Title: MP3 Post by Charlie on Mar 19th, 2008, 11:58pm No...nothing fancy. I need a MP3 player of some kind so I can get a few old radio recordings and play them. I have zero knowledge of these things and just need something where I can insert a disk and play it though my headphones. I have no use for nor understand IPOD stuff or the like. I'm wondering if because what I want is so simple that I can find one cheap somewhere? Thanks. Charlie |

Title: Re: MP3 Post by DragonSlayer on Mar 20th, 2008, 3:31am Charlie if your computer has a cd drive you probably have MP3 player software on your puter already. Assuming you have Microsoft (windows) operating system: Insert the disk click on my computer click on your cd drive icon click on the file you want to listen to You will need to have a sound card in your computer and speakers or you can plug a set of head phones. Here is a link to free MP3 player software: http://www.winamp.com/player Others may have a preference for another player but this should do what you want. Just download the free version. Hope this helps! I have about 2 Gig of old radio brodcasts "Jonny Dollar", "Barrie Craig", "Richard Diamond". |

Buying music from iTunes is a different story. And it only lets you duplicate each track 7 times. |

Title: Re: MP3 Post by Charlie on Mar 20th, 2008, 3:29pm I appreciate it kids but what I need is a player like my portable CD player that I can plug in next to my recliner and listen to with my earphones. I love listening to stuff this way as it acts as white noise and puts me out after a few songs. Sometimes I actually listen though. Charlie |

Title: Re: MP3 Post by brewcrew on Mar 20th, 2008, 3:35pm But Charlie, you'll need a way to get the music onto that portable player, and that's going to be your computer. The mp3 player merely acts as a sattelite of the software that's on your computer. So you have to start thinking in those terms: Music onto computer, then onto the sattelite. Any of the aforementioned programs should do it for you. |

Title: Re: MP3 Post by Charlie on Mar 20th, 2008, 3:43pm Suppose I buy an MP3 recorded disk of some old radio stuff. That's what I'm talking about. Charlie |

Title: Re: MP3 Post by brewcrew on Mar 20th, 2008, 3:50pm Now you're losing me. "MP3" implies (to me, at least) that the media is in electronic format. In other words, an mp3 file can exist on your hard disk, on a CD, in your iPod, etc. If you buy a disc that has mp3 files on it, I THINK you should be able to play it in a regular old personal CD player (one that you can run on batteries or off an AC converter). Am I getting close? |

Title: Re: MP3 Post by Peppermint on Mar 20th, 2008, 4:02pm Hi Charlie.. I think I know what you mean. Some CD players don't allow playback from CDRW, mp3, etc. I got one like this for my mom for Christmas, she also doesn't want to be bothered with digital formats, but if we make CD's for her from our mp3 collections.. she can play them. http://www.target.com/Portable-AM-Radio-MP3-Player/dp/B000I5JTU4/sr=1-11/qid=1206043125/ref=sr_1_11/601-4350045-3943359?ie=UTF8&index=target&field-browse=1038598&rh=k%3Aplayer&page=1 That might be along the lines of what you're looking for... Title: Re: MP3 Post by DragonSlayer on Mar 20th, 2008, 4:09pm Maybe this will help. http://static.howstuffworks.com/gif/mp3-cycle.gif MP3 is the compression format used to make audio files smaller. You are looking for a portable device to replay that file format. Some will play the .mp3 file from a cd and others will play the stored .mp3 file from a flash type memory card (the flash memory may be internal or removable media). Here is a link explaining portable MP3 players. http://www.howstuffworks.com/mp3-player.htm |

Title: Re: MP3 Post by Charlie on Mar 20th, 2008, 6:18pm Thanks for the link. I did take a look at ebay when I began looking but I wasn't sure what I was looking at. There's just too much information for me. This one makes some sense. I didn't see this one. Mostly, I got mixed up with IPOD stuff which isn't what I need. You guys are terrific! Charlie |
