Yeah.  Welcome to California.  :-/ I saw this the other day and was astounded at their so very obvious greed at trying to get customers that they would sink to this level.  What are they gonna do when the illegals can't pay their bills after racking up the CC.

After my divorce I couldn't get a CC in my name,  from them to save my life.  Only because I was divorced.  It took 3 years before they would ALLOW  me to pay their high interest rates.

That's it.  I'm moving to the Carribean.   ;;D

I’m with you, we don’t want illegal’s to come here but crap like this is aimed at enticing them to jump the fence and get here. My city is over run and every time I drive down the street I look at all the other cars and wonder just how many are uninsured because they are illegal. I pulled into a big Mexican store near my house to get a burrito and was dam near swamped by all the illegal’s thinking since I was in a truck that I wanted to hire them to do labor work. I would rather pay twice the price then put money in an illegal’s pocket.

If you want to live in the great country then do it right dam it and for god’s sake learn the friggen language will you!

I have an idea, they want to work so round them up and put them to work building the new fence along the border, just make sure they work from their side and stay there when it is done.
I wouldn’t even have a problem with paying them to build it.

Aside from this idiocy, credit card companies are beyond evil.

It's they that got together a couple years ago on K Street and practically rewrote the bankruptcy laws to favor them and make it harder for you and me to get out from under credit card debt.

Solution? Be what they call a "black hole" member meaning never carrying a balance.

I believe Tim is talking about ILLEGAL aliens Nani.

The ones... who in my opinion,  are a slap in the face to LEGAL immigrants who come to this country, learn English, take all the tests they are required to take, go through "due process" , raise their right hand in alliegance to this flag and go and live and work and fight for this country.

but I know I'm not Tim, so Tim?  What say you?

and the "they" I was refering to is B of A! I have very good reason going back a long way to like them about as much as I like CH.

so much for pred :'(

Nani, i blew you a kiss as I was flying north of your place on the way home the other day.....hope ya got it :)

I remembered to send one towards Barbara and Jean as I left Dallas. Kind of wierd to travel across the country thinking and caring about people that you have never actually met.

We had a B of A CC. Each month, I call in my payments ON THE DUE DATE and get a confirmation #.......3 days later............without fail, I would get a dunning call. Then, again, at 10 days after that, they would send me a notice of late fees assessed. Even with a conf #, proving the pymt had been made, they worked soo hard to penalize us and line their pockets!
NOONE should have anything to do with B of A !

Of course, that is just one woman's opinion........

The answers…

A. Simply pass the cost of uncollectible/unsecured credit card debt along to responsible customers.

B. If things get too out of hand have your buds in government bail you out with taxpayer dollars.

What a croc - its national disaster that has relentlessly become worse over numerous administrations.

Despite tens of thousands of American casualties and nearly $1 trillion dollars we fight a war on terror around the globe but leave boarders and ports unprotected.

Border patrol officers are jailed for stopping illegal alien drug runners attempting to cross the border with illegal drugs.  The same illegal alien drug runners can then sue the U.S. for hiring border patrol officers who have the nerve to do the job they were hired for.

American’s front hundreds of billions for drug enforcement on the streets while the illegal drugs flow freely across the border and through ports

American’s front hundreds of billions to “homeland security operations” clueless as to who or what comes into this country every day and making no effort to proactively stop dangerous individuals or weapons from entering the country

Uncountable/untraceable illegal aliens entering the country to immediately qualify for benefits taxpayers who are forced to fund these programs can’t qualify for.

Illegals don’t have to learn the language – consumers and taxpayers are forced to pay the cost of producing everything in every possible language to accommodate them.

Aside from the fact that Social Security has been robbed blind to fund general government operations and the trust fund is essentially a trash bin filled with worthless IOU’s from a government that is Trillions in debt.  With previous work history from their country, Illegals qualify for full Social Security benefits after only 18 months in this country but to qualify for the same level of benefits Americans are required to work/pay for 10 years.

If you’re not regularly calling, emailing or writing your elected representatives to put an end to this nation destroying insanity, please start doing so today.  If you’re tired of getting crapped on by obviously deranged people elected to represent you start doing something about.  Without a stronger and more united voice nothing will improve - no matter what political party is in power.

With regard to this particular issue, before reacting everyone should read the fine print.

The applicant must have an IRS Taxpayer code (which is not the same as a Social Security Number) or he or she must have a checking account with Bank of America with no overdrafts and a balance maintained at the amount of the credit line. This, in the business, is considered a Secured Credit Card. So before all of you red blooded Americans go off on how all the illegals are going to steal all your money using this particular tool, realize that there are controls in place as to who can apply and how they may use the product. Many of your own neighbors may have had to use a "Secured Card" to establish their credit after a divorce or a bankruptcy.

How quick we are to quickly point out the velocity of the sky approaching us.
There's a lot of things to worry about in th world, but this ain't one of em'.

LOS ANGELES, Jan. 8 — Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Monday proposed extending health care coverage to all of California’s 36 million residents as part of a sweeping package of changes to the state’s huge, troubled health care system.

Under Mr. Schwarzenegger’s proposal, Medi-Cal would be extended to adults who earn as much as 100 percent above the federal poverty line and to children, regardless of their immigration status

• In Los Angeles, 95 percent of all outstanding warrants for homicide (which total 1,200 to 1,500) target illegal aliens. Up to two-thirds of all fugitive felony warrants (17,000) are for illegal aliens.

