Title: WOW! Post by Paul98 on Feb 7th, 2008, 10:39am Going abroad? Think about what you carry. Has this happened to anyone? http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/02/06/AR2008020604763_pf.html -P. |

Title: Re: WOW! Post by purpleydog on Feb 7th, 2008, 5:00pm I've not traveled abroad. Best thing to do, if you are not a blonde hair blue eyed person, is to back up, and wipe your drive(s), and clear your cell phone of all history. Man, that really sucks. |

Title: Re: WOW! Post by ski2k on Feb 7th, 2008, 7:31pm Never flown in or out of the country, but was chosen for "random" search the very first time I'd ever flown (about 2 years ago). Since I'm too poor to own a laptop, mp3 player, or anything like that, it wasn't too bad. ;) Think I'd be pretty pissed if they took one of those from me with no gaurantee I'd get it back! Adam |

Title: Re: WOW! Post by Charlie on Feb 7th, 2008, 11:14pm I never flew outside the country but I too was "selected" they said for random search. When I was told to do all I had to do, I added: "Please." They didn't like that and no doubt any form of politeness is foreign to them. It's all a part of our government's war on Americans in response to 9-11. Charlie |

Title: Re: WOW! Post by sandie99 on Feb 8th, 2008, 3:44am The worst thing I've went through took place last summer when Timo and I left London - we had to take our shoes off. That was ok, though, so I've been lucky. My dad would be in trouble these days, though. He used to forget coins and pens and keys and all other kind of stuff to his pockets and he was always picket for a search... Sanna |

I know what you mean about the Politeness Charlie. When I went to England last Dec. In Syracues I was pulled aside and damn near stripped searched. The woman that did the inital search was extreemly rude. It was like she was pissed that I could not read her mind as to what I had to do and she mumbled so I had to keep asking "excuse me?" because I could not understand what she said. Not as bad on the way back in Gatwick but still got singled out there and again from Philly to Syracuse. It is one thing to search for illegal items, guns, knives, drugs...no rpoblem with that but when the government starts reading peoples hard drives, cell phones that is where I draw the line. -P. |
