Title: Explosion, fire in Waukegan, IL plaza Post by brewcrew on Feb 28th, 2008, 2:58pm From ABC 7 Chicago: WAUKEGAN, Ill. -- Firefighters from several departments are battling what appeared to be an explosion and fire at a shopping plaza early Thursday afternoon. The fire is burning at 1926 Grand Ave. in the northern suburb, a shopping plaza home to Tuxedo World, Cleopatra's Unisex Hair Salon, Cellular Concepts and a travel agency. Authorities reported there are several injuries. Reports of a structure collapse could not be confirmed. Authorities have closed Grand Avenue between Martin and Lewis avenues, and crews from People's Gas are on the scene because firefighters fear a gas leak. _______________________________________ BlueMeanie, Mr. Floor, any other Chicago area CH'ers - Any word on confirmation of injuries or casualties? |

Title: Re: Explosion, fire in Waukegan, IL plaza Post by BlueMeanie on Feb 28th, 2008, 5:22pm My son drove by that strip mall about an hour BEFORE it exploded. It was on the news when he walked in the door. I heard 5 people where taken to the hospital but that's all I know. One of the stores (play by play records) was one of the few surviving vinyl records stores around. >:( |
