I had mine done today...

By a guy...immediately, I asked him if he was gay. I thought I would feel more at ease - not, though he laughed and said yes.

I feel violated. I mean he was just pulling and tugging and what not trying to place my breasts to fit right in the "sqooshing" machine.

He said it's harder with bigger breasts to place them just right. :-[

Whew! Got through that...now you ladies don't forget to. Not a great experience, but saves lives...even if you have to go through a few moments of torture and embarrassment. :-/

Had two friends go through surgery and chemo in the last year because they didn't get it done.
Better some bruises than ..............

And while you are at it ladies, please see your GP for a pap smear too. That can also save someones life ...

I had mine done last Monday. I hate that test. My boobs still ache. Dr. said everything looked fine on the test. I was a little worried there for a while I had found something suspicious. I usually get mine around my annaversary so I remember. Hope yours turns out well to ladies. Remember it saves lives.

I think they should be mandatory for men, too. I went to high school with a GUY who had breast cancer (brew can confirm since he knew him, too).

If the prostate cancer test was anything like the mammogram, men would NEVER have them done.

I have fibroid cysts, so I've had annual mammos for over 20 years now. :-X One good thing I've noticed as I age ... the longer my boobs get, the easier it is to lay them on that freezing plate. ;) Still hurts, though...but I do it... because it's the right thing to do.

What's even better than saving your boobs? Saving your life.

Nani, the "longer your boobs get"??? I'm sorry but that cracked me up.

I agree that this should be mandatory for men as well.

I've had my pap done too 5 months ago--they said it was "inconclusive"???...so I have to have another one done in two weeks as I just had a procedure done where they had to go through my cervix into my womb to get biopsies of the lining...that was fun. Gordon was with me and I nearly broke his hand.

I'm dreading a colonoscopy...I think I want to completely asleep for that or maybe i'll be lucky and faint while it's being done.

I think that most colonoscopies are done while you are asleep, or at least not cognizant. Jimbo and Sarah both have had one and neither remember anything. With both of them, they use Versed, so they weren't *aware* of what was going on and even if they were, they can't remember it.

Carolyn who will have to face that one this year too.

Yep me too. I am having a colonoscopy Wednesday morning. Gotta go by some of that nasty stuff to drink Tuesday night. I can't wait. Old age.............not for the faint of heart.

Had a colonoscopy about 5 months ago.

Gave me a shot of the lala stuff and a little later asked if I felt it. Said no. They gave me second shot and started the procedure. I laid there and watched my insides go by on the monitor. A little pain from cramping but not bad.

Jimi, the prep stuff is the worst part. I was up most of the night taking care of business.

I do the things I'm sposed to...........but my Grandmother's 102-how long do ya really what me to live????

On the subject of Mamograms... a friend sent this to me.....

Ladies pay very close attention.

I'll never forget the look in my patients eyes when I
had to tell them they had to go home with the drains,
new exercises and no breast.
I remember begging the Doctors to keep these women in
the hospital longer, only to hear that they would, but
their hands were tied by the insurance companies.
So there I sat with my patients, giving them the
instructions they needed to take care of themselves,
knowing full well they didn't grasp half of what I was
saying, because the glazed, hopeless, frightened look
spoke louder than the quiet 'Thank You they muttered.

A mastectomy is when a woman's breast is removed in
order to remove cancerous breast cells/tissue.
If you know anyone who
has had a Mastectomy, you may
know that there is a lot of discomfort and pain
afterwards.
Insurance companies are trying to make mastectomies an
outpatient procedure.
Let's give women the chance to recover properly in the
hospital for 2 days after surgery.

It takes 2 seconds to do this and is very important .
Please take the time and do it really quick!

should be heard, this is one of those times.

There's a bill called the Breast Cancer Patient
Protection Act which will require Insurance Companies
to cover a minimum 48-hour hospital stay for patients

wishes of their doctor, still groggy from anesthesia
and sometimes with drainage tubes still attached.

Lifetime Television has put this bill on their Web
page with a petition drive to show your support. Last
year over half the House signed on.

I still think it should be called a "Mrs Pap" smear test.

After all, it was Mrs Pap (Andromache Papanicolaou) who submitted to the procedure every morning, every morning, for twenty consecutive years, so her husband George could develop the test that works so well to this day.

Call it what you like, ladies. It'll always be the Mrs Pap test to me.

I never knew that about the Pap smear Aussie. 20 years of pap smears? My goodness.

Colonoscopies scare me because I know a lot of people that do remember and remember certain "comments" the people doing them said. My sister had 3 done in the hospital before she died and the last one blew a hole in her colon...therefore, they had to remove her colon, and redirect her large intestine to a hole they made in her abdomen. she had to have an eltiostomy done (when you need a bag to poop in from your abdomen) after that.

Get mine every year. Heck, usually get to have two on at least one boob!

I literally refuse to have a man do my mammogram. Fortunately, my clinic has only women do them.

just wanted to mention for any ladies who use prednisone, prednisone can make viruses worse, and that includes papiloma virus, so make sure you get your pap smears.

Just what is it that posesses a doctor to choose that particular end of the anatomy as a specialty? There are a lot to choose from.

Of course, if it's some kink, I don't wanna really know.

I wonder how they would give a man a mammogram? My uncle died of breast cancer several years ago.

For the ladies, if you can schedule your appt. for after that time of the month, you can alleviate some of the pain involved.

I had a colonoscopy. I woke up in the middle of it, they had to give me another shot to knock me out. I was so messed up when I got out, I could barely walk to the door, let alone to the car. The nurse had to put my shoes on for me, because I just couldn't handle it.

Nani, gravity sucks, doesn't it? I don't know, sometimes, I wonder, if I had to have a breast removed, if I would have reconstruction surgery, or not. Or a prosthetic? I think I would feel lopsided. Maybe just have the other one removed? Having to wear a bra is a PITA. Keyword here is having (to).

Guys... think of it this way... it would be kind of like having your balls hanging down to your knees. Be kind of in the way, wouldn't they?

Anyway, get your mammograms. Definitely.

If I can toss in here for guys to also have a PSA test for prostrate, get it checked past your mid-forties on.

been gettin a mammo since 30.................DE4MANDED it from gyn..............................BC..happens earlier than 40..........also get a sonogram every yr....if @ high risk....LADIES................DEMAND IT FROM DOC............it is a ABSOLUTE MUST..........................LADIES GETTING BC VERY YOUNG................every woman should be self cking all the time and gettin mammos..........DO NOT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER..............................if insurance does not cover, find the money & pay.............VERY IMPORTANT!!!.

also, young girls shoudd be gettin a PAP SMEAR as early as 16, if sexually active.............HPV.RAMPANT!!!!! TAKE UR DAUGHTERS EARLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and be very open in your talking with them, as well as your sons...........................HPV vaccine very close to gettin approved for males....................that is ...IF THEIR MOTHERS ALLOW THEM TO GET........................they r a carrier.....................................................optional....................................... the hpv vaccine(3 shot dose0 only prevents against certain virus'..............still may want to get!!!)

I had a colonoscopy about 8 years ago and it was not nice. Though I was drugged up, it was very uncomfortable as they had to press hard on my abdomen to weave the camera through. I have only faint memories of it (it's like the Men In Black pen) but I do remember watching it on a screen.

Afterwards, it took me about 3 days to feel 'right' again. I also still can't drink anything lemony after taht stuff they make you drink to clean you right out. Uuuurrrrrggggghhhhhh..... [smiley=frown.gif]
