Ok heres the deal, from Thursday to (I think) March 6th the US Navy has an open window to shoot down this completely fucked satilite that might crash on your head. ;)

Heres the bet, I will take all bets ($5-$10-$20-$50) up to $200. You make the call on if they will get it on the first shot or more. Either way I will have to pay.....because I know not everybody will take the same bet.

They say its like hitting a moving bullet with a bullet.

Just to make it clear, you win nothing, if you win the bet I send money to DJ. If you lose the bet....you send money to DJ.....got it?  ;)

Given the fact that the Chinese have already done this, I doubt that the US will fail. They might - any space technology misses sometimes.  But the satellite is moving in a predictable orbit, and they can figure out when it will be where, and greeting it with a large explosion is not so tough.    

When every other satellite that fell out of orbit, NASA was telling us that the chances of anyone being hit were incredibly small - less than risk of falling in our home, or getting hit by lightning out of the blue when going out to get the mail.  I remember when Skylab fell, and it was probably much bigger than this satellite. Now, the military is so concerned about our health? When they coincidentally want to test an anti-satellite weapon?  Sure they are.

That's a tough call to make, some reports are saying they will be firing 3 missiles on the first attempt (if they choose to make more than one attempt).

$10 says they hit it with one missile;

$15 says they use more than one window of opportunity but will only fire once (iow, with the windows of opportunity that are present to them - the same time slot for the next week basically - they will only do ONE (whether with a single or 3 missile fire) firing but it may take more than one window to have 'perfect' conditions)

$25 says they will be successful with the one (whether they send up one or 3 is still unclear based on the info I've read) missile firing when they do it.

There I think that covers all options LOL.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Navy gunners in the Pacific were watching the sea and sky Wednesday, waiting for perfect conditions to take a kill shot on an errant satellite 150 miles above them.

They have just a 10-second window to fire, a Pentagon official said, and may not be able to take their shot on their first opportunity at 10:30 p.m. ET Wednesday.

"It's not enough to say 'no,' but we're watching the weather," the official told reporters at the Pentagon. "It's on the margin."

The cruiser USS Lake Erie will get one 10-second window each of the next nine or 10 days to fire an interceptor missile that will destroy the faltering spy satellite before it can tumble to Earth and -- possibly -- release a cloud of toxic gas.

The Pentagon said the window of opportunity to strike the 5,000-pound satellite opened Wednesday, when the space shuttle Atlantis landed in Florida. The Pentagon wanted to be sure the shuttle would not be struck by any debris from a destroyed satellite.

But the official said conditions have to be perfect, and that was not the case Wednesday with swells in the Pacific Ocean west of Hawaii running slightly higher than Navy would like.

The National Weather Service forecast 12- to 15-foot seas west of Hawaii Wednesday with a storm developing in the area.

The United States plans to spend up to $60 million to try to destroy the satellite even though there is only a remote possibility the satellite could fall to Earth, survive re-entry and spew toxic gas in a populated area, said James Jeffrey, deputy national security adviser.

"The regret factor of not acting clearly outweighed the regret factor of acting," he said.

Twelve years ago he was a college dropout goin nowhere and he asked me what he should do in life.  I told him that since he was only good at beer,baseball and nintendo and since job openings in his field were slim to none he should join the Navy and learn a skill,   Today he is thirty years old an E-8 Senior Chief with gold stripes.
 I kinda guessed that he was involved but he don't tell me nothin till it's over.
