Title: Why is only bad news news? Post by karma on Jan 26th, 2008, 9:12am http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/football/ncaa/01/25/texasam.arrests.ap/index.html These stories are way to common but the individuals represent only a miniscule portion of the number of athletes involved in collegiate or pro sports. This kind of reporting ignores the people that are in it for the sport and go on to do great things in life or are just average joes who go on to live average lives. Why are the good kids and people ignored? Why has the media decided that all we want to read about is bad or celebrities fucked up lives? |

Originally created by Galtung & Ruge back in 1965, there are several factors which define what topics make it to the news. And you quessed it: negativity if one of them. Here's more about news values: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/News_values Sanna |

What happened to the drug dealer?? That statement implies they did a good thing IMO, however, as you read through the article it seems that they may have robbed him of his drugs... That has to be one of the most confusing articles I've read in awhile. I wanna know what the police did the drug dealer they mugged...I can't believe a drug dealer had the balls to call the police! Title: Re: Why is only bad news news? Post by Charlie on Jan 26th, 2008, 9:09pm It's as old as time. Good news won't generate enough interest to keep us reading or glued to the TV. The 99% of us that play the rules and get along with one another, can only stand so much of ourselves. It gets boring without drama and great drama in all its forms depends on the unusual. Be glad that it's this way. Charlie. 8) |
