Title: A little help from the musical headbangers?
Post by Pinkfloyd on Feb 27th, 2008, 12:52am
There was some discussion at the Clusterbusters conference about whether or not someone in Metallica has clusters.
Someone did some digging and came up with the following.

These are just a few of the lyrics;

There is a feeling deep inside
That drives you fuckin' mad
A feeling of a hammerhead
You need it oh so bad

Adrenaline starts to flow
You're thrashing all around
Acting like a maniac
Whiplash

Bang your head against the stage
Like you never did before
Make it ring Make it bleed
Make it really sore
In a frenzied madness
with your leather and your spikes
--Whiplash

Where do I take this pain of mine
I run, but it stays right my side

Now, I found that this song was covered by Metallica, written and published by Budgie back in 1971.

So, maybe someone in that band had/has clusters or someone in Metallica could have related to these lyrics...or.....there is no connection at all.

We're just wondering if anyone has any clues on this?

The name of the song is:
Crash Course In Brain Surgery

thanks,
Bobw

You are very confused my friend. The above lyrics were written by Ulrich and Hetfield and the song is called "Whiplash!" off of the first album, Kill 'em All.

Crash Course in Brain surgery was recorded much later, after the death of Cliff Burton. It was featured on the "Garage Days Re-Revisited" album.

Just to clarify.

Well, ain't THAT the truth ;-)

Thanks for pointing out the errorS of my ways.

What I ended up doing was cutting out a section of the lyrics list I'd gotten sent to me. Lyrics from 4 different songs, as I see now. That's what happens when you cut and paste things you aren't familiar with.

You'll see that the last two lines of lyrics I'd posted (above) are actually from Until It Sleeps.

Here is the entire list that I'd shortened. As you can see, there are several songs that have lyrics that could relate well to the cluster experience ;-/

With all our screaming
We are gonna rip right through your brain
We got the lethal power
It is causing you sweet pain Oh sweet pain
When we start to rock
We never want to stop again
--Hit the Lights

There is a feeling deep inside
That drives you fuckin' mad
A feeling of a hammerhead
You need it oh so bad

Adrenaline starts to flow
You're thrashing all around
Acting like a maniac
Whiplash

Bang your head against the stage
Like you never did before
Make it ring Make it bleed
Make it really sore
In a frenzied madness
with your leather and your spikes
--Whiplash

Where do I take this pain of mine
I run, but it stays right my side

So tear me open, pour me out
There's things inside that scream and shout
And the pain still hates me
So hold me, until it sleeps
--Until It Sleeps

Look inside and you will see,
The words are cutting deep inside my brain.
Thunder burning, quickly burning,
Knife of words is driving me insane, insane yeah.

Raven black is on my track,
He shows me how to neutralize the knife.
Show to me in surgery,
The art of fighting words to conquer life, conquer life yeah.

Now the wicked lance of fear,
Is driving from my heady mountain brain.
Crash course in brain surgery,
Has stopped the bloody knife of words again yeah, yeah, yeah.
--Crash Course in Brain Surgery

I do believe that the song Crash Course....was first done by Budgie.

One way or the other, there are a lot of lyrics from Metallica that could relate to clusters. Maybe they should be the Patron Saints of Clusterville.

(who is better with Floyd lyrics)

You mean like "All My Ex's Live In Texas?" Or, "I Got Tears In My Ears From Lyin' On My Back, Cryin' Over You?"

Allright Linda, sick country tunes you gave me a link to include these fine masterful works of art:

How Did You Get so Ugly Overnight?

What Made Milwaukee Famous Has Made a Loser Out of Me

You Ain't Much Fun Since I Quit Drinkin'

You Done Blacked My Blue Eyes Once Too Often

She Broke My Heart, I Broke Her Jaw

Now, I'm no expert sociologist....but there is a recurring theme here. Um...try giving up the drunk thing and your I.Q. will double to 2
  ;;D
