Title: Good news again!
Post by Emily on Feb 19th, 2008, 7:56am
So last week, my OH PROPOSED to me!! :o Eeek! I said yes of course. So am in the full swing of preparing for a wedding in 1 year's time (which apparently isn't enough time).

Any tips for keeping the mothers in line?  ;)

Still PF - Em

PS - I am loving the Ava prediction thread and gutted that I missed out on submitting my own entry! Thinking of you lots Mel and hoping baby is here safe and soon!

Congratulations.

One word: elope.

If either side of the family is offering to pay for a wedding, tell them you'll save them 50%. Offer to take half of the cash they would have spent on a wedding as a wedding gift, go have a nice vacation, and save yourself the hassle of all that planning.

CONGRATULATIONS EMILY!!!!

how to keep MIL in line?

if you want their help just assign the task you want them to do for you and let them now that everything else is taking care of and be sure to say thanks. That way they will feel like they are participating but only to the point you want them to  ;).

Wishing you a worry free wedding prep time!

                                     Hugs

                                             Rosy.

Why no winter weddings? We've opted for the 1st week of March - hopefully the weather will be like it is now, but if it rains, we won't be disappointed.

We're going to look here next week - www.orchardleigh.net. Looking for the perfect place on a budget. Isn't it always the way!

Thanks for the lovely messages. Must get back to planning now!

Em

Only no winter weddings cos it's so flippin' cold! 1st of March is St Davids Day so very special in wales - you'll have to have a bouquet of leeks!

Hi Emily

What Brew said. Barry and I eloped January 13th 1983. Cost us 20.00 for a license and 15.00 for the ceremony.

Best 25 years ever. Best to both of you and have fun planning the wedding.

Mmm... A bouquet of leeks!! I'm sure it would be talked about for years and years!

Have you ever considered being a wedding planner Helen?  ;)

No real ideas yet, except that bridesmaid will be in black (travelling from all over the world so makes it easier!) and that I would love a 1940's cocktail party feel to the whole thing.

Any suggestions on how I can achieve that?

Ohhh so how about a glenn miller type tribute band or something like that? 40's would be a lot of fun all seamed stockings and bright red lipstick!

Theatrical costumiers would be a good place to go for idea's and look up menu's from then to keep it all in the mood. What about a tea dance kind of theme? Potted palms and stuff.

Oh and the best bit HAS to be mother in laws in gas masks!!

Em,

First of all, Congrats!

If you are on a budget like most people, one way to save money which has become very popular lately, is to have the wedding and reception on a Friday afternoon. Some of my friends have done this and it seems to work out quite well. And your family and friends can take a long weekend as well. Just a thought.

Good Luck,

Jimmers

My parents eloved as well, but they did arrange a small reception afterwards. But my mom still hears comments about the "non- wedding" from some relatives and friends of the family... ::)

Congratulations, Emily!
:D

My kids will be lucky. I have no desire to participate in any wedding planning. Just let me wear what I want and tell me when/where to show up. I'm not normal, I guess.  ;)

Enjoy your planning and don't let it stress you out.

You have to be ready for that. For the rest of your life. But who cares?

Many congratualtions to you both.

I have two daughters getting married next year April and August.

The daughter for August has the Church, reception and photographer booked already.

The daughter for April is still thinking about it all.

It all depends an how cool and calm you are.

As the mother of the brides and future mother in law of two I never classed my self as needing to be kept in line, maybe my girls will be asking the same question of someone else - oh well its my right to be "THE MOTHER OF THE BRIDE"

Hope you have lots of fun and joy planning it all

Thanks for all the messages! I love the gas-mask idea. Could be the only way forward.

Nani - I've told both MILs to do exactly that - wear what they want and show up when I tell them. It's ok for now, as I'm still only looking at venues, but wait til it comes to choosing flowers and my dress... It'll be a different ball game then!

I have found a beautiful vintage lace gown and love the idea of Pimms instead of wine/champagne.

Jimmers - Thanks for the tip. I called the place I wanted and to have on a Fri instead of a Sat was almost £3000 cheaper!  :o So I'll definitely be doing that instead.

Will keep you updated on the plans (and the dress when I find one!).

Em
xx

PS - Melly, my prediction is 27 Feb at 15.30 weighing 7lb 13oz and 18.5" long. I'll post this on Ava's thread too!

Congratulation!! Best tip I can give is be clear from the start. Let everyone know what you want from them and stick to it. Let your mom know how things are coming along so that she doesn't ask too much. One of my best memories is the day I went shopping for my dress with my mom. Good luck!!!

Charlotte
