Title: I hate nightmares :( Post by PollyPocket on Feb 19th, 2008, 8:32am It amazes me what our minds will come up with, and whenever I'm stressed, it comes out in nightmare form. (Frequently plagued by them!) Looking at a dream interpretation website, I've come to the realization that I am mentally a f'ed up mess. :o Our beast had a starring role too, manifesting itself in many forms- hurricane force winds, evil spirits, eyeless pigs and dead children. I really hate nightmares :( |

Title: Re: I hate nightmares :( Post by Angie on Feb 19th, 2008, 9:00am So Sorry Jen I have a special nightmare, it has been with me since I was a kid. It always catches me with my guard down. Don't know what the meaning is or if there is a meaning. It is very gory. Let me know what your research finds. Hugs to you [smiley=hug.gif] |

Title: Re: I hate nightmares :( Post by Emily on Feb 19th, 2008, 9:05am I also suffer from nightmares, particularly when I'm run down or anxious. I try to write down all my thoughts/anxieties if I'm feeling a bit het up in the hope that getting it all out of my head will make me sleep better. I'm not sure if it works, but I don't tend to get bad dreams when I've done it. It might help you to rest easier too. Sending you some sweet dream vibes for tonight. [smiley=hug.gif] |

Title: Re: I hate nightmares :( Post by LeLimey on Feb 19th, 2008, 10:35am I'll tell you a couple of funny stories about me and nightmares - it'll probably give Paul nightmares but he's a big boy ;) When I was with Brid and Barneys dad I dreamed I was being chased by vampires and the only way to stop them biting me was to bite them first.. so I sat up in bed, leaned over and sunk my teeth into his arm as hard as I could. He woke up and said "OW! Did you bite me?" but I had already laid back down and was nodding off so I didn't answer. We were out the next evening when I remembered it and asked him if I'd bitten him to which he rolled up his sleeve and showed me a perfect bruise of my teethmarks! It's probably no wonder he ended up battering the living crap out of me in hindsight! A few weeks after Jasper was born we were camping. Brid and Barney were sleeping in a tent with their friends and David Jasper and I were in the caravan. I was dreaming Andy was smothering me with a pillow (he used to do this) and the only way I could make him stop was to move my head to the side, try and take a breath and scream - so I did. I let out the loudest most blood curdling scream you've ever heard. Jasper woke up and started crying, David jumped up and stood on the bed in just his underwear to switch the light on shouting "whats the matter? whats the matter?" and I realised it was only a dream and started laughing. People were knocking on the door to see if I was alright, I was trying to calm Jasper in the middle of laughing hysterically and eventually everything settled down. Well sort of! I kept bursting out laughing remembering David standing on the bed all but naked and hitting his head on the roof and I couldn't stop. He was grousing "It stopped being funny half an hour ago" and even now, almost seven years on, I can't tell this story without giggling helplessly! I think the moral of the story is don't slee with me! ;;D |

Well, there's your first mistake. Dreams (including nightmares) are our brain's way of working out, through our subconscious, what our conscious minds cannot resolve. It doesn't mean your in a state of emotional, f'd up mess. I think you should be glad your head is working it out. Even if it is scary at the time. |

Title: Re: I hate nightmares :( Post by Tiannia on Feb 19th, 2008, 1:08pm Dream interpretation is a very difficult thing to do and typically needs to take many many more things into account beyond what you can remember from the dream. Depending on the way of thought of the interpretation, there are many different meanings for each and everything that you see. Which is why many Psychologists will Hypnotize people to work thru dreams, because there are many things that are happening in your dream that you will not remember upon waking but you mind does. and as Brew said it is your minds way of working things out. Nightmares suck. I've had many that I would prefer not to remember or ever have again. I'm sorry that you are having them. /huggs Tia |

Title: Re: I hate nightmares :( Post by Lizzie2 on Feb 19th, 2008, 3:08pm Hi Jen, Sorry you are having nightmares!! I really hate them too - and as Rosy said, especially the ones where someone I loved has died. From those, I have woken up sobbing hysterically on occasion. I just worked the last 4 days - 44 hours in 4 days, and almost every night I had a nightmare about something happening to the babies at work - just different things going wrong. Each morning when I woke up, I hated those dreams because a. something bad was happening to my babies, and b. I dreamed I was at work after working like a madwoman all day long, which makes me feel like I never left! Hope you get to sleeping easier soon!! Hugz, Carrie :) |

Title: Re: I hate nightmares :( Post by Jackie on Feb 19th, 2008, 3:15pm Sorry, Jen.....nightmares are no fun. The only thing good about them is when you wake up and the reality sets in....it was only a bad dream. When I was a child I had the same nightmare over and over....it was about my step Grandfather. I didn't like him because he was mean to my Daddy when he was a little boy. Hope you start resting better, Sweetie.. Sweet dreams..... Jackie |

Title: Re: I hate nightmares :( Post by George_J on Feb 19th, 2008, 3:45pm Our friends Greg and Shirley have been married a really long time. Shirley's something of an insomniac, and Greg sleeps like the dead--if, indeed, the dead groaned and snorted in a horrible fashion. Only thing is, Greg's waking-up process is a mite hair-trigger--always has been. They tell us that one night, Shirley woke with a nightmare that upset her. In an effort to garner a little empathy, she got up and stood at the end of the bed, shaking Greg's foot. Greg looks down at the foot of the bed, sees a diaphanous figure in the moonlight, eerily saying....."Greg.....Greg..." He naturally sits bolt-upright, and utters an ear-splitting scream. This in turn causes Shirley to scream. Which causes Greg to scream once again. By the time they finished screaming, they were both out of breath. Nightmares suck, but marriage can be hazardous. Best, George |

Title: Re: I hate nightmares :( Post by Annette on Feb 20th, 2008, 4:30am Meditation and relaxation techniques help a lot with nightmares. The brain tends to continue whatever thoughts one has during the day into the night so try to focus more on relaxed, happy thoughts than anxious or worried ones. Praying and listening to soothing music before bed helps too. HUGS |

Title: Re: I hate nightmares :( Post by PollyPocket on Feb 20th, 2008, 5:05pm I just hate that this goes in cycles with me, once they start, for whatever reason, they can go on for a week or more every night, and the more tired I get, the weirder the nightmares become. And you're right Annette, seems every little thing I see or think of during the day pops up at night. People, conversations, tv commercials, then all get rolled into the most bizarre storyline- can either be very strange or very scary. I think I just need something to knock my ass out cold for a few good hours. Kinda snap me out of it. :-/ |
