Title: Thank you Jonny
Post by Annette on Mar 29th, 2008, 7:21pm

A little while ago Jonny posted pics of his stainless and brass railings and we were all impressed with his talent and dedication to the work.

Out of curiosity I PMed Jonny asking more about how he does it, how dangerous can the work be and how much effort is required for such master piece. Jonny was very kind and patient, he explained everything to me as well as sent me various pics to illustrate his points.

I showed them all to my two boys who are 12 and 8 years old. They were also impressed as to how beautiful crap metals can turn out to be and how much work was put in. I thought the kids just enjoyed the pics and that was all until something happened yesterday that made me realise how lessons in life can be learnt in such a subtle way.

We went to dinner at a hotel where they had similar railings. While waiting for our tables I saw my older boy talking to another kid. This youngster was smearing chewing gum onto the rails. My boy Edwyn walked up to him and told him to stop it as " you have no idea how much work is put into that, to make it as nice as you see it now ". The other boy sheepishly removed the chewing gum and left.

Thank you very much Jonny for sharing your work and your story. It has helped taught my boys about work, dedication and respect.

:-*

Thanks everyone for your kind words  :-*

I am humble really by the experience. What goes around does come around, often in the most unexpected manners.  :)

Keep doing the good work as you never know how far the ripple effect can go.

Heres a good tip to remember......Never ever use a hand railing unless you are going to fall and break your neck.........the guy before you could have just jerked off.....LOL  ;)

The same goes for door pulls, if it opens out grab the handle from the bottom (everyone grabs the top) and if it pushes out use the glass to open it.

You could eat off my rails, but once they leave my shop you are on your own as to what scum there is on them......LOL  [smiley=grin2.gif]

Just a thought!

yeah Jonny you are right, who knows were those hands have been before you  :( ewwwwww! LOL!
same goes for bathroom doors in public places  :P..

Annette, you are teaching your children to be good citizens you should be proud of them...

yesterday we went to Target and in the way out there was a car parked next to us, they were just arriving and this kid (about 12 y.o.) came out carrying a McD shake, He poured wahtever was left of it and throw the glass in the floor right by our van...

I gave him my dirty looks but my daughter was faster and yelled at him: "hey you dirty boy, you have no manners! trash goes in the trash can!"
The boy and his mother turned to us but they just kept walking...you can bet how their home looks like...

I can't stand dirty and unconsidered people  >:(..and for what I can see my daughter neither  :)

LOL Jonny ! Thanks for the mental pictures ..   ;;D

Lets just say such work of art once publically displayed should only be admired from a safe distance huh ?  ;)

The only time I use hand railing is when I am wobblying on some killer stilleto without my mans arm to hang onto !

Rosy, I think its wonderful that your daughter spoke up to that irresponsible boy ! I hope that made him and his mother think a bit more about his action.

Your daughter sure is a great kid and she takes such pride in the things she does such as that beautiful cake you posted a few days ago. It was great to see her beaming smile !  :)

Children learn a lot from observing us adults. They pick up on our attitudes and non verbal actions more than what we try to teach them directly.

Yeah Jonny...the rails are nice. Ever check out Ebay for layout tools?
I just copped-up on a Starrett 12" combo square with 90 degree head and centering head for $41 !!!

Am trying to win a 6" combo square this week for maybe $28.

Really good deals considering a 12" Starrett 4r ruler, head & centering head retail new for somewhere in the neighborhood of $175 !!!!

If you have a spare "curv-o-mark" you want to sell, lemme know. I lost mine and am looking to bid on a new one.
Cheers, Dave

Good grief Jimmers, the only time a lady lifts her stilleto off the ground is to ... kick someone in the shin ! not to have photos taken !  :P

The railings were beautiful, and kids today have no respect for other's belongings. You should be proud of your children.
