Title: My italian mother Post by artonio7 on Jan 23rd, 2007, 10:58am I was rummaging through some old files and ran across this. The following was a letter I wrote to a friend a couple years ago. The image is one of my paintings. I thought it was amusing and wanted to share it with you guys. It was a little too long to post here so here's a link. My Italian Mother (http://artonio7.com/eat.htm) hope you enjoy. with warm regards, Tony |

Title: Re: My italian mother Post by LeLimey on Jan 23rd, 2007, 11:10am Tony I loved it, you have a gift for writing and I thoroughly enjoyed it :) I have to tell you though, it doesn't sound like there's that big a difference between having an Irish catholic mother and and Italian catholic mother - we should compare scars sometime!! Title: Re: My italian mother Post by Grandma_Sweet_Boy on Jan 23rd, 2007, 4:42pm Tony - that was wonderfully well written. Is there a Mother among us that hasn't tried to "fix" all the evils of the world with food - force fed, if need be! Afraid I'm guilty as charged. Thanks for putting such a big smile on my face today. Title: Re: My italian mother Post by Barry_T_Coles on Jan 23rd, 2007, 6:45pm God that took me back a few years; where I grew up most of the area was Italian market gardeners & all of my mates naturally where Italian & I loved going to their place for the food it was just so different to the bland bully beef the old time Aussies persisted with. My best mate Luigi Cecere’s mother always had to give me the big hug before I went home, she had enormous breasts and delighted in hugging you forever which would damn near suffocate me every time. It’s been a long time since I have spoken or listened to the Italian language but from memory In nome del Padre, del figlio e dello spirito santo!” “Perche` Dio? Perche roughly translates to “In the name of the father the son & the holy spirit, Why God ? Why?. Grazie for the trip down memory lane. Cheers Barry |

Title: Re: My italian mother Post by zwibbs/Scott on Jan 25th, 2007, 5:21am That was great !! My mother was from Genoa---and would pray all day!! It almost appeared like she was talking to herself. My father was German and Welsh and he was a calm guy--good man--My mother was never to be crossed--or else. Every Sunday we would have to dress up to go to church, while my friends were casually dressed...Oh the memories. |
