Title: Ladies! Need your stylish opinions :) Post by Lizzie2 on Apr 10th, 2008, 7:50pm This will be a random one! So next month I'm going to my boyfriend's brother's wedding. The wedding is actually on the beach (the bridal party isn't wearing shoes) in the afternoon, but I'm not exactly sure what time the reception is. (Boyfriend got the invitation, and he can't remember - so I'm waiting until he asks his mom.) Today I went dress shopping for something to wear, and I ended up coming home with 2 dresses - both completely different from one another! I'll take votes on who thinks which dress is better for this wedding! The wedding is in North Carolina. Dress #1: http://content.shopmay.com/images/ltgifts/product/detail/429/02264794_D1.jpg Dress #2: http://anntaylor.scene7.com/is/image/anntaylor/AMR3832M?$outfit212x399$ Thanks for your help! hehe I'm not entirely sure if dress #2 is too formal for a beach wedding, but at the same time, I'm sure it would be fine for the reception. #1 is a beach-ier type dress, but... I just can't decide!! Hugz, Carrie :) |

Title: Re: Ladies! Need your stylish opinions :) Post by E-Double on Apr 10th, 2008, 7:59pm Obviously not a chickie but I am a stylin' dude :D 8) It depends what day and time of day. If an afternoon I would choose the 1st but if twighlight then onto an affair I would choose the 2nd. I must say that I wouldn't wear either as I am a bit to broad shouldered ;;D |

Title: Re: Ladies! Need your stylish opinions :) Post by midwestbeth on Apr 10th, 2008, 8:02pm Wear dress #1 to the wedding and dress #2 to the reception :) I like them both. Have fun at the wedding! Beth |

Title: Re: Ladies! Need your stylish opinions :) Post by Lizzie2 on Apr 10th, 2008, 8:07pm Brian - um...thanks? :) E-Dub - I agree with you. I need to find out the timing of the reception! The guys in the wedding party are wearing khakis and white shirts, no shoes on the beach. Jason thinks the wedding itself is in the afternoon, but I don't know the time of the reception, so I need to find this out. I should also probably find out what Jason's sister is wearing, since she isn't in the wedding party and is just a few years younger than me. Beth - I like the way you think! However, my piggy bank started crying at the idea! :-P Hugz, Carrie :) |

Title: Re: Ladies! Need your stylish opinions :) Post by Jackie on Apr 10th, 2008, 8:30pm #2 Dress it down for the wedding with your shoes (if you wear any), handbag and jewelry. Then dress it back up for the reception...maybe adding a little shawl. It's better to be a bit overdressed rather than underdressed..... ;) Have fun! Much love, Jackie |

Title: Re: Ladies! Need your stylish opinions :) Post by cash5542 on Apr 10th, 2008, 8:38pm OK Carrie we may be no help. Lisa is sitting looking over my shoulder saying #1 and I was going to say #2 BUT I kind of think she may be right. We live at the beach and see lots of beach weddings, especially one of the pools she guarded at. They do tend to be pretty casual. The older people still dress up pretty much but not so much in your age bracket. You could also reverse Jackie and dress it up a bit for the reception if you felt to casual. It depends where the reception is too. Some move it to a nice restaurant and others have had big beach picnics. I like your idea of talking with his sister. Charlotte and Lisa (who both live for the beach!!) |

Title: Re: Ladies! Need your stylish opinions :) Post by Melissa on Apr 10th, 2008, 8:39pm I love #1, has a nice Spring feel to it. :) Have a great time! |

Title: Re: Ladies! Need your stylish opinions :) Post by Charlotte on Apr 10th, 2008, 8:57pm I like #2, but as long as you take your shoes off, either would be good. I live in an agricultural area and never see the beach, so my judgement is probably off. Charlotte |

