Title: Went to a new neurologist today and....
Post by Little Deb on Dec 5th, 2003, 3:06pm
Oh my GOODNESS!!

She obviously had read my chart before she came in.

Asked some questions about my specific symptoms and took notes.

Asked what meds I have tried and what has worked.

Explained some other meds that are out there, incl. Topamax, Verap, Lithium, Depakote.

Asked if I had O2, and wrote the Rx for it at the same time.  100% for 15 min. with mask.

Wrote for steroid pack and my normal preventative, Procardia, so that I would have them ready when my cycle comes, with refills.

Told me that I should consider DHE treatment since I have so many in a day.  Said if I call right away when the cycle starts, they will bring me into the office and do the DHE IV right there in the treatment room.

Gave me samples of Imitrex inj., and Zomig nasal spray, and wrote Rx's for both.

Filled out and signed my ER form with suggested treatments if I have to go there, O2, magnesium infusion, DHE 1.0 mg., toradol 30-60 mg., or decadron 4 mg. ; but said if it is during the day, to come into the office and they will help me there instead!

Also said I need to repeat the MRI and CAT since the ones I had last year showed an unusually thick bone in my forehead on the affected side, which she said she wanted to rule out Padgett's disease, and some kind of vessel hemorrhage at the base of my skull on the uneffected side.

So the check out girl, scheduled both while I waited, and called for the O2.  Before I got home, Apria Medical called me on my cell phone.  The O2 should be here by
4 p.m.

TOTALLY NOT what I expected!!!! :o :o :o :o :o

Maybe if I am so prepared, the beast won't come back!!

A watched pot never boils, right???

My moon must have been right today.  Like an eclipse though, probably won't have luck like this again for another 35 years!!! ;;D

Wake up Deb, You're Dreaming!!

LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just kidding lady!!!  CONGRATS!!! I am so happy you found a doctor that practices real medicine instead of a revolving door clinic!!!

For years when I went to the doctor with "sinus problems" he would give me a Decadron 10mg injection.  Told me it was a long acting steroid.  Funny thing was....I can remember saying a time or two that I felt better within 30 minutes of leaving his office.

Soooooo Are you going to share the name of this Doc with the rest of us??  I may have to move!  Sounds like you picked a real good'un!!

Happy as Hell For You,

Donna D

I agree. My primary is a chick. Best doc I've ever had.  She listens without interrupting.

My Neuro is a waste of space.

Thanks everybody for the "way to go"'s.  I am feeling kinda bummed now.  I wanted to share the good news with my husband, so I called him.  He could've said something like "oh that's great, you'll have it when you need it" or " sounds like you found a great dr"  or "it's great that you have the O2 for when you have already taken your triptan limit".

But instead he said "so you're gonna have that oxygen tank just sitting around and you might not get another headache for 3 years??"

Would that bum anyone else out?  Am I just being too sensitive??

PMSing....Little Deb :(

FUCK NO you ain't being too sensitive

Sorry, but your support man SHOULD be thrilled as we are.

You have us dear, and you've landed quite a gold mine in that there doctor.

Don't let his negativity get you down..........you've had a big success today in the fact of FINDING a doctor that CAN help you.

Don't let him get you down, keep flying on that cloud nine.

And, hopefully, tell hubby.....NO........the tank might have to sit around for 5 years or better!!!!

LOL   wouldn't THAT be wonderful!!

Congratulations Little Deb on your big step today!!!

hugs,
EDNA

Deb,

It is like saying "I won the lottery!!"

and he replies "Oh, great, how many MORE tax forms do I have to fill out now!!"

Sometimes they just "don't get it"!  Men....

Stay Happy!!  You deserve it!!

Congratulations Deb!

Really great to have a physician who understands cluster headaches and is willing to treat you properly. My primary care physician is a woman and so is the Neurologist.  They're both number one in my book.

Hit him with a baseball bat. They would keep the O2 tank for evidence.
Preferably his own baseball bat.

OMG DEB!!!!!!
What your husband said could have come straight out of my husband's mouth.  Along with, "you know...you can't have that tank by the bed, cause we smoke in the bedroom"...I'm like DUH... :)

Congrats on the doc visit, don't get down about what hubby said.  He's a supporter...somehow, in his own way, just like mine is.

Did you list your doc as one of the GOOD ONES on the ouch site??

Glad you are prepared :)

I knew I screwed up when I left the Carolina's for Yankee country!  (I can't complain about my Neuro though)

As for your hubby, he has no comprehension of what you got when you saw the Doc.  He has no clue, cause he has never had a CH.  Pity the man, don't get mad.

Happy for you!

Next time, feel free to choose one of the following retorts:

1. Well, I've been sitting here the last three years and you haven't turned ME on either....but here I sit, ready when you feel you need me.  :P

2. I've allowed YOU to sit here the last three years and I haven't needed YOU either.  >:(

3. You may come to appreciate the tank's readiness in an emergency my dear. The next time you make an insensitive statement, and I ring your neck, you'll be begging for a shot of 02.  :-*

If it were me (and I'm a total bitch - with a headache and without) I'd park that tank in the middle of the living room and use it for a conversation piece. Of course I'm a little lazy - don't like to dig anything out of the closet. If he says anything - SMILE politely and don't say anything back -- they HATE that.

Or starch his "underware"! He deserves it!!!

Great news about your neuro. Keep her.

Hugs BD

Congrats on the awsome Dr.!

Sorry about your hubby, maybe he will see in time that the O2 is a blessing when it gives you so much relief and he will change his tune.

Hang in there, girl!

Thanks everyone.  I needed the laughs.  I agree with Nancy...I liked #1 the best, although they were all appropriate!!

And yes, Nancy, I can't wait for you to invade my house.  You do have your work cut out on this one.  Don't think he will be as easy as Buddy!

Can't wait to see who all will be coming.

Going to the OUCH site now to add the doc.  Thanks for the tip.
