Post by Melissa on Jan 28th, 2008, 3:36pm
Let's compare 2 pictures.  The first is my belly at 32 weeks 4 days, the 2nd one I took today at 35 weeks 1 day.  I felt like last night she dropped a little, so can you tell from the pics at all??

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/mfiltz/dsc06358-1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v708/mfiltz/DSC00422.jpg

I'm getting exicted here!!!

UPDATE: I wanted to start a BIRTH POOL!  When do you think baby will come and what will be her weight & height???

Looks like she has dropped a bit more Mel  :)

38 week is considered full term so fingers crossed it will be sooner rather than later for you. How is your bladder coping ?  ;)

Gosh, I am having a really bad day with spelling today  :P

Bladder is actually doing good.  I'm only needing to go every hour and a half or so.  Only time it kills me is when Ava grinds her head down into it. :o

I honestly don't think I'll make it to my due date, but we'll see! :D

This is to prepare you for menopause later on!!

Yes, I think she dropped a bit.  My son was head-up until the day before delivery.  He used to "dance" every day at 4pm.  It was excrutiating.

I don't know that it's necessarily that you have to pee more often, but that you better make a concerted effort to keep your bladder empty  ;)

Just the wear and tear on your now much older and less elastic bladder . . . . I sweat so much I never think there's any thing left to pee out, but sure enough!

Is that too much information?
:P

(edited to add) And since we have an extra day in February this year, I vote for February 29th.  8lbs, 6 oz and I'm still not convinced it's a girl . . .

Hm...

All this guessing about dates and weights puts me in mind of my most memorable faux pas.  (I've had a few.)

When my daughter was born, I was in the delivery room.  The obstetrician was an older gent with a calm and reassuring manner--he'd been birthin' babies for years, and he was pretty cool about the whole thing.

Everything went fine, and when he handed El to me, he asked me if I wanted to guess how much she weighed.

I hefted her, and said, "Six pounds, four ounces."

He was stunned.  "That's exactly right.  How'd you know?"

"Well," I told him, "I'm a fly fisherman, and she's just about the size of a German Brown that I took out of the Owyhee in 1987."

Turned out the obstetrician was a fly fisherman too, and we had just started to have a very satisfactory conversation about patterns, equipment, and the rivers we'd fished, when Liz interrupted.

"Would you two please shut the &^%# up about fly fishing?"

I've never been allowed to forget that.

Best wishes, Mel.  I'm sure it'll go just fine.

George

Alrighty then, is that it?  Anyone else want to get their prediction in before I print this off?  I want to put it into Ava's baby book. :)

George- that's a neat story!

BTW, I told Jesse a week ago I wanted to try a pain med free birth and he called me a treehugger. ::)  For some reason, I think that if I just listen to my body, go with the flow and let it do what it needs to do, then everything will turn out just fine.  I feel very peaceful about this when I think about it.

Here goes,  Feburary 16th  7lbs 12 ounces  20 1/2 inches long.

I was also a tree hugger.  It worked well.  That silly breathing technique works two fold; gives you something to focus on and after the three shallow breathes that longer letting out one relaxes the muscles that allow the baby to move downward.  Let's face it , Cats, dogs and anything that gives birth pants and all of nature can't be wrong:)

Oh, and yes, you have dropped.  Can you see ribs again?

rofl.  I was on bedrset and they stoped labor 4 times with my daughter.  By the time her due date came and went, I told my doc that she was just pissed off and decided not to come out cause he kept stopping her so many times.

I finally went into labor 7 days later, when they broke my water 15 hours later they asked if I wanted an epideral. I told them no that I have been dealing with it for 4 months aready and how much worse could it be?

Well a couple of hours later a doctor came into the room and told me to calm down. I told him to go F himself, and until he shit out a basketball, that he could shove his damn advise.  [smiley=stfu.gif] The nurse came in after he left laughing her ass off, becasue he was a tight wad and the head of pediatrics.    At this point another contraction hit and I squuezes Shauns hand and he asked the nurse. "Can you give her the epideral now before she hurts me?"

My sister went into labor with her 2nd kid and her husband told her to sit down and let him get a shower before taking her into the hospital. Because she was in labor for 10 hours with thier first so there was no need to rush to get her their so fast with this one. When she got there, she was to far into it to get an epideral.  After about 2 hours, Kevin was standing next to her bed and a contraction hit.  He looked at her and said "See that one was not so bad honey."  She reached over and grabbed him by the balls and squeezed and said. "See that one was not so bad."  He did not come into the room untli the baby was crowning and she yelled for him to get in there or she was going to divorse him.

The German in our family comes out rather nasty at times.  ;;D

I'm not trying to be a Mr. Smartypants, I just don't see why you wouldn't if you could, if that makes any sense.

