Title: A coupla medical questions ch relatedish Post by Ree on Feb 7th, 2008, 7:36pm Hey has anyone had dental issues due to taking Nerontin or Gabepentin... ?do you know it causes dental disease...? I bumped into that by accident, on the net... Dave is having really bad issues with his gums right now and he was on heavy doses of Gabepentin which is generic Neurontin... Also... I just got a call from my doc, I have a vitamin D difiency! Now the more I read about it, it all makes sense... It causes headache... I was wondering if anyone ever had their levels taken and do they know anything about how much I need to take if mine is low... Weird... but my doc said now that everyone wears sunscreen people have vitamin D issues and that vitamin D can control some forms of cancer like breast and colon cancer... depression too and some headcahes. I'm hoping I will cure my Migraine... and make my world happier... maybe?! Ree |

I found this guideline for age appropriate vitamin consumption that you may find helpful. http://www2.oprah.com/health/oz/programs/young/solutions/solutions_vitamin.jhtml with warm regards, Tony |

Title: Re: A coupla medical questions ch relatedish Post by Woobie on Feb 7th, 2008, 8:38pm I am vitamin D deficient too. the RDA of vitamin D is..... Ages 19-50: 200 International Units (IU) Ages 51-69: 400 IU Age 70 and older: 600 IU and after my blood test, my doctor gave me pills that are 50,000 IU (not a typo!!) and told me to take one every other day. I've been taking them for 6 months... and the difference is amazing. I can tell when i dont take them. I do feel a lot better. I have a little more energy, and I'm not so stiff (i have rheumatoid arthritis... so "less stiff" is good for me.) :) I also take a multivitamin - that has 400 IU Vit. D in it - and asked if I should stop taking it while I'm taking the 50000 Vit Ds. He said NO. I guess he's serious about my vitamin D LOL. Anyway Ree........ take your vitamin D. You'll feel better! My doctor told me the same thing about sunlight. To me - sunlight is like everything else. Good in moderation. Your body tells you when you have too much and you get a sunburn. Just dont get a sunburn... smoooches to ya ree... and i hope it works for the migraines. woobs :-* http://healthlink.mcw.edu/article/982088787.html http://www.anyvitamins.com/rda.htm |

Title: Re: A coupla medical questions ch relatedish Post by Mosaicwench on Feb 7th, 2008, 8:39pm Drink milk with added A&D and get outside for an hour a day (of course if you live in a climate like mine you come back in as an iceberg). Like magnesium, D is best absorbed through the skin - or so I've heard. |

Title: Re: A coupla medical questions ch relatedish Post by sandie99 on Feb 8th, 2008, 3:34am Back in here extra vitamin D is added to milk, just in case. Basically, each Finn is recommended to take at least a 15 minute walk 3 times a week to make sure that they will get D vitamin dose (the one which we'll get from sunshine via skin), but because sunshine is scarce resourse this time of the year, vitamin extras are recommended. I checked my vitamins: I will get extra vitamin D with my calcium tablets and some more from my multivitamin tablet. Based on our recommendations, I'm getting enough. Sanna |
