Thusly, no longer a secret.

Why should it be kept a secret? It would be good for DJ if every member here becomes an Alumnus because it will mean that everyone is able to chip in to help with the cost of running the site.

However, as Mel said, you can donate without the title being add to your profile and you dont have to read or post to any secret board if you dont want to.

ewww... look at the cryptic ad at the bottom of this page...
"WHEN WILL YOU DIE?"

Then look lower... see the pay pal button? Click it.

The secret message board is where all of the gala balls and banquets happen. There is a sauna, a health spa, a five star restaurant. Valet service and midgets in satin are everywhere.

with warm regards,
Tony

Nobody has to BUY an oar in order to row.  Lots of ways to keep the boat moving.

Some row, some bail...and a few drill holes in the bottom of the boat.

You know guys, I really wish I had never asked that question.

I don't think you know how this affects those of us who have been here for many years, supporting, being on committes and the board but couldn't afford to contribute, and now find out that there is a affluent society to which we do not belong.

I have never drilled holes into the bottom of the boat, sir.

Thank you George.........but the rest of this issue leaves me feeling left out.

Think about it everyone........how would you feel?  Seriously think about it.  Why would a donation earn you a special place on an exclusive message board?   This is not a trivial issue.......it hurts.  I no longer feel a part of this family. I feel like a black sheep.  I am hoping beyond all hope that someone has an explanation that desolves all doubts.

If you think I am being dramatic, you're disconnected from the real world.

An affluent society? I don't think that's fair, Donna. Simply a group of people who do what they can, when they can. You know, to help offset the cost of this precious place, that DJ would happily pay for on his own.

No one denies your valuable contributions as a supporter here at ch.com, or your hard work for OUCH (which you know, is completely independent of ch.com).

The decision to contribute to this site is rewarded by the alum status. Not everyone who hits that paypal button knows that in advance. The alum board is simply DJ's way of saying thanks for that.

This issue has come up many times since I've been here, so frankly, I'm a little surprised that you weren't aware of it.

I can't tell you how or what to feel, but I can tell you that there are many here who are not alums. Should they also feel as you do? Is the support, understanding and friendship not enough to feel like you're part of the family?
No one is excluding anyone... the decision to donate is completely up to the individual.

don't be sensitive, Donna.  It's not productive.  You are valued.  There are many ways to contribute.

I hit pay pal after one of the threads that mentioned it, so i didn't expect anything except to do that.  I do have a job, but I am far from affluent.

Affluent society my ass.

Donna, I think you're being overly sensitive right now and are making this out to be something way more than it is.  Just because you don't contribute money to the site doesn't make you less of a giving person than those who do.

I don't have access to the alumnus message board and that is the way I prefer it.  I feel like I'm not missing out on anything! ;)

Shit I wondered about it, but it never bothered me.  I have helped oar when I can. There is nothing that lets me help pay for this site. I never have the money, never have and most likely never will. But I do what I can, what what I have and any way that I can.

I dont fee like less of a member of this board because of it.

I had hoped that this was over with, but some want to continue.

I quess I'm the only one who believes that donations should not be rewarded.  I applaud DJ without reservation with what he has done for all of us.  I whole heartedly agree with supporting this site.  I never did feel it was fair that he did it alone.

I disagree with rewarding those who donate, whatever the prize might be.  This is a family, not a social club with rewards to those who can buy their way in.  Cliques are not for me so maybe I am better off on the outside.

You can call me sensitive if you wish because at this time I am........but it doesn't alter my feelings.

I'm sorry that those of you who have faulted me cannot see this.

If a few of you want to act like children, like bullies, go for it.  Make your jokes.

If you are not alumni and it doesn't bother you, that's fine too.  We are all unique.

If you think I am whining for nothing, get outside of yourself and look at it from a point of view that you would have if you were on the outside looking in.

One thing I have never done on this board is try to make someone feel uncomfortable.  I've always tried to understand..to support, to make allowances because we can't all feel the same and we are all entitled to our feelings, where ever they stem from.

