I never actually took the class, but my pre law friend had to, and we'd study together and quiz each other alot so we'd actually learn from each other in another field while we studied our own.  I got 100% as well but didn't want to brag... ;)

I got 100% as well, but one of my degrees is in philosophy, a requirement of which is four semesters of logic. I actually can't help myself when I take these - it's kind of programmed in.

OK Lisa got 100% and I just won't talk about my score! I kept thinking they were trick question and didn't use my logical thinking.

There is also a numeric equasion tha can be applied to this.

Assuming  A and B equals X...
then the question posed must equal X

If the question posed cannot equal X according the asumptions in A and B, then it is an illogical assumption.

Truth is not a qusestion here.  Its the logical extention of the proposed asumptions posed in the initial premises.

This is wehre reverse logic comes into play.  

Lets say that
a) all dogs bark
b) Charlie is a dog

Question

We can assume Charlie Barks.

Logic would say this is a valid arguement.

Then we have evidence.  Charlie is a dog who has had his laryix removed due to cancer, therefore he cannot bark.  An exception to the rule.

But yet the rule of logic remains.

But using the assumptions of your argument, if Charlie can't bark, he is no longer a dog (remember, all dogs bark). Therefore, dogs that have their larynx removed cease to be dogs.

Whether or not a conclusion is true has nothing to do with its validity.

Nowhere. I was reinforcing your point. But I was also pointing out that exceptions to the rule are not really a part of the study of logic.

Whatever the truth is in the real world, it has no bearing on the study of logic, where one uses premises to determine whether or not a conclusion is true.

We're singing from the same hymnal. I guess what I'm saying is that my comments weren't directed at you, but meant for the general discussion that has ensued on this thread.

Not in the study of philosophy I totally agree.  However in the disipline of Law and it's applications, (where I got my sidleine education in logic) exceptions to the rules of logic and the application of evidence, is the basis in the difference of a guilty vs innocent verdict.

Logic can only go so far.  Evidence reverces many of the rules of logic and proves where the premis is faulty. Therefore posing an invalid question to start with.

I was talking about the study of pure logic. While it can "only go so far," it is also vital in being able to show where arguments are flawed.

So essentially we are on the same page.  If the premis is flawed (evidence shows that that one or more of the premises are incorrect), then the logical conclusion is also flawed.  

Charlie is an exception to rule. Charlie is still a dog, however he no longer is able to act in the ways the premis dictates. This doesn't make Charlie any less than a dog.

Yes, we are. I was talking pure theory, and you were showing the application of theory. Both are valid. ;)

I had a philosophy minor in college...  Logic is cool, but epistemology is more uncertain, ethics is rowdier, and cosmology is out of this world.
