Title: So how are you going to spend your

"spur the ecomony" check?

I'm looking at a whopping $300.00 check to help spur the economy.

What will I spend it on?....................my doctor bills.

Guess I'm not helping much, but that's whats most important.

I'll use part of it to pay the semi-annual property taxes.

There's something satisfying about using an unearned tax credit to pay an artificially inflated tax assessment, calculated at the height of the real estate bubble.

Bet the assessment doesn't go down next year.

Best,

George

I don't plan to "spend" it per-say.  My plans are to put it aside and start an emergency fund in case I find myself, as many are these days, out of work and looking for a job.  Also plan to set aside a portion of my commissions (if and when I earn them) for the same purpose.  I'm  cutting back on non-essentials too to help with saving this.

I personally dont think it will do a whole lot to move the economy. I, like everyone I know, will simply use it to help keeps my power bill or internet bill payed up.

I dont plan on spending it to buy durable goods.

The thing that chaps my ass, if I read it correctly, is that people who dont even work could be getting some money back.
How can you get money "back" that you never put in???

Also, why should people who make 75K & up be excluded?
People who make 75K+ pay a ton of taxes. Certainly much more than someone making 30K...right?

So why do they get cut out? Doesn't seem at all fair to me.

The way I understand it is that none of us put anything in to get this money, its just free money!

Groov - right on the head man - 100%!!!!!!

What I didn't get is this - they also mention a credit for qualifying children or some such thing. Well, I am in the income bracket that will not be getting a check because "I make too much" but I also have 2 kids.

So will I get any money back, for the "kid credit"?

I could have read more I suppose but the bottom line is I really don't give a crap. It isn't going to move the economy any more than the last 300 buck one did and they will just "need" it back in the future and find some secret way to take it back.

I learned something troubling: The government is borrowing this money to distribute to us.

I think it's $75K for single filers, $150K for married filing jointly (the caps), and then kids get added on top of that.

Not 100% sure, though.

Brew - are they borrowing the money itself, or are they borrowing the money to distribute the checks? if you catch my meaning.

I thought they were borrowing the money to distibute the checks (for printing and mailing, ect.) but I could be wrong - I have not paid real close attention but I thought that is what I heard.

If the money they are giving out is indeed borrowed that is really troubling.....

They're borrowing the funds that get distributed. And, the way I understand it, if mom and/or dad don't qualify, neither do little jimmy and/or suzie.

"2) Married, no children, filing separately; both have valid SSNs"

WTF is up with that??!!!!!

Not 100% sure, though.

That is correct Brew.

Jonny....LOL  ;;D

Hawk, sorry you're getting the screws. If it is gonna be one of those "you don't need it" things....then I should be eliminated as well.
I don't actually "need" it either. I'm not in financial trouble. Sure, the cash will be welcomed. But I don't like that "need based" thing. It should be distributed fairly. If you put in a ton, as you have, you should get something back..that is common sense and fair to me.

Brew, it is troubling to hear that they are not giving back money they possess. BORROWING IT !!!!!

SIGH, well....look at our deficit....sad.

So.. the Government is going to return some of our money to us but since they have already spent it, they have to borrow it?

Thanks you China for the geeters.

Common sense and fairness are not in the government's vocabulary. Neither is "borrowing money you don't have".

Mine is not going to spur the economy, even though the  State of Illinois not charging sales tax during one or two months this summer. To encourage people to spur the economy.

However, to make up for the lack of income to the state, they will raise taxes on cigarettes and liquor. And probably gas too. Morons.

That is what Brew is saying Steve.

Here is another thing that bothers me about this: "based on need"

Well who is to say?

A couple who make 150K where my Brother lives (in California) would certainly not be going out to dinner very often....likely at all !!!

Conversely, if that same couple lived here in the armpit of the Nation. They could own: 2 new cars, 2,000 sq. ft. home in a nice neighborhood, a boat and a slip at the local lake and raise a child and give him/her a really good upbringing (material-wise)

So, who is to say "who needs it"

Know what it is made to sound like? "income redistribution"

I would rather they take my money and start paying down the deficit they so recklessly have run thru the roof !!!
Yeah, sure & purple monkeys fly out yer ass  ::)

The problem with this rebate, is that if it were only given to those who paid in a ton of taxes, then this would be more investment capital.  Married and 4 kids would be 2400.00 that can buy more stock, but still not stimulate the economy in the way they think it needs to be.

Give the money to less savy people they will spend it willy nilly on luxury items.  Blue tooth, hair and or nail services.  Maybe even some erotic toys from the local adult store.

I don't know just a guess.

If I get anything I'm spending it all on Chocolate.

   Chocloate bunnies
        "           Ice cream
        "           m and M's
        "           Lattes
        "           cokes
        "           face masks

Then I'll heading to the ER for a taste of insulin.
