Title: Long & painful day + elephants??
Post by Melissa on Feb 28th, 2008, 10:32pm
Ok, this will be long, so please bear with me...

I had an OB appt. at 11:50am, so I took Eli to my Grandmas for her to watch him as I was getting an internal exam.  I went to my appt. and have actually progressed to 3cm dialated and 70% effaced.  BUT, my belly is measuring 43 weeks. :o  Soooo, OB wanted to get an ultrasound done to see what was up.  So they told me that I could get one done at 2pm, so I called my Grandma to let her know I'd be staying a little longer and then I phoned Jesse who said he'd come to the clinic after he was done with work (he's on 1st shift this week).

Turns out after I'm waiting that they now want me at 3pm instead as they can't get me in at 2. ::)  Ok, whatever, that at least gives Jesse time to pick up Eli and meet me there.  So they meet me and we go up to the 3rd floor.  In the meantime, after my exam, I'm contracting ever 2-3 minutes and they hurt.  But when I got on the table for the ultrasound, they sorta went away (or I just didn't pay attention to them).  I'll tell you though, the real fun started after I had been laying there awhile trying to be still so she could get all the images she needed.  She finished up, wiped my belly and then left the room and O.M.G.!!!  I wanted to let out a yell but no sound would come out of my mouth!  I was in SO much PAIN!!!  Jesse was looking at my belly and I guess Ava must have shoved her butt into my belly as he said it raised 2.5 inches.  After crying for a bit, I slowly waddled cross legged to the potty. :'(

After the u/s we had to see the doc.  Turns out Ava has an estimate weight of 9lbs plus I have excess amniotic fluid.  The excess fluid is a problem because if my water breaks there is a chance of a cord prolapse (where the cord comes out before the baby) and it could kill her.

Great.  Just fucking great.  Good thing I had a Xanax before I had my ultrasound.  Anyway, doc said that if I do not go into labor before tomorrow afternoon (Friday) to have an induction scheduled for Monday when she's on call.

Inbetween all of this Eli is driving both Jesse and I up the wall by totally misbehaving until 20 minutes ago.  I was contracting all the way home from the clinic, I thought for sure we'd end up going back to the hospital right away when we got home, but Jess drew me a bath and I sat in the tub for about 1/2 hour and felt much better.  The contractions had slowed down.

Anyway, about Eli, we went to McDonald's to grab something to eat as I hadn't eaten since this morning.  Well, ok, Eli was crying because he couldn't play on the stuff, but that McDonalds didnt' have any play stuff so all he could say was how he hated that McDonalds.  Then I don't drive 10 feet away from the place after we got our food and he has to pee.  So I get out of the car, put him by the snowbank and pull down his drawers. (you have to remember I'm contracting the whole time every 2-3 minutes)

Now we finally are on the road and about 7 miles from home when I turn a corner and the chocolate milk I had just opened for him slips out of his hand and all over the backseat of my car.  Oh happy day!

It is now 9:30pm and I'm not having contractions, but am exhausted.  Actually, my tummy doesn't feel too bad now.  Weird.  Eli is sitting on the sofa watching TV and Lily and Jesse have gone to bed about an hour ago.

Sorry for the book, but want everyone to know that Ava is OK, but it looks like I'll for sure be having her on Monday if nothing happens tonight as I don't want to chance anything.

Phew!

LYG,
me

Oh shit, i almost forgot.  Some crazy woman with a British accent left a message on my answering machine about elephants and their pregnancies??  Couldn't catch it all as it sounded muffled, but me thinks she's wacko. ;)

All I did was ring Mel and say it was Stork Central and there had been a little mix up. We had her down for a baby elephant so not to panic as she wasn't going anywhere for another nine months... figured THAT would get her going LOL

LOL, I thought my hearing was going and it was just me.  Helen needs to enunciate clearly and speak REAL english.

Wishing you and family well, Mel.
