Title: Question... Post by Jackie on Jan 28th, 2008, 5:59pm How much water is to much? My son's girlfriend was told by her doctor to drink 1.5 gallons a day. Thanks, Jackie |

Title: Re: Question... Post by thomas on Jan 28th, 2008, 6:06pm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_intoxication Then I found this..... The kidneys of a healthy adult can process fifteen liters of water a day! You are unlikely to suffer from water intoxication, even if you drink a lot of water, as long as you drink over time as opposed to intaking an enormous volume at one time. As a general guideline, most adults need about three quarts of fluid each day. Much of that water comes from food, so 8-12 eight ounce glasses a day is a common recommended intake. You may need more water if the weather is very warm or very dry, if you are exercising, or if you are taking certain medications. The bottom line is this: it's possible to drink too much water, but unless you are running a marathon or an infant, water intoxication is a very uncommon condition. |

Title: Re: Question... Post by Melissa on Jan 28th, 2008, 6:15pm Would you believe after reading this thread I have a HUGE craving for water? I couldn't stop thinking about it after I first saw it so I went and got my big hospital mug from when I had Eli. :) |

Title: Re: Question... Post by Linda_Howell on Jan 28th, 2008, 8:27pm Jackie, when the "water treatment " first came out I did this. Quote:
By day 2....my kidneys ached something awful and I was told to stop and that it could be dangerous. I would think that too much water would flush any necessary vitamins and minerals out of the system too and not be a thing that would be good for us. |

Title: Re: Question... Post by sandie99 on Jan 29th, 2008, 11:04am It depends also about what kind of life one leads; drinking lots of water means also visit the toilet/rest room ever so often and with some professions it's not always that simple. Sanna |

Title: Re: Question... Post by Charlie on Jan 29th, 2008, 9:22pm I've read or heard lately that unless there is some unusual situation, drinking what you want is about right. It was probably a PBS Nova or Frontline thing. Just thought I'd add it to the thread. Charlie |

Title: Re: Question... Post by DonnaH_again on Jan 29th, 2008, 9:31pm I've recently heard that the medical society now advises that we drink only what we want. There's no set amount. When you feel thirsty, you are becoming dehydrated. Also, I second what Linda says about flushing out necessary nutrients. edited to add.........unless the doc makes the recommendation for a medical condition (?). |
