Title: 2008 OUCH Convention Update
Post by Gator on Jan 19th, 2008, 4:40pm
OUCH is pleased to announce that Professor Peter Goadsby, patron saint of clusterheads, has just confirmed that he will be speaking at the 2008 OUCH Convention in Dallas, Texas!

More details about the convention coming very soon.

Even better, a live broadcast over the internet for anyone who wants to see.

This is very cool.

I recall a meet and greet at Dan (Magnum's) place where he set up a web cam and live feed from the family room there.

It can't be too freaking hard.

I'm totally serious. A virtual convention. It's easier than ever.

Mind you, I'm not offering to do it because I don't have the equipment, but I see it done here at work, where there will be a live broadcast over the internet, and the viewer needs only have an internet connection, a browser with the right plug-in, and access to the proper web address for viewing.

In this case, I'm just the idea guy - somebody else would have to execute it.

If this were the case... why even bother having a convention? I would imagine that Goadsby is not offering his services for free. If I understand correctly part of the convention fee goes towards paying the speaker fee. Why buy the cow if you can get the milk for free?

Can someone from OUCH help me out here... isn't that the case?

with warm regards,
Tony

Goadsby is a great speaker. Even at the neuroligical convention in Italy he was able to keep it at an understandable level for us dummies in the audience.

OUCH needs to set up that web cast.

Even if only small part of his presentation could be seen, it would be fantastic!

Iam not from OUCH, But if money is the issue then all that is needed is a secure website.

You pay a fee and then are sent a password allowing you to view the presentation, or down load a copy etc.

That’s how the medical convention websites I set up at work are done any way.

Can you say "Pay Per View?"

If showing the presentation will be too problematic, how about a transcript of the main points to everyone who wants it?

One Finnish neuro sent me his presentation as a power point presentation.

Tony, part of the attraction of the convention is the ability to interact directly with the speakers and ask questions.  In most cases, the speakers even have one on one discussions with convention goers after the lectures, which only heightens the experience.  Some even let their hair down and join the festivities.

Yes, part of the proceeds from convention registration fees go to pay for speaker expenses, but the convention is not JUST about the speakers.  It is the required Annual Members Meeting, which is set forth in the bylaws, and a social gathering for clusterheads and their supporters as well.

I can't promise a webcast for this convention, but every effort will be made to record the convention and at least make the highlights available.

Speaking of video highlights, I was just going through the video highlights of the 2006 OUCH convention.  Now I am homesick for my cluster family.

Take a trip with me down memory lane or see what you've been missing if you've never been to a convention:
