Title: Formula One Season Opener.. (updated)
Post by barry_sword on Mar 8th, 2008, 7:26am
The Formula One Season starts this weekend. I do not follow it as closely as Nascar but when I saw the new F1 cars for the 2008 season it gave me a rush.

I added a link if you want to see some of the cars. I put the new ferrari as my desk top and it looks so cool! 8)

I'm following Red Bull - my two favourite drivers webber who I've met and DC and Red Bull - need I say more?! Add in a Newey designed car, the man who made Maclaren invincible in Hakkinens' time and they are a team to watch!

OOh God is it time for the race yet?! Qualifying today, racing tomorrow!!

All I need is Murray Walker back commentating and my cup shall runneth over!

I think the first race is next weekend (16th March)

Mike

edited to add - couldn't agree more about Murray Walker,
although I do like Martin Brundle

It is next weekend - I read that and then went looking for qualifying on the telly! LOL Then I realised I was all excited for nothing but on a plus note at least I hadn't slept through!

I agree about Martin Brundle, gotta love his pit walks! Murray was unique and he (Brundle) is too, just in a different way.

Ohhhh I can't wait!

I think Sauber are a terrific little team. Alot of good drivers came up through their ranks and the same with Minardi. Those two teams have/had a real talent for spotting future potential. Minardi gave us Webber don't forget and he is an amazing driver.

I like Maclaren too - I'm just not keen on ferrari but that is the legacy of Michael Schumacher, Ross Brawn and that bumptious little Napoleon frog  ;)

Schuey was for me one of the greatest talents and poorest sportsmen I have ever seen. He had a natural ability that was unequalled and the most despicable  cheating habits I have ever seen. I think it's a crying shame that his laudable races are overshdowed by his excrable bahaviour but there you go! What do I know?! He's the bazillionaire and I just play fair!  ::)

Sweet Jebbuz-

A real mental immage:  Helen with a baseball cap on (backwards) swilling a bud out of a bottle, eating a loaded hotdog and yelling in a funny accent from the stands "paas him ya bloomin auss"  as she watches the races!   :)

I like F1 too, but only because it gives me a chance to have a sneaky quiet snooze on the sofa while 'him indoors' get sucked into the race.

I'll have a gin and tonic instead of a beer you pleb and you can stick your hotdog - well - where it originated! I don't know how anyone can eat that crap ewww!

Baseball cap? Not bleedin' likely either!  ::)

As for "pass him you bloomin' auss" - it would be more like "shove him off the track!" Or "Put your foot down and give it some welly you steaming great WUSS!"

I love F1! :)
Too bad that back in here, if one wants to see it live, one must get one of those cable channel deals... :( Luckily Timo's brother-in-law has it, so every now and then during F1 season we'll visit Timo's sister and her family and watch the races together. :)

Finland is proud of its 3 F1 world champions and this season will be one of the most exciting ones! Can't wait to see what happends and who wins! :)

And naturally, we'll be cheering for Kimi Räikkönen and Heikki Kovalainen! :)

Sanna

P.S. My nextdoor neighbour back in Helsinki hates Michael Schumacher so deeply that she, senior citizen in her 70s, has promised to hit him should she ever see him... And the lady in question is non-violent one; she just didn't like the tricks Schumi played during his career.

Sorry guys for saying it starts this weekend, I was going on what a co-worker told me. I should have gone on-line for the schedule.
Again, sorry.  [smiley=bag.gif]

Sanna you forgot the son of one of the F1 Finnish champs ->   Nico Rosberg ( he is German Nationality) - son to the Flying Finn, Keijo Erik Rosberg - Keke Rosberg - F1 1982 World Champion
as a driver for Frank Williams.

I'm just not keen on ferrari but that is the legacy of Michael Schumacher, Ross Brawn and that bumptious little Napoleon frog

It also seems that if Ferrari can't win on the track, they will find every means possible to win off it.]

Michael, I didn't forget Nico... I just left him out, because he doesn't represent Finland anymore. You're right, Nico's dad is Keke Rosberg, our very first F1 Champion, so Nico's roots are partly in here, even though he's representing Germany (Nico's mother is German) these days.

Nico has both Finnish and German passports and he has represented Finland in the past. He speaks German better than he does Finnish and feels more German than a Finn, so I can understand his choice, although lots of other Finns think it's bit odd that he changed his mind about representing Finland after so many years. Once F1 circus begins, Nico's successes and failures will be reported with interest in here as much as ever though.

So F1 season 2008 has begun! We watched a short broadcast from the race. All 3 Finnish/Finnish related drivers made it to the top 8, not bad start! ;)

Congrats for all 3 of your Finnish drivers Sanna! [smiley=thumb.gif]

I already saw the results but they are re-airing it here in Canada right now and it looks and sounds pretty good as they are broadcasting it in HD format!! 8)

That was a very exciting race. Did you hear how flat sounding Raikonen's Ferrari sounded before it let go?

Now to change gears and get ready for Nascar at Bristol at 1:30pm. My fav short track. 8)

There's just not nearly enough F1 in the USA. I get a little splash of it on the Speed channel, or a quick mention on ESPN. Bleh, I couldn't even tell you who drives for what team anymore. I'm so out of the loop.

Perediablo you are SOOOO not endearing me to the US y'know!

It was pretty much a usual season opener wasn't it? More engines failing than finishing! Just totally gutted here that even with Ruben's disqualification my beloved DC still didn't make it into the points and neither did Webber - very disappointing race for them both poor sods, 'specially Webber on his home turf. I remember him coming in 6th for Minardi in his first ever race which was in Melbourne obviously - it was magic. I was over the moon for him even then.

Oh well - on to the next one!
