Title: Re: Sad Post by barry_sword on Mar 6th, 2008, 11:57am So very sorry Micheal, it is one of the toughest things to do. We have had to do this to four of our cats and it seems to get harder each time. From one pet lover to another. :'( Barry |

Title: Re: Sad Post by DennisM1045 on Mar 6th, 2008, 12:44pm Hi Michael, The true cost of loving and being loved by a pet isn't truly felt until we have to say goodbye. They love us no matter what. In the end we have to do what is right for them. ((((HUGS)))) -Dennis- |

Title: Re: Sad Post by Lizzie2 on Mar 6th, 2008, 12:47pm :'( I'm so sorry Michael. Our pets are the world to us - they really are. I read that poem, and it brought tears to my eyes, but it is so true. It is horrible that we have to make the decision at the end of life for our pets, but they count on us to be strong and to end their suffering. Your cat is at peace and in a better place now - I'm sure chasing all the mice that kitty could ask for up in Heaven! Hang in there... My dog is nearing the end, and it is so hard to think about doing what you have just had to do - you are very strong for making that decision for your cat. Much love, Carrie |

Title: Re: Sad Post by Theo83 on Mar 6th, 2008, 2:57pm I am sorry for your loss. Putting down a pet, in my opinion, is one of hardest things in life. At the same time also one of the most compassionate. My 18 year old cat was put down two years ago (and my golden retriever was recently diagnosed with cancer, so I am preparing myself) and while nothing makes it better, I found that reminding myself that completely out of love you you're willing to subject yourself to suffering to save your cat from suffering helped a bit. The ultimate form of altruism. Also never forget the reason it is so hard...all the love, happiness, fun etc. Again I am sorry for the loss! :'( |

Title: Re: Sad Post by purpleydog on Mar 6th, 2008, 6:38pm I understand how you feel too, michael. I miss my dogs terribly, it's been about a year and a half since I had to put them down (6 months apart). I had to put one of our cats down last year. Our pets love us unconditionally, they are always happy to see us, and bring us great joy and comfort. They are our friends for life, and I don't think we even quite realize how much they mean to us until they are gone. They become part of our souls. It is one of the hardest decisions to make, but the right one. I am so sorry, michael. My thoughts are with you. [smiley=hug.gif] edited for clarity |

Title: Re: Sad Post by jacquibim on Mar 7th, 2008, 4:43am Michael, so sorry to hear of your loss, it's true, our pets arae a big part of the family and they are so much more faithful than a lot of humans can be, I had to take one of my GSD's on his last journey the year before last and I was heartbroken - but not so heartbroken as my other GSD who was inconsolable. What everyone has been saying - you did the kindest thing of all, it's a hard, hard thing to do but it is the kindest act of all that we can do for our beloved animal family members, even though it hurts so much. My thoughts are with you |