You can and probably will tear this post apart, but please try to be fair when you do.  Don't mis-quote me or change the meaning of what I've said.

This is not just any post............it comes from my heart.

Many people donated before there was any alumnus board.  Because so many were being grateful, DJ wanted to express thanks, to show gratitude, to give more than he has already for those who gave.
As a webmaster/administrator, giving more can be an extra message board as thanks.  It is simply DJ expressing thanks, from his heart also.
Affluent society, special place, or social club exists only in the imagination.  It is an expression of thank you from DJ.  The man has received many thank you's, he just wants to give one back for thinking of him.
People express many feelings here, allowing DJ one would seem more than welcome.

This was what I wrote when I saw the Alumnus page, section or what ever it’s called pop up on screen & it took me 3 days to get myself together enough just to be able to say this.

Quote:
“What does one say when the person who deserves all the credit thanks you, you thank them back.
DJ thank you, I wouldn’t like to think where I would be if this site didn’t exist.
And boy I really am in great company here.

Kind Regards
Barry” Unquote

If I could find words that really express my gratitude I probably wouldn’t know how to put them together in a sensible sentence; All I know is that without the people here now those who were her before us and those who are yet to come have given us hope and if we ever loose that, then we have lost our soul.

To everyone, thank you for giving me that hope.
Barry

Donna,  the Alum Board really doesn't matter.  The poeple who need help, the newbies, are out here on the public boards.  It's where you can do the most good.

Funny thing is, there isn't one post on the alumnus board that throws tomatos at anyone here, not one. And bear in mind, its been in exsistance for over four years and thear are a total of 10 pages.

If you all must know, and which you can if you help support the site, this is what you'll find there on the most recent page;

-Topic is about cyberbullying

-Someone hurt themselves

-Someone needs a clustermasx

-Possible troll

-Someone is having a rough time with personal issue

-Good luck wishes on personal issue

-Someones needed personal advice

-Someone left there trex over someones house

-And lots of Ali or ChTom alerts

Now can everybody stop worrying about people backstabbing people on that section and either donate to the site to see for yourself, or quit your bitchin, and to be honest, you ain't missin shit, but it would still be nice if you could spare 5 bucks to help pay the rent here. Deej and I'm sure Steph, put thier own time into  this place to help keep this place running smooth and never say diddley about anything anybody does here.

Just sayin my peace.

I agree completely, I truly hope that everyone can spare a few dollars to donate to ch.com and help DJ out with the ongoing cost of running the place. That way everyone will be alumnus and can choose to read/post or not, anywhere they please.

Most definitely dont have to be affluent to do this, its not a private club where you have to contribute regularly or a large amount to belong.

Tony, how many times have I told you to quit looking in my closet!  I only dig out the satin for special occasions like Friday night in the chat room...

Ok, here is the deal.

The Alumni board was created simply as a way for me to publically say "thank you" to the people who've dontated monetarily to the site.  I didn't feel like a private "thank you" via email was enough... so the Alumni status and board was created.

The Alumni board was not meant to make people feel left out, or like they haven't helped make this place the community it has become.  I'm sorry if it has been taken that way by some people.  If it has offended you, get over it.  If someone does something for you that you really appreciate, don't you go out of your way to try and show them you really appreciate it?

I can't believe after all these years of having the alumni status and board this is becoming an issue.

An issue for one is not an issue for all.

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/alumnus

a·lum·nus
noun
plural  a·lum·ni
A male graduate or former student of a school, college, or university.
[Latin, pupil, from alere, to nourish; see al-2 in Indo-European roots.]

Usage Note: Alumnus and alumna both come from Latin and preserve Latin plurals. Alumnus is a masculine noun whose plural is alumni, and alumna is a feminine noun whose plural is alumnae. Coeducational institutions usually use alumni for graduates of both sexes. But those who object to masculine forms in such cases may prefer the phrase alumni and alumnae or the form alumnae/i, which is the choice of many women's colleges that have begun to admit men.