Because pain meds affect the baby and the mother.  For example, I had a spinal block with Eli.  It ended up that his heart rate would drop with pushing and they had a hard time keeping him warm after he was born so we had to do a lot of skin to skin contact to keep his temp up.  He was OK after that, but the less interventions the better.

Epidurals can do the same thing, plus put stress on the baby from the extended length of pushing and cause a delay in dialation of the mother.

I'm not saying everyone should have a natural birth, some circumstances prevent that, but for me, if I am able to do it, I'm going to at least try.  I had a natural, med free birth with Lily and a spinal block with Eli, so I've had experience with both.

Well betting is closed so I can't count and besides, Brew picked my date and size. Both were exactly my guesses. My husband's birthday is Feb 19th.

I just wanted to wish you best of luck when ever it is!! You have a good head on your shoulders and will do the right thing with the meds when the time comes. I did 2 births totally different too. After trying with the first to go natural, I added some morphine mid labor, to my docs suggestion. Lisa on the other hand could have been born in a bed at home. It was so easy and quick!

We are all sitting on pins and needles waiting for little Ava! ;)

I so feel for you Mel!  Watch the lower back pain and general discomfort.  That was the majority of all of my labor.

Went into the emergency room and the nurse asked why I thought I was in labor.  I said "my back hurts"  They messed around and got me in and 1 hour after I arrived she was born. (without the Dr.)

Any dialating yet? It has to be the 19th cause Brew and I both can't be wrong, can we???? Sounds like it's gonna be soon anyways. Lisa did this kind of stuff, lots of labor signs, and ended up 10 days over due but by the time I got to the hospital she was just about done. I was 7cm. dialated. He broke my water and she was out screaming her head off in less than an hour.

Be sure to pack a camera!!

egads Redd, I really didn't want to post one cause of all the nasty stretch marks & veins on my belly.

Oh well, here's the pic.  I don't think my belly looks like it's dropped tho, I think it actually looks higher?

Alrighty, I feel weird tonight. :(  I'm having nausea along with acid reflux on and off, I want to take my pants and underwear off cause I'd feel soooo much better, I have an upper backache which I never get and am getting a little panicky.

Not only that, Jesse has to leave for work in 45 min. and the weather sucks!  He is taking his 1 ton to work, that's how crappy the roads are out here.  He also has a quick change tomorrow where he goes in for 2nd.  Ohforpetesake, is life going to go easy on me or make this difficult???

You know what?  I'm absolutely retarded!  I'm a clusterhead for cripes sake!

Having a baby can be painful, yes, but it's only for a short time and I get a prize at the end!  My cycles are 40 days long, getting hit 3x a night.

I can DO this!  It's only pain!!!!!!

*breathe Mel, breathe*

Mel, it's really going to be the 20th.  I did a little cheating and consulted my astrology books and according to the position of Pluto (the planet of elimination) there's a better than great chance of it being the 20th. LOL.

Anyway, the pic looks like the baby just turned around and is facing your butt.  Her butt is up against your belly button.

Theres nothing as exciting as the sounds of a new baby crying for the first time.  I was my daughters Lamaze coach for the first grandchild and saw it all up close and personal.  It really is a miracle.

I'm so excited for you!!

Mel that belly most certainly does not look higher, it looks BIGGER!  She is definitely done cookin' and by the sounds of your symptoms, I'd say we are in for an Ava announcement any day now ... errr  ... guess that's obvious huh? hehe.

You will probably get Jesse home in time to have him take you to the hospital in the morn and then have yourself a baby girl by noon tomorrow ;)

I'm no doc and no expert, I've as much experience as you and every other mother here, but I'd say that you are in the early stages and that Jesse wanted the day off tomorrow anyway right? hehe.

Keep us posted as long as you can :)  Hourly works...cause we are all on pins and needles waiting to know that Ava is making her debut!

Easy labor and delivery vibes to ya!

Cat

I honestly want to have this baby no later than the 19th TODAY because it's the last day she can be an Aquarius, but I'm sure I won't get my way.  If she won't come before then, then at LEAST she can come in Feb. so she can still have an Amythest birthstone.  Aquamarine just won't look right on my mothers ring next to Pink Tourmaline and Alexandrite.

Dang, I'm PICKY!! ::) :P

My husband was born 50 years ago Feb 19th in a snow storm! There is just something right about the day and circumstances. I'm not superstitious but it just feels right. His mom said she barely made it to the hospital because of the weather. He was the 4th child so it wasn't new for her. I just have a feeling about this and like I said before Brew and I both can't be wrong, can we?????

Charlotte

PS And don't worry Brew, you can keep the whole prize, I'm just backing you!

She will come out when she is damn good and ready.

But I definatly know the feeling of "well get the hell done and come see the rest of the world already, child"

he he

Eat what you want.

