One of the great ones, from the Golden Age, and beyond.

Childhood's End...and Rendezvous with Rama....and many, many more.

Best,

George

Dave Bowman: Hello, HAL do you read me, HAL?
HAL: Affirmative, Dave, I read you.
Dave Bowman: Open the pod bay doors, HAL.
HAL: I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.
Dave Bowman: What's the problem?
HAL: I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.
Dave Bowman: What are you talking about, HAL?
HAL: This mission is too important for me to allow you to jeopardize it.
Dave Bowman: I don't know what you're talking about, HAL?
HAL: I know you and Frank were planning to disconnect me, and I'm afraid that's something I cannot allow to happen.
Dave Bowman: Where the hell'd you get that idea, HAL?
HAL: Dave, although you took thorough precautions in the pod against my hearing you, I could see your lips move.

I saw this movie when I was about 13 years old. Nothing like it since, and I remain affected 40 years later. See it in a theater, a regular TV diminishes the genius.

In subsequent interviews and specials, he reminded me of a REALLY COOL UNCLE.

He was a star on earth, now he is a Star.

Taman shud.

I like that sentiment Jon, a star on Earth and now a star. Says it all

I can here the voices speaking as I read this.

I loved A Space Oddessy  2001 but never really quite understood 2010  -   what were the  monoliths meant to be, were they seeking new planents to start new life?
