Title: Tentative Surgery Scheduled Post by Lizzie2 on Mar 7th, 2008, 10:20pm Well, I saw my neurosurgeon on Wednesday afternoon (after a very looooong bad day at work), and it was a great appointment. We have tentatively set up surgery for me to get an occipital/supraorbital nerve stimulator in late April. I will have preadmission testing the week before. The surgery will be outpatient, unless I have trouble with the anesthesia or surgery that would require an overnight stay. Ordinarily I'd say that means I'll be going right home, but I have had to stay overnight after outpatient surgery before because of vomiting that couldn't be stopped. Hopefully, though, this won't happen and I'll go home the same day. We discussed quite a few things, but I won't drone on about it here! He is doing a few things differently to anchor the lead above the right eye since on one patient, the lead migrated back to the shoulder and required a 2nd surgery - so now he double anchors that lead, and I will feel a little piece of plastic under my scalp where it is anchored. No big deal, and it will be cosmetically fine since my hair will be covering it. The company that I am going with is coming out with a new battery which is due out March 22 as of right now. We decided to go ahead and schedule the surgery so that once the battery does come out, I wouldn't have to wait an additional 6 weeks to get on the surgeon's books - we can always push the surgery back if the battery isn't out for use yet, which is why it's a tentative surgery date. I will have to be out of work for at least 4 weeks, due to the nature of my work and the risks of the leads migrating if I have to do any lifting/sudden movements of my head. As my doctor said, you can't exactly plan when a baby is going to code, so I won't be able to go back to work until at least 4 weeks has passed. I'll have to use short term disability (after the 1st 2 weeks on all the sick time I have), but I have saved up and have a good short term disability plan. I'm excited and nervous at the same time!! Lots to be anxious about , and it is still a big decision to go ahead with this! I hope that this really works for me - I really need this to work for me. I'm due a break, I think! haha Hugz, Carrie :) |
