Title: Back from the Atlanta Nacar Race ! Post by HappyElaine on Mar 11th, 2008, 7:10am Oh it was fun and it was sad, and a lot of work. The weather sucked. Thursday was so much fun. We danced and laughed and the weather was GREAT ! Not to cold not to hot. Friday Morning about 3:00 am. Someone knocked on our door or banged on the door, they wanted us to turn off the generator. We would have but it wasn't ours. It was our friends. I wasn't about to turn it off. I think they turned it off. I couldn't go back to sleep. Then about 4:30 am a storm from hell showed it ugly head. I like to of froze to death our converter went out witch meant when the generator wasn't running we couldn't get heat. They make you turn the generators off at 12 am. You can't turn them back on till 7. When we were able to go outside we were in a river. We had to put down wooden palates to walk on from camper to camper. We thought our battery was dead so we went and bought a new one and ate out, we also came home and showered. Friday we didn't go to the truck race, Buddy doesn't care for it. Friday night we found out it wasn't the battery but the converter. We woak up Saturday to find it snowing like a blizzard. I was froze. I called the RV place and they sent someone out and we got the converter fixed. Cold it was so cold. We got on a open shuttle wrong thing to do. We were colder. Went to the stands I bought some things. It was to cold for us to go to the race. Hell we couldn't feel our butts it was so cold. We went back to the camper and watched it on TV. Saturday night we party hard. The weather was warming up. We ate smoked ribs and Bar B Q. It was so good. We ate a lot out there. From chile to ribs and Steak. Good eating. I slept all night Saturday night in a warm camper. Then Sunday all was good. Nice day and Buddy went to the race. I wimped out and watched on TV in between naps ;-) ! Sunday Night we all went to bed early. Here comes the sad part. Monday morning we got up and was breaking down the campers. Our friend have three dash hounds that travel with them. He open the door one came running out triped Fred and he fell on one of the other dogs. The little dog got up ran about five feet and yelled out and fell over dead. All of us was in tears. It was so sad, and our friend was really beating himself up about it. We broke down camp crying. Men and women. We were glad to get home and hug our dogs and see JD and Dev. It took all day yesterday to unload the camper, and clean it up. I was in bed by 7pm and didn't wake up till 5:30 this morning. On top of that none of our Drivers won. But I cheered for Jackies Driver. I wanted him to come in 2nd, I had a bet on him. I lost the bet he came in 3ed. Better than my driver he blew a transmission. It was a OK week end. I am glad to be home and warm ! |

I've been camping in April and about died of hypo-soddin-thermia (and it wasn't in a tent but a caravan so I wasn't exactly roughing it!) You're braver than me! I love camping in the summer time though, I'll be very envious of you then! |

We always camp out in March and Oct at the race track. Nascar moved it up two weeks. It is usually just rainy and windy. The weather just went from in the 70's to low 30' Went from sunshine shine to snow. I always like the Oct race the best. Nascar is talking about taking the Oct race here and giving it to California :-( ! We will only get one race a year if they do that. We only bought the camper for the race. We don't take it any where else it is to much like work for me any way. I like motel, maid service, going out to eat. Thats my idea of a vacation :) |

Post by barry_sword on Mar 11th, 2008, 5:47pm Elaine, sorry about the nasty weather you had and all that went wrong, especially your friends dog, how sad! :'( Maybe think about a kick butt Home Theater System . We watched the race in a climate controlled room, beer frig about 15 feet from the couch and food on the counter. I know it is not anything like being there live but damn I was comfortable inside watching it in 5.1 digital with the HD TV. Again, sorry about your weekend. [smiley=hug.gif] |