•A confidential California Department of Justice study reported in 1995 that 60 percent of the 20,000-strong 18th Street Gang in southern California is illegal; police officers say the proportion is actually much greater. The bloody gang collaborates with the Mexican Mafia, the dominant force in California prisons, on complex drug-distribution schemes, extortion, and drive-by assassinations, and commits an assault or robbery every day in L.A. County. The gang has grown dramatically over the last two decades by recruiting recently arrived youngsters, most of them illegal, from Central America and Mexico.

•The leadership of the Columbia Lil’ Cycos gang, which uses murder and racketeering to control the drug market around L.A.’s MacArthur Park, was about 60 percent illegal in 2002, says former assistant U.S. attorney Luis Li. Francisco Martinez, a Mexican Mafia member and an illegal alien, controlled the gang from prison, while serving time for felonious reentry following deportation.

The new Bank of America program is open to people who lack both a Social Security number and a credit history, as long as they have held a checking account with the bank for three months without an overdraft.

The Charlotte, N.C., banking giant tested the program last year at five branches in Los Angeles, and last week expanded it to 51 branches in Los Angeles County, home to the largest concentration of illegal immigrants in the U.S. The bank hopes to roll out the program nationally later this year.

Typical of the new card's customers is Antonio Sanchez, a Mexican immigrant whose only major asset is a white 1996 Ford Thunderbird, which he drives to the two restaurants where he works each day on opposite sides of Los Angeles. Sanchez, who says he snuck across the border a decade ago, has been a customer of Bank of America's East Hollywood branch for nine years. He has no borrowing history and no Social Security number.

that's why I use Citibank. They post my payments on time, notify me if something doesn't look right on my purchases and are nice as pie and have been since the 80s. Even put my picture on my card (one of me in my 40s - nice picture). But I'm one of those weird people who only carry one credit card and use it for almost everything - only pay one bill a month. Works for me.

So, lets say your name is Danny O'Leary and you've moved here from Ireland. You're on a lapsed temporary working visa working in the computer software support industry. You don't have a SS#. You don't have a credit history here. You've set up a bank account to cash your checks and pay your bills from. Everyone just loves to hear your accent and you've got lots of friends at the pub near your office, where you get to tell great Guiness stories from Dublin where you grew up.

Should he be able to get a credit card since he is a temporary worker without a SS# and is presently of illegal status. Or are we just worried about fence jumpers from Mexico?.......

They just don't care if illegals incur massive debt. It's you or I that will pay for it in the long run.

Racking up Fines

Bank of America's recent run-ins with the authorities:

Wednesday: $26 million settlement with the SEC for failing to safeguard forthcoming analyst reports and issuing fraudulent research. The bank paid $10 million in 2004 for delay tactics during the investigation.

February: $14.7 million settlement with the IRS related to certain bond transactions. The bank also announced a leniency agreement with the U.S. Justice Department for reporting information in an ongoing bond probe.

January: $3 million penalty from NASD for violating money-laundering rules in connection to certain high-risk accounts.

September 2006: $7.5 million settlement in money-laundering probe by the Manhattan District Attorney involving about $2 billion in funds from South America.

settlements and penalties for each month this year so far.

WASHINGTON —  Lawmakers are lashing out at Bank of America Corp. over its new program to offer credit cards to customers without Social Security numbers, saying it creates a dangerous loophole for terrorists and illegal immigrants.

Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., called for a federal investigation of the program on Wednesday, sending Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff a letter requesting a review of the program.

"After September 11, we were told that money was the lifeblood of terrorists, and that we should do everything possible to block their access to financial resources," Tancredo said in a statement. "Today we are hearing a far different message: Bank of America, it's everywhere terrorists want to be."

The program welcomes applicants without a Social Security number and credit history if they have held a checking account with the bank for three months without an overdraft, The Wall Street Journal first reported in Tuesday editions.

Another Republican lawmaker criticized the program, saying it should be stopped to avoid security risks with illegal immigrant members of the program.

"If an individual wants to get a credit card, they can get that in their home country," Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., told FOX News.

"This is something that is of deep concern to me, that Bank of America would choose to market to those that have chosen to break U.S. law to enter this country and then they would give credit to them," Blackburn said.

If Mr. O'Leary wants a credit card while an illegal here in the
States he should get it from a bank in Ireland.  The key word is still ILLEGAL.  I don't care what country he/she is from.  Illegal is still illegal.  I say that as a third generation AMERICAN who has ancestors from Ireland.  I am proud of that heritage, but even PROUDER to be an AMERICAN.

Why is it that a cow is discovered to have mad cow disease and has to be destroyed the Department of Agriculture can tell you the date, the location of birth, the parentage of the cow, every place the cow has been kept, what it has been fed, and any other information about it, but we cannot keep up with people from all over the world coming into our country ILLEGALLY while others who try to do it right are kept out.

I support immigration.  My son in law is from Canada, and we had to jump through all kinds of hoops for him to be able to marry my daughter in this country.  It would have saved us over $10,000 if he would have just done it without the proper documentation and then gotten amnesty.

I don't think I would of brought them all up at the same time (I think 2 were old posts), but it (to me) is still a open topic of discussion. I think if I was to bring this up again, I would come in with new and relevant info.  Just me.... :) That still doesn't make it a need for medication (Hi Nani..... [smiley=wave.gif]). He feels strongly about this, as some of us also do.
