Title: OUCH Cookbook Fundraiser
Post by catlind on Oct 19th, 2006, 12:40am
Okay folks, here's your chance to do something good for CHers!

I am collecting recipes from everyone here to compile an OUCH cookbook.  The details of the fundraising aspect of this project are not sorted out yet;  As soon as I've had the chance to talk with the powers that be in OUCH, I will let everyone know.  When we have a price and options for download and purchase I'll post it to this thread;  Any suggestions on price, delivery options, fundraising publishers etc. please email me and let me know.

Go to your cookbooks and cupboards, and pick out the recipes you use to comfort your sufferer, treat your supporter, feed the masses on the night that your kids have soccer, music lessons, swim lessons and a school play all within 2 hours and each event is clear across town from the others ;)

Email your recipes to cctech@cox.net

Please submit your recipe with a category:  Appetizer, Slow cookers, desserts, casseroles, breakfast/brunch, Entree, beverages, salads and sauces (and any other category you can think of);  Be sure to include your screen name and at least your real first name, and the country you are from, the state/province you are from and the city if you feel comfortable with that.

Please be sure to clearly mark the measuring quantities:
tsp = teaspoon
Tbsp = tablespoon
8 oz = one cup
1/2 cup, 1/3 cup, 1/4 cup, 1 cup
If the recipe calls for one package, one can, one box etc, please also include the volume measurement for the item, i.e. 1 can evaporated milk, 5 oz. (5 ounces)

For all our members that are not from the US, please convert any volume measurements - I will try to publish the recipes with both measurements, but there's no guarantee.  You can use these online converters: http://www.sciencemadesimple.net/volume.php
or
http://www.onlineconversion.com/cooking.htm

or any that you have as a favo(u)rite site.

Let's make this the biggest cookbook anyone has seen!!

Great idea, Cat!  I really like this!!  Especially these days as I've recently resolved to start actually cooking for myself instead of just making microwave dinners and eating fast food!

I emailed you my first recipe just now.

Good luck with it! :)

Excellent idea.
Give me a day or two to dig up a couple of recipes to send to you. Might send you my Cajun Seafood Pizza recipe, though I posted it here awhile back.

Give me a couple of days though. My basket has become quite full of eggs the past 48 hours and I have much much work to do.

Peace,
Carl

I'll work on this over the weekend.  I have plenty of quick and easy meals I make for the kids when in a rush.  Playing taxi cab for busy teenagers breeds the need for makeshift meals.

What kind of recipes do you need?  Quick and easy or something out of the ordinary?  I can give some that people would consider over the top, but are second nature to others...and no, I'm not giving out the flourless chocolate cake recipe. 8)

Cat -

I think the best way to make it cheap and easy for everyone is if we can burn them on CD> That way there is no print cost as each person can print off which ever ones they want.  And the mailing would be cheap as well.  The only thing is to format them into folders for appitaizers, slow cookers, main entrees, etc...

I know I spelled that all totally wrong but you get the idea. Sorry fighting a HA that followed me to work.  :-[

Tia, the CD is an EXCELLENT idea!  We will have to have some done in print for selling to other people besides the OUCH store and folks here though.  I would like to see this as a vehicle to get awareness out to the communities as well as for all of us to gather recipes.  I have a recipe program here that will format it for cd format easy enough.

As for what kinds of recipes, I want them all;  Give me your over the top and exotic, your standard fare, Grandma's comfort recipes, drinks and finger foods, holiday menus with all the regalia, recipes from around the world, and yes Tom, I want the flourless chocolate cake LOL.

Pegg, I love that saying, breeds the need for makeshift meals!  Those are of course going to be invaluable.  With this affliction, us wimmen folk who don't get CH  ::)need things that our supporters or kids can fix when we are out of commission, and things that are easy to fix when we are supporting someone who is having a hard time.

Anyone who has also tried to get this going in the past, if you have a file of recipes that were submitted please contact me and I'll be sure your work is recognized.

Thanks everyone, lets make this a huge success!

Cat, why not just make the cookbook a .pdf file and folks can download and print it themselves?  There are lots of online stores doing that now, just pay your money and that opens up a link to the file.  Saves on CD and shipping costs that way.

p.s.  send me an email girl - I don't think I have the right addy for you anymore.  I'll get working on your care pkg.  A bit worried about how to keep the curds cold, though....and, honestly, the only REALLY good curds are in Ontario, the ones that make your teeth squeak. The ones we get here are shipped in and by the time we get them, the squeak is gone. :(  I thought about that after I posted and that one item might be difficult to ship, but....cheezies, smarties and swiss chalet dipping sauce can be in the mail (or fedex) by early next week, not a prob.  moxie_miss@hotmail.com

We can do a pdf file too..we've got adobe pro here so we can create one without any problem.  That one is actually easy to prevent copying too.  I'm not real worried about that though.

I think having the different formats will work well.  Set pricing the same way many software companies do;  One price for downloading, a slightly higher price for a CD mailed to you, and a slightly higher one again ifyou require printed documentation.  That way we can cover the costs for supplies for a CD or a published book.

I definitely want to have the published book though, so we can all use it to sell in the community.  That way we get awareness and raise funds.  Not sure about the legalities etc. but I would like to see it with an intro section explaining OUCH and clusters.  I'll have to check with DD and the board about how that works.  I'll also check with her about making it available for all the OUCH's to sell.  This is a collaborative effort, so it should be available to all the OUCH's to sell.

After I talk with DD and have the details I will post them here.

Email on it's way Margi, and yes, I forgot about shipping the cheese curds, I can always pick some up again next time I am back home.

As a side note, this isn't my idea;  There are several people that have contributed to this idea and have tried it in the past.  I'm just taking an already good idea and trying to make it a reality.

Thanks Patti, I"ll make sure I list that as an option as well.  Not sure about any of the details since I haven't had the chance to talk to DD and the board about it yet.

That's a good idea too - we could incorporate that with the pdf file.

The cookbook is a great idea!  I will look through my recipes this weekend and email one or two really good ones to you.  My church recently did this type of a fundraiser and it was very successful.    :D

Great recipe for Roast Beef.

Take one small roast ,
one large roast,
season to taste,
put both in the oven at 350 degrees,
as soon as the small roast is burnt,
the large one should be done Perfect!
Enjoy
