Title: Daylight Savings Time (Change your clocks) Post by purpleydog on Mar 8th, 2008, 12:06pm Daylight savings time (already?). Set your clocks ahead tonight. (Why are we doing this so early this year?) |

Title: Re: Daylight Savings Time (Change your clocks) Post by nani on Mar 8th, 2008, 12:17pm We did it early last year, too. And ended late. I can't remember why, LOL. I don't like the dark mornings, but I really enjoy the longer days. |

Title: Re: Daylight Savings Time (Change your clocks) Post by LeLimey on Mar 8th, 2008, 12:20pm We don't change until the end of the month - I just wish the buggers in charge would all synchronise us together! |

Title: Re: Daylight Savings Time (Change your clocks) Post by purpleydog on Mar 8th, 2008, 12:22pm Yeah, it was just at the point where it was actually light when I go to work at 6 am. :P It'll lighten up in the morning soon enough, I guess. |

Title: Re: Daylight Savings Time (Change your clocks) Post by nani on Mar 8th, 2008, 12:24pm Visit Arizona sometime, Helen. The state doesn't change to DST, but the Indian reservations do. There is an hour difference, literally, from one step to another. :-/ I never know what time it is in Az... / because my e key doesn't always work |

Title: Re: Daylight Savings Time (Change your clocks) Post by purpleydog on Mar 8th, 2008, 12:26pm Indianapolis doesn't observe DST. My sister lived and worked there for awhile, she said it was a PITA going to work at 8 am and it was still dark... |

Title: Re: Daylight Savings Time (Change your clocks) Post by brewcrew on Mar 8th, 2008, 1:48pm I have never figured out why we don't all just use the same time. Greenwich Mean Time (or Zulu time) would be just fine. No matter who you call or where you go, it's the same time everywhere. Oh, that's right - more convenience and energy savings brought to you by the US government. |

Yep, it is, as a state. Indiana finally changed the law and started observing dst last year. We alligned with the eastern time zone (New York time) as opposed to the central time zone (Chicago time), except for several counties near Chicago, and also in the southwest corner. And, Pdog, you had it backwards. It used to get light in the summer at 4:30 to 5, now since we spring forward, it's 5:30 or 6. She must have meant it is still dark in the winter at 8am, which it is sometimes, but has nothing to do with dst. It's just because we are on the westernmost part of the eastern time zone. |

Title: Re: Daylight Savings Time (Change your clocks) Post by barry_sword on Mar 8th, 2008, 6:16pm It is a Canadian thing too, we are told it is to save energy by our Gov. so we know it is true. ::) I like the fact that we can BBQ now in the daylight, once I find it under all the snow! Title: Re: Daylight Savings Time (Change your clocks) Post by George_J on Mar 8th, 2008, 7:37pm I always have to remember to change only some of the clocks. A few of them change themselves. Things get a radio signal update, or something. In general, it seems, the ones with a clockface have to be changed, and the ones with a digital readout don't. But I can never remember which digital ones have to be changed, and which clockface ones don't. It always takes a day or two and a sneering teenager to get everything straightened out. When the kid finally grows up and moves away, we'll never know what time it is. Best, George |

Title: Re: Daylight Savings Time (Change your clocks) Post by cash5542 on Mar 8th, 2008, 7:43pm We are making daylight savings longer to save money but recent studies are showing that's not the case and we actually are using more energy! http://tech.yahoo.com/blogs/null/83073 My son lives in Hawaii and they don't change either. He is 5 hrs behind me but now will be 6. Charlotte |

I believe Indianapolis is still not observing DST, I speak to them every day, unless they just changed it. They are, however, an hour ahead of us. What I meant about my sister was that in the winter, it would be dark at 8 am, as opposed to just getting light here in Illinois at 7 am. |

Title: Re: Daylight Savings Time (Change your clocks) Post by deltadarlin on Mar 9th, 2008, 11:30am Can you imagine how these changes screw with our Circadian Rhythm? Our bodies are attuned to light/dark and when we start screwing with times, it throws our bodies off. I know my cats can't get used to it. They get fed at the same time every day and when we change times, their internal clock/bellies don't change with it. Lends to some interesting conversations between me and the furry felines. |
