trails with the new battery.  That's a good thing  ;)

I have the date marked.  I'll be prayin for you from the night before...

I'm stoked for you, Carrie. Or Lizzie. Which leads me to my next question:

What are we supposed to call you?

Thanks guys!!  I'm excited that it is finally going to be happening.  I know it's going to be a bit of a recovery, but that's ok - the end result is worth it!

Jim - Where did you get yours implanted?  You might have told me before but I can't remember - I'd have to go back through the PMs you sent me!  So you went with ANS and not medtronic, too?  Medtronic has a tiny one out, but I have worked so well with ANS that I want to stay with them.  Plus then if I have the larger battery put in now, someday I could have it switched to the smaller one if need be.  The company rep held the battery up to my abdomen, and it seems like it'll fit there just fine - it really doesn't seem to be that big.  Smaller than I remembered it being, really!  Do you feel it has helped you?

Brew - Oh whichever you feel like, really!  I originally used Lizzie here because for one, I wasn't sure about using my 1st name on the internet, and also because I prefer the name over Carrie.  My dad has always called me by my middle name, which is Elizabeth, so some of the people who know me close call me by Lizzie.  However, I can't remember how but I must've told one or two people here that my real first name is Carrie, so then everybody started calling me that.  So the answer is I'll answer to either one! :P

Hugz,
Carrie/Lizzie2 :)