Title: Re: Ladies! Need your stylish opinions :) Post by purpleydog on Apr 10th, 2008, 8:58pm Dress # 2 definitely, Carrie, you will look great in it, and what Jackie said. It's perfect for dressing up and down as needed. Have fun!! |

Title: Re: Ladies! Need your stylish opinions :) Post by midwestbeth on Apr 10th, 2008, 9:09pm Ok....since both aren't in the budget, I vote for #2. I also like Jackie's idea. Beth |

Title: Re: Ladies! Need your stylish opinions :) Post by starlight on Apr 10th, 2008, 9:30pm I like them both but I would say #2--I think the material will flow better on the beach with wind and such--you will FEEL better in it on the beach I think--plus it's more formal and that is always a good thing--can't go wrong that way. Have fun! |

Title: Re: Ladies! Need your stylish opinions :) Post by Lizzie2 on Apr 10th, 2008, 9:43pm #2 it is!! I just found out that the wedding is at 4pm, 15 minute ceremony, then cocktail hour, then reception is a sit down dinner from 5-9pm. I don't think the green one is dressy enough for the reception timing. However, I do like Jackie's idea to dress the navy one down for the wedding and up for the reception. I actually have some dressy shoes and a dressy purse that I could use for the reception (silver, close-toed shoes), and I could get some little sandal-y shoes for the actual wedding. Jason said to bring flip flops! :) But now I'm biting my lip and trying to decide if I can afford to keep the green one for the rehearsal dinner! It really is more than I planned to spend, but I love wearing dresses! haha As of right now, I am planning to wear black pants and a black/white short sleeved top from NY&Co to the rehearsal dinner. I bought the outfit back in March to go out for Jason's birthday, and I think it's about the right level of dressiness for the rehearsal dinner. But part of me really wants to keep the green dress too! Will have to balance the checkbook and see....... :-P Thanks for the advice!! I promise to post pics after the wedding! The wedding is May 10 down near Myrtle Beach, NC. I'm excited to be going!! Hugz, Carrie :) |

Title: Re: Ladies! Need your stylish opinions :) Post by Lizzie2 on Apr 10th, 2008, 9:53pm OK so these are horrid pics of me, but when I was in the store trying the dresses on, I took pics with my camera phone to send to my mom to see what she thought of the dresses. It's hard to dress shop by yourself!! Mostly because there is nobody to help you zip up the damn dresses! haha So here are the pics of me in the two dresses: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2059/2404738116_5b180412e5.jpg?v=0 http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2201/2403911655_1ae4a2afd3.jpg?v=0 I think #2 is the right choice afterall! Just have to decide about the rehearsal and the checkbook thing now... I never buy stuff for myself really, so I shouldn't feel too badly, but I've been saving up for when I am out of work for the stimulator surgery (which is supposed to be soon, but the new battery is still not out so probably will not be in a week and a half as planned!) Hugz, Carrie :) |

Title: Re: Ladies! Need your stylish opinions :) Post by cash5542 on Apr 10th, 2008, 10:10pm Good choice, especially because it is a night sit down dinner reception. I think the 2nd one looks the best on you too! If you can swing the green one you will probably get some more use out of it over the summer too! Splurge, you deserve it after that wonderful award you received!!! Charlotte |

Title: Re: Ladies! Need your stylish opinions :) Post by sandie99 on Apr 11th, 2008, 3:05am I like #2 a lot, so I'm glad that you chose that one. You look great in it! :) In general, I've been thought the very same thing which Jackie mentioned: it's better to be overdressed than underdressed. Have lots of fun at the wedding! :) Sanna |

Have fun and remember the cardinal rule - PICS! |

Title: Re: Ladies! Need your stylish opinions :) Post by Jackie on Apr 11th, 2008, 5:54am Good choice, Carrie.....I like #2 on you the best. Consider a little shawl for the evening....they are very stylish and so 'in' right now. Of course it has to be just the right one... You'll look lovely. And what Helen said....."Pictures" :) Love ya, Jackie |