With my daughter , who was past due, I went to every New Housing Development there was and walked up and down every 2 story Model Homes that they had. Freaked the sales gal out when she asked when I was due and I told her a week ago.  She thought for sure that my water was going to break all over her pretty carpet.

It is, indeed, February 20th. I lost. I'm over it. I was going to have to split the $1.4 mil with Charlotte and aubmari anyhow, so no big whoop. What's $467,000 between friends anyway?

And Helen, you can keep your 19 + x theory. I am nothing if not a gracious loser. Now all I can do is pray for a healthy Ava and a happy and healthy (albeit sore) Mel.

and also to say that I think something is happening.  Last night was killer!  My belly hardened up really bad, so that was painful and then I had contractions on top of it everywhere from 9 to 2 minutes apart!  It wasn't until Lily got home from babysitting and I got into the tub that they finally subsided.  Then this morning I had, forgive the graphicness, actually bloody show, so we'll see if anything happens today!

This is a shitty waiting game but at least the prize is priceless. ;)

LOL, no kidding! ;;D

I must be honest with you though, I am sorta hoping she holds off for a few days so I can help Eli with a little problem he has again (I didn't follow through longer than I should have the first time).  I have an attack plan that is known to work and am excited about getting it going so my whole family can be good to go when Ava arrives!  I just need a day or two. ;)

OK, Goatee!  Brain bammaged, OH yeah, definitely.  But, sexy????  I'm gonna have to think about that for awhile.

I say, 2/27, about 8:00 PM, and Ava will be 17.5275" long  8).  If I'm too late to get in the betting pool, that's OK, my reward is that I will be correct.   ;)

If you want the contractions to start, eat a spicy pizza!

I kid you not.  With both of my daughters, my contractions started within 24 hours after eating a lovely pepperoni pizza, with onions, green peppers, cheese,, mushrooms, the works - what I call a "trash can" pizza.

I told this to my daughter, Amanda a several weeks ago, and she didn't believe me.  But, on January 17th, they ordered in a trash can pizza.  My granddaughter, Delia was born on the 18th.

You can plan Ava's birth by when you eat the trash can!

Mel, darling,

I'm so sorry about your ligament pain and that you are feeling so down.  Once Ava is born, this will all go away.

But, it's the 27th, and I said Ava would be here sometime around 8:30 tonight.

So?????

Ava ?????? Are you ready.

Sanna, this is what everyone tells me, but do you know what "soon" means?  Could be now, could be weeks from now.  It gets a tad frustrating at times for everyone to be telling me this!

I know you mean well, but you will understand one day when you're down to the last couple days of your pregnancy. ;)

I promise you, I will never say it!  :-*

love you hon

Soon seems to equal eternity in pregnancy time.  Take care of yourself and baby Ava until the arrival date.

Beth, I'm feeding Ava lots of chocolate chips! :D

As for posting that I'm in labor, ain't gonna happen, lol.  I'll be calling Linda and she'll let ya'll know.  Time is of the essence here as I'd have to wait for Jesse to come home from work and pick me up (30min, but 12min according to him if the roads are good ::)), I'd have to call my brother-in-law(s) or father-in-law to pick up Lily from school and bring her home to watch Eli, and then we'd have the lovely drive back to town to the hospital.  Now, if we can't get Lily home in time to stay with her brother, then we'd have to take him to my Grandmas and then go to the hospital.

I tell ya, it'll be interesting to see what happens!

BTW, after Ava is born and we are back home I'll be starting a seperate thread to announce. [smiley=grin2.gif]  Gotta get those pictures in there ya know!

hugzzz

my gosh! those are a lot of things to have done  :o...if Ava does not show up by friday, it would not be better to be induced this weekend? ...
your kids would be home and your husband would also be home to take you to the hospital...it is just my humble opinion...one thing less to worry about...

I was induced because I kept making trips to the hospital for 4 days and everytime they had me ready for labor the contractions were gone...they were 5 minutes apart and then gone!
the Doctor said by the time the baby decided to finally come out I was going to be to tired for it..so we induced and the baby was born still until the next day in the evening.. ::)

like I said..just my humble opinion...

Post by Melissa on Feb 28th, 2008, 12:11pm
Rosy- I'm avoiding induction because I believe in not forcing nature, even if I'm majorly uncomfortable.

I went into labor on my own with Lily and Eli.  Lily was 10 days late and Eli was born on his due date.  I have 2 due dates for Ava.  The first one is March 7th (going by last period) and the 2nd one is March 2nd (going by ultrasound dating).  Now the 3 ultrasounds I had pegged the due dates of March 2nd, March 1st and again March 2nd.  I'm not afraid to go a week past my original due date of March 7th, but it'll be torture, LOL.

This is my 3rd baby, 4th pregnancy.  My body has been through this before and I'm sure everything will turn out OK.  I'm just no good at the patience thing and waiting.  Just ask Jesse. :-[
